(CNN) -Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain, criticized the media at a weekend fundraiser, telling supporters that the hosts of The View “picked our bones clean.”

"In spite of what you see …in the newspapers, and on shows like The View - I don't know if any of you saw The View yesterday, they picked our bones clean - in spite of what you see, that's not what the American people are saying and what they are believing," said McCain, in a recording obtained by ABC News. "They are now seeing a clear difference with these candidates, and they are seeing who is going to make the best president, and that's why we're pulling ahead."

John McCain had a tough exchange with the hosts of The View during a recent appearance, during which he was pressed on the credentials of running mate Sarah Palin, claims in his campaign ads that co-host Joy Behar called “lies,” and how many houses he and his wife own.

Ever thought it might be because of your actions of 100% negative campaign?

McCain's campaign made a mistake but is not ready to face the consequences. To me this sounds exactly like Bush... not willing to accept the mistake.

Every thing has a limit.. in this case... 8 is Enough!

Is there no limit to self-indulgence? Can we sensationalize this drama any more?

The "View" did the job of what the Main Stream Media will not do. They ask questions that a lot of people are wanting to ask. They did nothing wrong, I just wished they had of lor McCain explain, Why his ads are not lies????? I would have loved to hear that from him.

Well, Cindy the pillionaire, whoops, I mean millionaire is mad because someone who asked her husband tough questions? Boo hoo! I realize that due to your extensive botox, it's difficult to judge your emotions but seriously, Cindy Lou, if your big strong flyboy can't take tough questions from a daytime talk show, remind us again why he's a viable candidate?

Boo hoo. McCain got asked the tough questions that the public is asking. It's about time that someone asked him about the distortions and lies in his ads, and it's about time someone didn't let him off the hook when he didn't answer the question. THANK YOU, THE VIEW. I wish that more interviewers weren't such pushovers and demanded that politicians answer the questions that are asked, rather than let them avoid the question like they do more than half the time.

In spite of what Cindy "Barbie Doll" says, this IS what the public is talking about. We are TIRED of these ads distorting the truth and taking sound bites out of context. You're just trying to make a smoke screen that hides the facts and issues. The truth is that McCain/Palin will be no different from the current administration on the economy, health care, energy, housing, national security, gas/oil prices, etc.

And by the way, Palin IS NOT the most qualified person in the United States on energy. She may know quite a bit about oil, but there needs to be more to our evergy policy (wind, solar, natural gas) than oil.

I was appalled that Whoopi asked about slavery. She not only showed who she supported but she showed her ignorance of politics and government.

As most intelligent people know, the President of the United States could not re-instate slavery even if he wanted. And to ask such a question, implying that McCain's pro life stance somehow makes him pro-slavery, was completely inappropriate.

If anyone on "The View" thought McCain's constitutional stance on abortion rights implied that Constitutional amendments should not be honored, they could have asked about women's voting rights. It would have been a much more appropriate way to voice their objections, and a more lively, and appropriate, discussion on "The View".

Or better yet, discuss the 22nd amendment – term limits for Presidents -and discuss whether Bill Clinton would beat Obama and McCain if he could run.

Whoopi's behavior was divisive a will set back race relations in this country by decades. Obama propogates and encourages this behavior.

I am a Democrat and I will vote for McCain in part because of this very behavior.

We want our politicians to be held accountable for the smear ads they place on our TV screens! Kudos to The View for asking the questions that we've been wanting to ask but have no opportunity to do so!!!! Let's talk about the failing economy, world view of our country and how to improve that, pulling out of Iraq, and so on. You talk and talk, but there is NO SUBSTANCE!

That is exactly what the American people are seeing and thinking. No one picked there bones clean. He was asked to explain a view that most people recognize as a smoke screen.

The only people who buy the lies are those that are too scared there lives will change to see the truth. They will be the first ones to complain about the fallout of four more years of the republicans.

    What an ugly women.

Boy, she looks like a witch. The women of "The View" are better than MSM. That's what MSM should be doing to all the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates. Is she mad because her husband admitted that his ads were riddled with lies?

I was apalled at the treatment of the McCain's by The View. This is partisanship at its worst. Their behavior and outright disrespect for the officials of our government is what is bringing this government down. Its fine to question, its fine to challenge, its fine to debate, but not with this kind of downright hostility, disrespect, and derision. This doesn't teach our children to respect our government. We are tearing ourselves and our country down from within. And we need to stop.
