Palin allies sue to halt trooper probe

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/16/art.palin.9.14.jpg caption="Allies of Gov. Palin are asking for a judge to half the trooper probe."]
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - Allies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin asked a judge Tuesday to halt the state Legislature's investigation into the firing of her public service commissioner, calling the probe a "McCarthyistic" inquisition.

The five Republican state lawmakers who filed suit say the leaders of the investigation "are unable to hold the balance between vindicating their own political interests and the interests of those who are being investigated."

Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire a state trooper going through a bitter custody dispute with her sister - and that Monegan was terminated when he refused. Palin says she fired Monegan over budget issues, and denies any wrongdoing.

She originally pledged to cooperate with the investigation that a bipartisan commission of the state Legislature commissioned in July. But since becoming Sen. John McCain's running mate, campaign spokesmen have lashed out at the probe as "tainted" and "partisan."

Palin welcomed this bi-partisian investigation, then she wouldn't testify, now she wants it stopped.

Can you say cover-up? She and Dick Cheney could be twins.

Nice. Palin was being investigated for this long before she became the VP on the Republican ticket. And now, she and the Republicans are calling the probe "tainted" and "partisan".

Not sure how anyone with more then a third grade education, could argue this point and actually believe it.

Biden and McCain are the only ones qualified to be in this race, and since only one of them is running for president, this is a very easy choice

I guess Sarah Palin is above the law just like the rest of the republicans. Let's vote them in for 8 more years of corruption, cover ups and thumbing their nose at the constitution. This smells like the last 8 years of Bush reincarnated. It is unbelievable. The potential future VP (god forbid) objects to being investigated and tries to shrug it off and call it a witch hunt. Well she got the witch part right! If she is innocent, what is the problem? These republicans make me ill.

I guess she wants to reform Washington to make it more accountable and transparent... just so long as it's not about her.

She is a liar if she can't answer these questions under oath. America deserves to know the truth. If she did nothing wrong why is she running?

Independent voting for Obama over the GOP circus.

She agrees to cooperate with the investigation and now she wants to stop it. Yeah, that's real republican cooperation for you.

Joseph Raymond McCarthy (November 14, 1908 – May 2, 1957) was an American politician who served as a Republican U.S. Senator from the state of Wisconsin from 1947 until his death in 1957

Is she saying a Republican is bad?

  14. Palin and Repugnants are a joke

Palin claiming executive priviledge I guess, just like Bush. Don't want the truth to come out might damage her credibility.

Palin has nothing to hide, but will unlikely co-operate? Investigation started before her candicacy. More republicans on investigation team by 3 to 2.

You get to decide who is going to investigate you in America. That's a new one....lets all go rob the banks and then tell the judge we want a couple of our fellow bank robbers to do the investigation.

The AK Repubs are desperate to stop this. They know this is will torpedo Ol' Sarah's reputation. Had McCain really vetted her, shoe would not have made it. Unfortunately, he was desperate to save his campaign...Sorry, John...You might have peaked too early.

Um...this investigation began way prior to her becoming VP. What does Obama have to do with it?

    Tsk, Tsk, Repuglicans.

Mrs. Palin, either submit to the investigation, or look really suspicious and guilty (which we all know you are).

No matter what happens, you'll always be scum in my eyes.

How is this ok? How are they getting away with saying its tainted and partisan when its HER allies trying to block things. The commission was set up in JULY, clearly before her VP nomination.

I seriously do not get how this could be happening.

  25. no trickle down...

We already know she's a lier, that will try to get what she wants at all costs!

BUT that's nothing new – lets get back to what's important – the state of the American economy and the Bush/McCain policies that got us there.

If McCain was so much for change – how come he didn't change anything over the last 26 years....? Now he thinks the Economy is strong. I'd hate to see it when it's Weak!!!!!!
