Clinton cancels appearance over Palin

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/17/art.clintonevent.ap.jpg caption="Clinton is canceling an appearance at an event Palin is also slated to attend."](CNN) - Reporters who got notice yesterday of an event headlined by both Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton figured the prospect of an SNL skit come to life was too good to be true, a gift from the campaign gods.

But for a few hours, it was. “We are pleased to inform you that the keynote speakers at the “Stop Iran. Now!” Rally are confirmed to be Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Governor Sarah Palin and Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel,” read an e-mail from a leader of a Jewish group planning the event.

But the curtain came down on the comedy sketch-turned-reality before the duo ever hit the stage: Clinton officials soon said they had not been told Palin would be on hand — and that her presence, which made the event a political one, would mean the absence of the New York senator.

"Her attendance was news to us, and this was never billed to us as a partisan political event," said Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines. "Senator Clinton will therefore not be attending."

The McCain-Palin campaign has not yet said whether Palin herself will still be attending the event, but released a statement criticizing Clinton’s withdrawal. "Governor Palin believes that the danger of a nuclear Iran is greater than party or politics,” said spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. “She hopes that all parties can rally together in opposition to this grave threat."

Palin has praised Clinton since being named John McCain’s running mate — although she has largely dropped those compliments from her stump speech after drawing a negative response from GOP audiences. Clinton herself has largely avoided mentioning or directly criticizing the Alaska governor during her appearances on behalf of Barack Obama’s presidential bid.

If Obama had chosen Hillary, McCain would not have chosen Sarah Palin. Palin is a tool. Sarah Palin's #1 purpose is to get Hillary-supporters to vote for McCain. Why else would McCain choose a running mate who was ALREADY under investigation? Sarah Palin was hoping to get a great photo standing next to Hillary Clinton (even if Hillary Clinton was frowning...hahah) to use in future commerical ads for McCain. Sarah, if you don't try harder to deceit, I'm sure McCain will send you back to Alaska.

    please post

    GOOD JOB HILLARY,
Hillary is a TRUE woman and leader of this country, Palin is a cheap disgrace to women and the McCain camp wanted both together to try and get Hillary voters...well as a liberal first and Hillary supporter second..I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR PALIN.

Once again McCain is resorting to scum like behavior to win votes well its not going to work because Hillary is much to smart for a hockey mom!

You know Hillary just came off of a tight race, where she could have been the winner, she needs her space.

Palin is benefiting from Hillary's effort, so she should thank Hillary for paving the way.

If it wasnt for Hillary, and if Palin was just thrown out there, nobody would have voted for McCain.

    Abby –

You are a phony pretending to be a Hillary supporter. You can fall for these loser if you want. This was a wise judgement from Hillary and Obama. Your are right it is the Country before politics and that's what she did. Thought about the people and not some gimmick the Repugs are trying to set up. Beside Hillary would have ate her alive and served her up for dog meat.

He is a real fighter not a pretender like that floozy ya'll are running after.

Bumblebe, I think you need to research who is putting politics first!
McPalin – Putting party, corporations, special interests, politics and pretty much everything else, before country

TLF if you can't see that Hillary put party first by cancelling and that Barack has voted consistently along party lines, and that he is also the 2nd largest recipient of donations from Fannie and Freddie Mac who he likes to villainize but quiety sticks his hand behind his back to take the money while you sit and lose your home all to further his agenda and politcal self interest and Hilary as well then you deserve what you get. Everyone has a stake in this and everyone yourself and myself included are to blame for the mess. Its truly not about one party or the other everyone needs to grow up and stop pointing fingers and take responsibility for the problems and stop the name calling. Did you happen to notice that I was able to post this without once referring to your candidate in a name calling babyish manner. Its called maturity, why don't you go out and get some.

Why didn't Palin ask Biden to join her then if its greater than party and politics? This was clearly a stunt Hillary has proven she believes a nuclear Iran is unacceptable. It is Palin who needs to prove her worth.
