Palin allies sue to halt trooper probe

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/16/art.palin.9.14.jpg caption="Allies of Gov. Palin are asking for a judge to half the trooper probe."]
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - Allies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin asked a judge Tuesday to halt the state Legislature's investigation into the firing of her public service commissioner, calling the probe a "McCarthyistic" inquisition.

The five Republican state lawmakers who filed suit say the leaders of the investigation "are unable to hold the balance between vindicating their own political interests and the interests of those who are being investigated."

Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire a state trooper going through a bitter custody dispute with her sister - and that Monegan was terminated when he refused. Palin says she fired Monegan over budget issues, and denies any wrongdoing.

She originally pledged to cooperate with the investigation that a bipartisan commission of the state Legislature commissioned in July. But since becoming Sen. John McCain's running mate, campaign spokesmen have lashed out at the probe as "tainted" and "partisan."

Of course Palin will cooperate with an investigation by the Personnel Board. The Governor of Alaska appoints the members of the Personnel Board.

I feel like I am in an Obama pep rally. I guess we know who watches and reads CNN. Maybe all the hate that the dem's have scares Palin's people a little. There is no telling what they might come up with....true or not.

Why not? The results were to be announced mere days before the election. Now that the McCain vetting team has finally figured out there is substance behind Palin's questionable actions, they are trying to delay the results until after the election.

Pathetic that they are trying to hide the truth from the people.

would'nt we just know that obama people are behind the investigation of palin's firing of the state trooper or whatever they are alleging. it is so not important, anyone but a woman as far as mr obama is concerned, they destroyed mrs clinton and now mrs palin. the untouchable obama should be confronted regarding his infantile behavior. as well as his inexperience and inability to lead our country. hopefully he will be asked about this in the debates. have we lost our freedom of speech as far as criticizing him is concerned?

Sarah Palin is running for VP of the USA. She really does not have the luxury of not answering questions. This isn't the beauty pageant. This is an election. She is way over her head; otherwise, why is she not answering ANY questions? Why are there no news conferences? Why are "news people" giving her a free ride? You are reporters, as such, I expect you to interview EVERYONE running for President or VP in the upcoming election. This entire thing is silly. Give her a free ride the same as you did George W Bush 8 years ago...four years ago....and maybe we can have a war with Iran shortly after another Republican regime. I know that your boss is Republican...but this country, and certainly, the world, is at stake. If you all stood up to your bosses, maybe we could have some real reporting once again.

I thought she was going to change Washington???

Is avoiding investigations (exactly what the Bush Administration has done the past 8 years) really change?

How can you be for changing Washington if you don't change the way you do things?

The McCain campaign is constantly surrounded by lies, scandal, and distractions. Yet they are tied with Obama in the polls. I guess the rest of the county does not bother reading the news. They seem to be focused on their image and who would be cooler to have a beer with.

What is there really to investigate? Commissioner Monegan is on the record in August stating that neither Governor Palin nor her husband ever pressured him to fire the state trooper. And if you saw the trooper in question on CNN, you would realize that he should have been fired. But the lead investigator is obviously so biased against Governor Palin that he has already announced, before the investigation is really under way, that the findings will be an October surprise and harmful to Governor Palin.

Can you say "McCarthyism?" or "witch hunt?"

8 years of cheneyistic presidency, oops, I mean vice presidency is enough for this country. We need leaders that take responsibility for their actions and accountable to American people.

From thier maneuver there is something she and her party is trying to hide. I deserve to know the truth before I cast my vote so does the whole nation!!

CNN push this matter all the way!!

Palin is scary till she comes out clean.

  23. Hello

So when Obama balks and sends his supporters to call radio shows to stop investigations about Bill Ayers connections and all his other shady dealings in Illinois.... Is he hiding something?

By all your logic Obama should let the investigations happen, unless he has something to hide...
