Palin makes first foray into fundraising for McCain

CANTON, Ohio (CNN) - In her first fundraising effort on behalf of the McCain campaign, Sarah Palin raised just under $1 million, according to the host of the event.

Because McCain has accepted public financing for his campaign, the money raised will go towards the McCain-Palin Ohio Victory fund, which is comprised of the Ohio state GOP, the Republican National Committee, and the McCain-Palin Compliance Fund, which solicits private donations to help the campaign defray certain costs.

“Senator McCain will be stunned and he’ll be appreciative also,” Palin said of the money raised.
Palin spoke for about 20 minutes at Brookside Country Club in Canton (just down the road, a solitary protester held up a sign reading “Country Club First,” a mock-up of the campaign’s slogan “Country First.”)

The Alaska governor thanked Ohio’s convention delegation for helping her through her speech in St. Paul when, she said, her teleprompter malfunctioned.

“In the convention I had you to thank afterwards, because there Ohio was right out in front, in front of me,” she said. “And you know, I walked out there on stage and we started the teleprompter going in front of me. Teleprompter got messed up, and I wasn’t able to follow it. So, I decided, I’m just going to talk to the people in front me. And it was Ohio.”

Palin spent most of her speech praising McCain as she does on the stump, but she did take a moment to address the financial turmoil on Wall Street.

“We’re going to protect the life savings of everyday Americans,” she promised, adding: “John McCain and I are going to reform the way Wall Street does business.”

Palin’s husband Todd, who has been a quiet fixture on the campaign trail thus far, did some cheerleading for a few seconds at the end of the event

“Thanks for supporting this ticket, it’s the right ticket to support,” he said. “You’ve got a beautiful state. Go Buckeyes.”

    What values are that?
Being above the law; refusing to cooperate with investigators?

    Maybe you mean Cheney values.

It was reported on all the networks her teleprompter malfuntioned the day after the convention so where is the lie? You Obama supporters should worry about being taxed to death if your guy gets in. Candy Crowley even said some of the stuff on the campaign trail isn't true on Coopers program.

Wait, so they can still make any amount of money they want, it just goes to individual state campaign funds?

AND they get a free 85 million dollars?

Sounds familiar. Like how the government votes on a budget, and then gets to add "free" things to spend money on later. Like a war in a country we invaded for no good reason.

We are screwed either way we vote.

With Obama we get taxed to death but the government pays some of our tab while redistributing money from the top to the bottom.

With McCain we keep our money but have to pay rediculous prices to get by.

So it is either turn into Europe with Obama or turn into an unaffordable America with McCain.

I am going to have to go with McCain…so that I choose what I do with my money and how I spend it.
Then you are truly a fool who will soon be parted from his money because you will continue to pay these ridiculous prices for everything and those prices will keep going up and up under McCain's administration until you cannot afford anything..THEN it will be too late to take back your choice..uneducated idiot. Better to give to those less fortunate as what goes around, comes around tenfold but if you're a typical Repugnican then I'm wasting precious breath trying to explain it to the likes of you.

  8. Republican for Obama

I don't care what happens to her notes. She should never been on the ticket. It is not because she is a women ( since I am one); however, we don't know anything about her and the McCain campaign wants to force us to learn a little about her quick. I resent that. Obama is my choice. Believe me, there are many more that feel the same way I do.

Enough with the Democratic controlled Senate stuff!

The Senate is 49-49 with 2 independents. Sanders votes with the Democrats but Lieberman is Lieberman.

51 votes gets a bill to the President but he then vetoes it. Without 60 votes, there is no override. So much for "control". Tell the Republicans to stop stifling change!!

Governor Sarah Palin is authentically in touch with mainstream Americans! She can actually talk to them! 🙂

Obama fakes it but doesn't make it. Remember, he is the guy who talked behind closed doors about bitter Americans turning to guns, religion and bigotry! 🙁

McCain/Palin 08! They will deliver the authentic reform Americans can believe in! And, they will do it with integrity! 🙂

Will someone in the MEDIA get this WOMAN to talk without permission from McCain and camp?

Oh that's right, when McCain hired....ops...picked her she was only to make woman against woman voters...........

Imagine that, Palin spoke at a Country Club, who would have guessed! After all, they need more money to pay for all the LIES in their ads. That takes a lot of money you know.

So what's up with Palin not appearing to testify. Why wouldn't she testify if she has nothing to hide. Can't they subpeona her like they have her husband (the first dude). LOL! And...then to blame the democrats for setting this up. Good lord, are they completely out of their minds. Tainted investigation my foot! If you have nothing to hide, you would want to testify so the truth can come out.

Big contributions come from the wealthy. I know there are a lot of Republicans out there that aren't wealthy. Are they better off then they were 8 years ago. Probably not, so why are they voting on the issues instead of just voting Republican. I am a retired white woman who would love to see a woman in the White House. But, I won't vote for just any woman, it has to be one that I respect and admire.

Pull the string and the doll says its few programmed lines. But this doll is a Bride of Chucky!

People, we are being given a choice. Do we want the ship to sink to the left or sink to the right?

Can't you tell that both of these candidates, both these parties are the same old politicians? They both lie and try to use us and have no real solutions.

Both Obama and McCain are the same, politicians trying to get elected. They are our ENEMY!

And Obama never stood up in Chicago against his party and the corrupt system, and he never did much in the senate, and you can't change anything by voting present so much, etc etc. etc.

McCain had how many years and just look.

And they both flip flop so many times.

And the unmentionably awful democratic vile congress is just as bad or worse than the corrupt Republicans they replaced. What have they fixed? They are a stinking rotting corpse!

All these people are the death of this country. They just can't figure it out!

If you really look at them all and all that they say you find that they are all drastically wrong and they all need to be voted as far away from power as they can get.

It is what they are made of. They just are made wrong.

Either don't vote, or vote for some 3rd party that won't get in, and just say your prayers.

You should not vote for someone who does not represent you and who tries to use you and trick you and is all messed up. You just have to shake your head and not vote.

I can not believe that Gov. Palin still has not taken one single question from any news media ( other than the Charlie Gibson interview ) and has not been SERIOUSLY challenged concerning this by the news media and the voters. She is running for the Vice President or have I mistakenly tuned into a soap opera. Let's hear how she can handle herself when asked unscripted, unexpected, unpleasant questions. PLEASE !!! If she keeps dodging then she MUST have lots to hide. Be very careful America.

Colin Powell should take a stance for once in his civilian life. The Bush administration hung him out to dry with his false claims to the UN. Until now, he's been the "good soldier" although I wonder if he knows that he is no longer a soldier. Obama is the last best hope to keep McCain from becoming Bush 44. Powell should recognize that and endorse Obama for the good of the country that he served so well for so long.
