Palin makes first foray into fundraising for McCain

CANTON, Ohio (CNN) - In her first fundraising effort on behalf of the McCain campaign, Sarah Palin raised just under $1 million, according to the host of the event.

Because McCain has accepted public financing for his campaign, the money raised will go towards the McCain-Palin Ohio Victory fund, which is comprised of the Ohio state GOP, the Republican National Committee, and the McCain-Palin Compliance Fund, which solicits private donations to help the campaign defray certain costs.

“Senator McCain will be stunned and he’ll be appreciative also,” Palin said of the money raised.
Palin spoke for about 20 minutes at Brookside Country Club in Canton (just down the road, a solitary protester held up a sign reading “Country Club First,” a mock-up of the campaign’s slogan “Country First.”)

The Alaska governor thanked Ohio’s convention delegation for helping her through her speech in St. Paul when, she said, her teleprompter malfunctioned.

“In the convention I had you to thank afterwards, because there Ohio was right out in front, in front of me,” she said. “And you know, I walked out there on stage and we started the teleprompter going in front of me. Teleprompter got messed up, and I wasn’t able to follow it. So, I decided, I’m just going to talk to the people in front me. And it was Ohio.”

Palin spent most of her speech praising McCain as she does on the stump, but she did take a moment to address the financial turmoil on Wall Street.

“We’re going to protect the life savings of everyday Americans,” she promised, adding: “John McCain and I are going to reform the way Wall Street does business.”

Palin’s husband Todd, who has been a quiet fixture on the campaign trail thus far, did some cheerleading for a few seconds at the end of the event

“Thanks for supporting this ticket, it’s the right ticket to support,” he said. “You’ve got a beautiful state. Go Buckeyes.”

I agree with you about the REPUBLICAN Glenn Beck on CNN.

channel BEFORE he utters one word. He is a complete idiot!!!!
who likes to think his opinion is the only one that counts. Glenn
Beck talks DOWN to his listeners as if they were the biggest
    fools of all time.

I have made the promise to myself that i would vote for all the troops that are not home who have done tours of duty that they did not sign up for and yet they do their best in protecting us. I am going to cast my vote for all the women who want to be able to make the decision to have the choice of having a child or not. I am going to cast my vote for all the people who have lost their homes, their health insurance, their jobs and maybe things will get better for them and also my family because I want my children and grandchildren to have a much better life than I have .

  6. Obamas Toast

The more hate and vile garbage the Obamabots spew, the more the average American is going to support her & McCain. The only real liar here is Obama.

Amazing all the negativity and name calling from the Obamabots. Is this the new politics that Obama is ushering in? Is this the change we can believe in? Sounds more like Bush to me. Sounds like Obama would be 4 more years of Bush with on the job training.

PUMA - Vote for experience you can believe in. Vote McCain

The media has already debunked the 'teleprompter broke' story as FALSE. Seriously, is there anything the McCain\Palin ticket doesn't lie about?

And I thought Obama was the county club elitist? That's what the McCain campaign was saying...

And I thought that John McCain was going to run an honest campaign...

And I thought John McCain would rather loose an election...

And I thought that McCain supported our troops...

I thought Palin was against Pork barrel spending...

Republicans must be playing opposite day again!

Since when does the Vice-Presidential candidate have an agenda?
Palin today told us what hers would be. I thought only the President set the agenda. Are people voting for her or McCain? Is he letting her set policy now?

The Repubs have controlled the Big House for the last 8 yrs; they've controlled congress for 12 of the last 14 yrs and we're spending Billions on IRAQ! Why should we give them another 4 yrs when all they're doing is telling new lies everyday!! Gov. Palin is caught up in a new lie everyday!

McCain doesn't need any more funds. All of the major lobbyists that have driven the American worker into the ground are providing plenty of funds to the Republicans and will govern for McCain.

How far into the tanks has the media fallen for the republican party? Well let's see..Every Ad the Mccain campaign runs is an out in out lie, but instead of calling it what it is they overplay it and praise how brilliant he was for making it. Then they have the nerve to say that obama is losing the pr war, and that he's not tough enough. How the hell is he suppose to be tough when he has to continuosly debunk and defuse trashy attacks against him when the media puts a positive spin on them? You got brack and biden laying out specific policy differences between them and Mccain who has no plan, and the media says there not being specific enough. I wonder whose party the media wants to win? Then you got the ice princess going on ABC only to make a complete fool of herself, showing that she has no business ever being considered for the 2nd highest office in the land, only to have the media praise her for not "messing up too bad". Are you kidding me? This woman has single handly threatened the safety of all americans by being on the stage, not only because she's proven to be an incompetent fraud without the ability or capacity to do the job she seeks, but because the media is shaping her imagine in such positive lights, leaving out all of the truth about her, which will serve a stupid american voters block with what they need to put her in office. You know what? I've lost all hope for this country because obviously this race wasn't going to be fair anyway you'd looked at it. Barack has to work too hard to make idiots see the light, and Mccain doesn't have to work at all to get those same idiots not to see him for what he and palin truely are, and that"s a disaster for america.

Where McCain went wrong is choosing Palin. She's no Michelle and she sure isn't a Hillary. Too bad John McCain thought just any woman would do. John, you lost alot of voters for that smooth move.

I just want know why Sarah Palin get to take her children to work with her. No other working mom can do that because no employer will let them. What, she couldn't rise enough money for child care and after school care? That is what working moms do pay for child care and after school care. Sarah Palin is not like the normal mother who works and have to rise money to take care of their family.
