Obama says some ads against him “fabricated” and “lies”

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Obama is sharpening attacks against McCain and the GOP."]
DOVER, New Hampshire (CNN) –
On the first day of what his campaign called the “final stretch,” Barack Obama hammered at John McCain, and repeatedly linked him to President Bush’s policies.

“We can’t afford four more years of what George Bush and John McCain consider progress,” he said at a town hall not far from Portsmouth. “We can’t afford another President who is so out of touch that they think the economy is strong right now and promises to the exact same thing we’ve been doing for the last eight years.”

The Obama campaign seized on a comment from Thursday night’s forum in New York where McCain said it was “easy” for him to become “somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have” while in Washington.

“Maybe from where he and George Bush sit, maybe things do look fundamentally sound,” Obama said after repeating McCain’s quote and eliciting some groans from the audience. “Maybe they don’t see what’s taking place. Maybe they’re that out of touch. But I do see what’s going on and so do you.”

Even as Obama goes on the offensive against McCain in these final weeks, he has spent time defending his own campaign, reassuring voters that the recent “lipstick” story, spike in enthusiasm for the GOP ticket, and serious up-tick in negative ads does not mean his presidential effort is off-message or floundering.

At a New Hampshire town hall Friday, a man stood and asked Obama, “when and how” was he “going to start fighting back against attack ads and smear campaigns.”

“I know there are a lot of Democrats, and some Independents and some Republicans who really want change who start getting nervous because they’ve seen this movie before every four years. Right? You have ads that are being just fabricated, they’re just made up. And lies – that’s the word I was looking for,” said Obama.

“Here’s what I can guarantee you: that we are going to be hitting back hard – we have been hitting back hard but …I’m not going to start making up lies about John McCain … we’re going to make sure that anything that is out there that we are immediately responding to. But this election is too important, it’s too serious to be playing silly games.”

The Democratic nominee also pledged that families making less than $250,000 a year would not see any type of tax increase should he become president.

Did anyone notice that when Sarah palin stated that there would be new leadership in the white house if Mccain was elected (abc Interview) she actually had the nerve to wink at the reporter. Talk about liars, body language tells alot and she sure left it known that it would be more of bush politics with that wink.

Take color and gender out of it... you still have a senator with less than two year's experience and a senator with 30 years experience... who is more qualified? You are the employer and you are conducting a job interview... get serious, America! All this other stuff is just a bunch of noise...

John McCain has his only options are to attack Obama, LIE or hide behind the skirts of his wife (does she have a job? i mean God i am sick of seeing her always with him. at least Michelle has a life. was Cindy invited to ground zero yesterday or is she just glued to John's hip...i guess she knows that he is capable of cheating so may be she is just watching her investment) and his wacko cook VP pick...who is hiding from the real media, under investigation, and keeps regurgitating the same OLD Bush speech...
poor poor John, what did Bush do to you in 2000? you used to be a good man, now McCain would rather loose his integrity than loose an election.

Sen McCain, you know your campaign is engaging in bullying tactics and lies against Sen Obama. Just to keep the media from discussing your ideas, it seems.

Is this how you intend to carry out "reform?" Do you people plan on running negative, dirty-campaign ads against Big Oil, Russia, France, Iran, Big Business, entrenched road contractors, the Senate, the Congress....????

You are not showing yours or the Republicans' best side. I hope.

FINALLY! McCain's lying ways are being acknowledged and counterattacked with truth.
Everyone goes around saying McCain is a "man of character...." Blah, blah, blah. Maybe he was at one time, but NO LONGER. His ads are lower than low. Even Jonathan Alter of Newsweek has said he's known McCain for 20 years but has lost all respect for him because of the tenor of his campaign and the gutter-politics ads. He specifically cited the ad from McCain that said Obama wanted to start teaching sex education in kindergarten. What an awful distortion. What flat-out LIE. How desperate does that make him??
And why isn't everybody noting how much of a lightweight Sarah Palin appeared to be during her interview with Charlie Gibson. She's not ready! She knows so little about world affairs. And 50 plus days isn't going to give time to figure it out. Maybe in 50 years.
McCain should be retiring, not running for the highest office in the land. He no longer has the respect to be commander in chief.

John McCain has been in Washinfton for 26 yrs, and all he has gotten us is the highest gas prices in history, record home foreclosures, an illegal war,an unknown VP selection and no idea as to how to get us out. And he has not been a POW for the past 26 yrs, so he cannot hide behind that. So the only other reason is bad judgement, period. You can believe what he says if you like but the evidence is right there in your face. McCain is hiding in plain sight. He disrespects America by telling us we cannot talk to Gov. Palin until he says so but this is OUR potential VP. WHAT HE IS SAYING IS SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP and wait until I say you can talk. This is exactly how he is going to run his WH. It is amazing that people can be so gullible. You have all of the facts in front of you and still you are blinded by one thing and one thing only May God help us.

I am a democrat, but i just don't trust Obama. When running against Hllary he was against everything she stood for saying she was old government. Then he turns around and picks Biden as his vp. I don't get it. I don't believe anything that Obama says anymore. He is a flip flopper. He says one thing and does another. I don't like our choices of nominees. May God help us all. Now I hear they are going to allow 10,000 of Iraqies into our country starting in October. All this is really scary and I see our country being put in dangers way. I don't understand why our government (republicans and democrats) won't protect the citizens of America. We don't have enough jobs now, we can't afford our homes, can't afford insurance, we are giving up everything we have worked so hard to get. We are worried about sending our children to college. We are worried what our country will be like for our grandchildren. All our government worries about are the people of other countries. They get more foreign aid (food, housing, medical care, etc.) Americans can't afford none of these and our government doesn't care if we lose it all or not. They chose to turn their head when it comes to taking caring of America. Are the Iraqies that come into our country, are they the ones that hate us, do they want to kill us. Our lives are so uncertain, are we going to be able to keep ourselves safe. If Washington doesn't stop with this cramp they are doing to us, we will not be safe in our own homes. God Bless America. Everyone needs to pray that God helps guide our politicians.

This election has shown me its ok for blacks to die for their country, help build the country, pay taxes, etc.....but alot of people do not consider us just as qualified to be the President of the USA.

People would rather have 4 more years of a bad economy, Wars, housing slumps, etc.....then to vote for Obama. When I travel from country to country...alot of people from other countries consider Americans arrogant and hypocritcal. We tell other countries about democracy and equal rights while we try to deny them to individuals here.

This election has the ability to change that view. Those who wont vote for Obama because of his polices (no problem). Those that are trying to make up any little thing just because he is are destroying our country. Grow up

Most are total lies and the others are at best half-truths. has shown them to be lies and halftruths. It is not just Obama saying they are lies – IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE LIES! John McCain has run a despicable campaign so far and with the Bush attack dogs now running his campaign it is only going to get worse.
