Investigator wants subpoena for Palin's husband

Todd Palin sat with his wife, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, during the final night of the Republican convention.

Todd Palin sat with his wife, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, during the final night of the Republican convention.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - A special counsel has asked Alaskan lawmakers to subpoena Gov. Sarah Palin's husband and a dozen aides as part of the investigation into Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner.

Todd Palin has been a "principal critic" of his wife's ex-brother-in-law, State Trooper Mike Wooten, and had "many contacts" with Department of Public Safety officials about his status, said Steve Branchflower, the former prosecutor hired by the state Legislature to investigate the firing.

Sarah Palin, now the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire Wooten - and that Monegan was canned when he refused.

Palin has said she fired Monegan over budget issues and denies any wrongdoing.

Relax folks - the Bush/Cheney/Rove/McCain crew will take care of the whole thing – it's another distraction from them discussing our issues as a nation.

It's clear that this woman has and will continue to use her political power to dispense with everyone that doesn't agree with her policies! I would like to know why the press isn't expounding on her attempted firing of the Librarian that refused to ban all of the books that Palin instructed her to remove. The list is quite large! All of these facts are in the official minutes of the Wasilla Library Board but yet the media is silent. The American people have a right to know who McCain is trying to push into one of the most powerful political positions in the country! All he is doing is more of the same ole', same ole'.............misleading the people! It's also obvious that the only reason he choose her was in an attempt to pick up the disgruntled 'Hillary" voters. And it's also obvious that she wasn't fully vetted!

I can't believe the media is allowing LIES to be spread in politics, what happened to journalism. Keeping them honest, c'mon guys you jump at the dumbest paparazzi things, but devote maybe 1 minute inbetween the next big paparazzi find to "keeping them honest." You should be all over this mockery of a presidential race, when someone is using television to spread lies, in this day and age how can you allow them to get away with it. This is unbelievable.

And of course this is not in the least politically motivated.
No it wasn't. This probe was started before she was selected by McCain and approved unanomously by a bi-partisan committee.

Would someone please tell me what the McCain campaign is all about? How do they intend to solve the problems we face? I don't think they can solve problems simply by being a "cult of personality", which is what their entire campaign has devolved into.

At the top of the McCain ticket we have a candidate who knows little about economic issues, energy policy, voted with Bush 90+% of the time and has aligned his policies very closely with the current Administration – and we all know how well those policies have worked. Hey, but he was a POW and is really, really patriotic.

The VP candidate knows even less about economic issues, nothing about foreign policy and was the part-time mayor or a tiny town just two years ago and apparently an absentee Governor (reference "where's Sarah" buttons in the AK state capital) of a very small state for 20 months.. and to top it off she has some very extreme views on abortion, guns, birth control, global warming, and several other topics – but she can cook a mean moose stew.

Why am I beginning to feel like Alice in Wonderland?

It seems like its the same old story from a politician. They appear to have done something wrong. They run the clock hoping that the story goes away. Wouldn't it be a relief that Sarah Palin the "government reformer" would reform government and ask for the investigation to clear her name?
However this will never happen, she is a politician.

This country is exhausting every avenue it can to not elect a black man and before its over it will have been a public lynching. That is the plain truth in all this. If he had chosen Hillary it still would be the sameā€¦.the Right is out to get the people of color.

You Obama lovers soooooooo happy if you think to found anything bad on Palin's family. What about Obama- his Rezko and other, his $ 300000 deal. Can you make deal like that? Obama say no to Hillary. Now he pay for it.

Maybe he had many contacts with the department of public safety because this guy was threatening members of his family. I'd do the same thing – I'd be calling every day! You guys need to get a grip and ask yourself how you'd feel if say Barak Obama had a brother who was a police officer and was threatening those cute Obama Kids – would you complain if Michelle repeatedly called the department of public safety to lodge complaints?

Object to Palin for her views, lack thereof, experience, lack thereof, whatever you want, but this is so clearly a foolish thing to get all bent out of shape about!

THis tropper tasered a member of the Palin family, which of you can blame them for calling to complain about him?!

Boy listen to you democrats cry. What's the matter, a good candidate scare you? Just let the investigation play out and you will find there is a big todo about nothing. I love this lynching that all of you want to do. I am so glad that someone that can stand up to Charlie Gibson, obviously one of the most biased reporters around, and make hip look stupid which is what he was trying to do to her. Go Sarah! We are all behind you!!!!

It's a bird, it's a plane, wait it's Sarah Palin and John McCain. This is a test, this is only a test had this been about REAL Change, we would hear what the repubs plan to do about the economy, healthcare, rising gas prices and our national security. McCain and Palin both represent another Bush term, except one is in a skirt. Nice Try! and by way, you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig!

So now it starts. I have to say that I was really disappointed in her interview with ABC... she's certainly not qualified, nor well traveled enough to understand foriegn issues. McCain did not vett this person as well as he could have and I believe he was hoping to sneak her under the time wire without detection until after the election ??? Truely a lack of presidential judgment. We have just gone through 8 yrs of that !!!! Bet that this one will not get posted either !!!

As a Detroiter with our Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick and his police corruption scandle, I hope the journalists get to the bottom of this story BEFORE the election so I can make an informed decision. Political insider connections have turned me off to politics for a long time and I am hoping this is not more of the same.

If they won't co-operate, if they won't turn over items voluntarily...then they are guilty of something. I don't care what, if they fight, then that means they are corrupt. If they don't, and willingly give all the information as requested, then they can come off looking all shiney.

So Palin can say 'nothing to hide, I'm perfect, here are ALL of the records you want...I'm volunteering them"....or she can say 'legally what do I have to give them? Can I avoid giving them some of this, because I have a BUNCH of felonies to hide."

Innocent or Guilty is a very easy conclusion to draw based on the willingness to co-operate of the defendant.
