Palin says she didn't hesitate to take VP slot

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/POLITICS/09/11/palin.abc/art.palinalaska.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Sarah Palin arrived back in Alaska on Wednesday night."](CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she "didn't blink" when Sen. John McCain offered her the Republican vice presidential nomination and is confident she could handle the duties of president if necessary.

"I answered him yes, because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink," Palin told ABC News in her first interview since accepting the No. 2 slot on the GOP ticket.

"You have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on - reform of this country and victory in the war. You can't blink. So I didn't blink then even when asked to run as his running mate," she said.

Listening to Gov. Sarah Palin's interview today felt more as she was going for a job interview. She is lacking confidence and experience. When she was asked if she is ready for VP position sounded like she was guestioning herself if she is really good enough for this country. It seems as she memorized answers to most asked questions by the media. Her view at the world is very narrow. Her answer/solution to any problem is War. On McCain's side it is was a very good strategy to select a woman. All attention is focused on Palin, and she is doing all the PR, while McCain patiently waiting for the grand finale. It is like going and selecting a book in the store by its cover and not the content.

Typical CNN, Palin discusses her views on foreign policy...you know actual issues. Instead of posting those points, you post this fan fare crap. Typical. When did CNN become no better than people or us magazine???

McCain has got to have regrets, especially since his own party are "ditching" Palin as quickly as they can. (To save their own hiney, I might add). He's got to be out of his mind...if course he is 73 years old. But, not to worry, "True Greit Sarah" will be waiting in the wings!

  11. Palin is not ready

On the interview with Charlie Gibson-I think I just saw George Bush in a dress! Wow, we sure need another moron like Bush who can only speak scripted lines and doesn't think before he acts....she is a disaster and a scary nut job. Good Lord – is this all the Republicans could come up with? For all of you saying CNN is just posting the negative comments, have you stopped to consider it is because all the comments on her performance are negative. Wake up! She is obviously unqualified and dangerously unaware of reality.

Did anyone notice how the interview was edited??? Looks like someone edited out Sarah Palin putting her foot in her mouth. This is the same thing CBS did in an interview with John McCain.

    God Help America!

McCain/Palin will run this country to the ground. Gibson did a great job on the female crusader.

I am a Democrat. Black and female. To me John McCain had a good agenda-excluding his stand on the War and Palin. His selection on VP is an insult to the women who could have really brought something to the table. The mudslinging really needs to stop. That does not go over well with the people who are truly concerned with getting this country back on its feet. All politicians have a greater downside then most people, We as Americans should only be interested in electing Politicians who put this country and the people first. Not their political agenda, not their personal beefs, nor their prejudices or their underhanded demeaning tactics. For real for real. ENOUGH.

That is the problem. She did not blink when she should have. She is woefully unprepared to be a vice president or president. She does not understand how complicated some of the foreign policy issues are. It is very obvious by her answers to Gibsons questions and he was VERY polite and very easy on her. Frankly, I felt a bit sorry for her, she was out of her element. Clearly she was coached to repeat pat answers and for that she did ok (about as good as my grandmother would do) but she doesn't have the necessary depth of knowledge. Her answers were shallow and McCain should not have chosen her.
And listen Jeremy, there is no such thing as a Democrat for McCain/Palin so please don't make up things. No true Democrat with real Democratic values would ever vote for such a far right wing agenda. Be real.

What a pathetic display of ignorance about history Miss "ready to be VP" has just shown. I guess there weren't any shots fired in Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, or any of Central and Latin America during the Cold War. McCain will not be able to protect her from her own lack of knowledge about foreign affairs and simple world history. War with Russia over Georgia???? One 72 year old mans heartbeat from the presidency, unbelievable. Maybe if she hadn't taken 6 years and 5 schools to get her degree she would have learned something in college.

Did anyone watch McCain's running mate's interview with Charlie Gibson? I understand the USA to be the greatest country in the world. The press of this great country should not be bullied by these thugs. The lady knows nothing. We now know why they don't want her to go on the record. The woman is not ready to lead this country. Americans, please wake up. At least if you lack experience but can show that you have the prescience necessary to understand the issues, that's different. But if you lack experience and all you have is one speech that has been regurgitated since the republican convention, then I don't think the American people should vote for the ticket.

I am an ardent Obama supporter. I know that McCain invited a lot of abuse with a VP choice that makes little sense. The Obama camp has done an outstanding job of staying out of the business of attacking personalities. I am afraid, however, that the McCain camp is looking at these blogs and attributing crude sexist personallity remarks and attributing them to the next president of the United States.

Palin doesn't know what "the Bush doctrine" is. She supports NATO membership for Georgia and Ukraine without giving any indication that she's aware of the complexities of such an endorsement. She claims that Russias invasion of Georgia was "unprovoked". Her application for VP is ludicrous. It would be like me (lit professor, mid-40s, in questionable shape) applying for a job as fighter pilot.
