McCain stem cell ad doesn't mention Palin's opposition

Palin's position on stem cell research is at odds with McCain's.

Palin's position on stem cell research is at odds with McCain's.

WASILLA, Alaska (CNN) - Sarah Palin is putting her opposition to stem cell research on the back burner for the sake of the Republican ticket.

John McCain's campaign released a radio ad Friday that calls he and Palin "mavericks" who will, if elected, back stem cell research "to help free families from the fear and devastation of illness."

"Medical breakthroughs to help you get better, faster," says the radio ad, which according to the campaign is running in key battleground states. "Change is coming. McCain, Palin and congressional allies. The leadership and experience to really change Washington and improve your health."

McCain and his campaign have said the senator supports research that uses stem cells, including the embyronic variety. But Palin does not.

Questioned about the issue in a debate during the 2006 race for Alaska governor, Palin invoked her "pro-life position" and referred to "that centeredness that I have of respecting life and the potential of every human life."

She added that she could not support research that "would ultimately end in destruction of life."

Palin's spokesperson Maria Comella confirmed those remarks constitute Palin's position, but said that "a McCain-Palin administration will be pro-stem cell research."

Even though Palin opposes it?

"Yep," Comella said.

What a wonderful country we live in. We have a honored POW who able to campaign for the highest office in the nation and distort the truth and in some cases make blatant lies and get away with it. And then he says he is a reformer. So we have a POW reformer who lies. What a wonderful country.

I have been following this interview with Charles Gibson with D
Sarah Palin. And I did hear a lot of the "Male " media say it wasn't a fair interview. As Bill OReily pointed out some of the questions even the media couldnt answer . "Do you approve of the Bush doctorate?" The truth is there was no one doctorate so the answer could be anything you want. Yet the women on cnn have discrited Palin for her answer. Palin look very collected to me and look Gibson in the eye on her answers. Yet cnn claims she was unsure and nervious. Give me a break. I would like to know why this type of questions wasn't asked of Clinton,Obama and McClain. As for her religion, whats the big deal? Everyone seems to except Obamas when it was clearly anti american. And what about his friends all anti american. What do you really know about him? I think the women of cnn are showing the green eyed cat. And if you want to talk issues. maybe you should look at Obama he has changed his mind on every issue he campaigned on. Maybe thats the change he is talking about. As for being a weak canadidate no one is weaker then Obama. The .dmc gave him the election he didn't win it. And all the campaigning against Hillary calling her same old Politics. Well now he's begging for the Clintons to help him , he cant win the election on his own. And wasn't he the one that complained that he thought it was unfair both of the Clintons were campaiging against him. Now look what he's doing. And the lip stick issue was over the hill. He knew that the public would not know that "a pig with lipstick is still a pig" is a political saying. and the supporters reaction shows that they all thought he was talking abut Pailin. But he got off the hook calling it phony politics. This is what he does he will discredit someone then say i didnt meant that, when You would have to be a fool to beleive him. He has done athis ato many times along with the race card he keeps trying to play. I am an independent. But I can tell you this I will never vote for someone that acks like Obama. I'll take McCain anyday at least I know who he is, And why dosn't the meda check out Obamas earmarks and how many thimes he voted for Bush policies. It was more then mcCain did. Did any of you dummies look that up?

Once again... JOHN MCCAIN IS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT, NOT SARAH PALIN! As far as Sarah Palin goes... she DOES welcome stem cell research (as she stated in the interview with Charles Gibson). She just doesn't agree with 'creating life' to destroy it, like embryonic does. She made it pretty clear she welcomes other forms of stem cell research, such as skin, which is already promising major results. Also from the placenta, another major break through.

Also, the liberals still have not learned their lesson... the meaningless attacks are not working!

Have you learned nothing CNN, even after FOX News called you on your 'lies' when reporting the news?

  5. Tired of LIES

I am just SICK of this man lying and misleading people everyday. His side kick is just as bad. What a pair!

Sarah Palin is not qualified to answer that red phone at 3am when McCain dies.

