Palin allies sue to halt trooper probe

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/16/art.palin.9.14.jpg caption="Allies of Gov. Palin are asking for a judge to half the trooper probe."]
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - Allies of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin asked a judge Tuesday to halt the state Legislature's investigation into the firing of her public service commissioner, calling the probe a "McCarthyistic" inquisition.

The five Republican state lawmakers who filed suit say the leaders of the investigation "are unable to hold the balance between vindicating their own political interests and the interests of those who are being investigated."

Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, is battling allegations that she and her advisers pressured then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire a state trooper going through a bitter custody dispute with her sister - and that Monegan was terminated when he refused. Palin says she fired Monegan over budget issues, and denies any wrongdoing.

She originally pledged to cooperate with the investigation that a bipartisan commission of the state Legislature commissioned in July. But since becoming Sen. John McCain's running mate, campaign spokesmen have lashed out at the probe as "tainted" and "partisan."

The reason she would not want to cooperate now is because there is now a bigger political reason for investigators or others to smear her or skew answers and follow a political agenda rather than a judicial proceedure. Any politician in a major election would do the same thing in order to avoid any partisan politiking or misinterpretation of answers to enter into the investigation. Face it... you would do the same thing if your reputation was one misquote away from obtaining your dream.

The McCain campaign is constantly surrounded by lies, scandal, and distractions. Yet they are tied with Obama in the polls. I guess the rest of the country does not bother reading the news. They seem to be focused on their image and who would be cooler to have a beer with.

if I'm not mistaken, isn't there 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats on the board, and 1 repulblican sided with the democrats, what is going on here. First she will, then she won't, sounds kinda fishy to me.

Just like the rest of the republican hiarchy she is above the law. I heard the state of Alaska is dropping their probe. I guess the powers to be wield a pretty heavy hand in Alaska politics. I guess this means we will never know if she was running a personal vendetta. My opinion is she was.

The truth shall set her free – to return to Alaska to shoot more wolves from a plane, fire more long term employees, take money for bridges and give it to the road to nowhere.

McCain likes to shoot from the hip and go with his gut. Is that what we want from a president? Sarah is a bully in the same vein as Cheney. Is that what we need as a vp?

America stand Up and VOTE for the team that will put us back on the right track. Obama/Biden will make decisions based on facts, knowledge and good judgment. We need an intelligent and thoughtful president. Obama is the only one that fits that description.

If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. Can anyone please tell me why her husband Todd, who I understand is not an elected or appointed official, routinely sits in on meetings and is copied on all e-mails? Just what kind of governme is Palin running up there?

I'm sure tomorrow this will be Obama's fault. I thought she told Charlie Gibson she had nothing to hide and would welcome the investigation. I guess she doesn't want to make history by being the first VP to be indicted before being elected. Typical, corrupt, we are above the law republicans. Can you say cover-up?

This investigation started before she was VP and contained 3 republicans and two democrats on the committee that gave the final go ahead. Palin has said she wants a more transparent government but won't answer questions about something she claims was legit? Not answering questions is a sign of guilt, everyone knows that.

I bet she made a deal when becoming the VP that the investigation would "go away." I just bet that is how things went down.

If she had nothing to hide why doesn't she prove it? Sounds like she's taking after the Bush regime. Sending government email through personal email accounts – sound familiar?
This kind of government has to stop!

What is there to sue? It's a legal investigation and if it upsets people they should get over it.

Aha ahaaa Go look under the"rock star"

What a bunch of sour grapes. Always on the look out for some trash.
Press was DUMPSTER DIVING Since day 1

Lets face it, if Sarah hadn't been tapped for VP none of this trash would have been of any interest in the lower 48 or any where else for that matter.

Hey, wait a minute. Wasn't McCarthy a Republican? So then why all the hubbub over a "McCarthyistic Inquisition"? Oh wait. I get it. The shoe is on the other foot now. Sorry. What was I thinking.

What does she have to hide? As VP running mate or hockey mom...if you're innocent of all charges then why not welcome the investigation? The republicans will argue that 2 senators are backers of obama...big whoop!....answers like those fall in the same category as the reason mccain gave the ladies on the view as to why he runs negative ads! I'm sure she abused her power...she;s to smug in her actions not to have! why not investigate the creamery closing controversy too? I laughed yesterday at dana bash's comments as to the mccain camp having made and then handed out the homemade signs to the crowd....yoy....aren't they happy enough controlling her speechs?...are all republican supports sheep?

If you have nothing to hide and state that clearly then how could you be found guilty of wrongdoing?

Sounds like your 'transparency' for government is a farce like the MSM have been finding out about your administration.

We don't need a female Cheney.

Palin Power is here to stay. The democrats are placed in a corner by this future to become VP of the United States alone. Obama have a lot to learn yet and is totally not ready to take any desicion for the country. Mccain will guide this country and the world to a better live for everyone. The terrorists are shaking if Mccain is ellected and they will dance if Obama is. Think on that..!! America, do not rush to judgement but choose the Mccain -Palin ticket for a better future for America, for yourself and for your childrens...

If the fact that Sarah Palin will not cooperate in the Troopergate investigation is not lving proof that a McCain/Palin administration will not be 4 more years of Bush, I don't know what is. I just listened to a campaign spokesman for the McCain campaign and saw more fancy footwork than you see on Dancing with the Stars.

The trooper used a taser against his own young son, he admitted this himself.

Multiple investigators are admitted and open Obama supporters.

Bring out the pitch forks and torches. She is a Republican so she must be a lying (right?)

If she was a democrat and these investigators were republicans you would be screaming how unfair the investigators were and trying to slur her reputation. Come on CNN you know you would....its OK we know you would.

You in the media seem so upset that the mean Gov Palin won't play with you you are going to get angry at her. Poor little news media.
Must have hurt your collective feelings.

Makes you all look so good to Obama supporters.

To the rest of the country you look like spoiled angry children that are bitter that she wont talk to you. How dare she treat you like that right? Jesus, you all in the media need to grow up and stop acting so childish. 2008 the year the main stream media lost its objectivity and professionalism.