Seriously, how can people be blinded enough to vote for Sarah Palin. On her first interview (the ABC one) she was already talking about war with Russia??? ...While we already have enough trouble in Iraq? That's not tough talk, that's unexperience and stupidity.

    September 12, 2008 09:52 pm at 9:52 pm |

Sounds just like her new UNCLE'S ROVE & McCain.

Trying are trying teach her to be just G.W. Bush with lip stick.

They are starting early on this her... Because they might lose this one so they are thikning they better pull out all the stops.

You know when she answered a question about her "insight into Russian actions" with: "you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska", I thought I was listening to a child in Kindergarten or something. It's sad but we learned you can't trust them it only took eight years for some.

  8. No Hillary = No Obama

You know what. John McCain really is his own person. He outsmarted Mr. Harvard by his Palin pick and now Obama is lagging. I think McCain and Palin do not agree on a variety of issues and stem cell is one. Palin was the winning ticket – but McCain runs the show. I think people will be very surpised and pleased by the decisions he will make while President. He will leave an everlasting legacy that betters this country. Wait and see.

If Obama had selected Hillary Clinton they would have selected a MAN and attacked Hillary like there was no tomorrow. Get a clue America. The McCain camp is playing you people like a bunch of naive idiots.

This is change? Mrs. Palin's position sounds like the same as the conservative right's position on stem cell research. I haven't seen even one bit of evidence to show that she's any different than the majority of the right wing of the GOP. That's probably why the McCain camp won't let her be interviewed by SERIOUS reporters–people will see right through her thin veneer in two seconds. Come on, Senator McCain, let her tell the American people where she really stands on the issues. You can't keep her hidden forever, you know!

The polls are rigged. Who are the pollsters calling? Majority Republicans? There is nothing honest and decent in this world. Sen. Obama is trying to restore integrity and transparency back to governing, but it's obvious that the people would much rather believe lies than the truth. It's so clear that McCain lied – but he just won't admit it – no matter what. Why is America trusting someone who hides the truth? Haven't you had ENOUGH of people being sneaky and distrustful?

John McCain and Sarah Palin will put country first.

Obama and his handlers will suck the very life out of this great country.
He will promise you everything and give you nothing.

Want to know the kind of people who support obama.............. then just read their disgraceful comments when they post. These people have no respect for anything or anyone. They all share the idea that obama is going to somehow adopt them.

The greatest country in the world and an infrastructure which falls apart. Sure. beleive that old man.

When I see these micky mouse levis at the cost lines, it makes me laugh and cry.

Obama at least wants to divert money from the war to start fixing american infrastructures. McCain und Sarah Palin could care less if a few thousand lives are lost, as long as their is money left for lobbyists.
Change from Bush to McCain, thats the big slogan right know. Oh now he carefully voids talking what his real plans are, because he hasnt got any yet, which is with republicans typical, from year to year the same bs . So he distrats voters with lipsstick talk, his experience (he hes very little) Palins profit on a Jet and so forth.

He wont do on levis anything worth while.

Europeans are building shoreline levis for more than 500 years, when they offered advise, they were told, we know how to fix them, your ideas cost too much money. But there is always money for wars.
Thats what Bush and McSame think of you people. Trust me and I tell you what we do after the election.
McCain wants a reward of Bush's 8 years of failed policies.

Anyone voting for McCain really has to feelings for this country.

CNN should point those facts out, rather then chasing all day after Sarah Palin to get more of lies and lipstick talk out in the news.

Wake up america and taky your country back.

Vote Obama / Biden in november.

This from the guy who said he doesn't like to exaggerate? So much for that. I can tell you, Palin won't be for stem cell research (then again, he probably will be sending her to funerals and such; anyone who thinks she'll be a powerful VP is gravely mistaken; McCain knows she's not qualified and will not put her within 50 feet of an important decision).

    September 12, 2008 10:03 pm at 10:03 pm |

Forget the fact that she differs with McCain on anything (i.e. drilling in ANWAR, stem cell research, abortion in cases of rape or incest). This is what the Republicans wants. A pretty face to offset those "disaffected" Clinton voters. I'm just shocked that the American people are really falling for John McCain's "Tomfoolery." How absurd!
