McCain camp seeks investigation over reported e-mail hack

, , ,

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption=" Palin's personal e-mail was reportedly hacked Wednesday."](CNN) - John McCain's campaign said Wednesday it has contacted "appropriate authorities" over a report that Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's personal e-mail had been hacked.

"This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law," campaign manager Rick Davis said in a statement. "The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."

The statement came hours after a user on the Web site WikiLeaks said he had gained access to Palin's Yahoo e-mail account and gained access.  Screenshots of the e-mail messages and photos of the Alaska governor's family were published on that Web site and later on gossip Web site

FBI Spokesman Eric Gonzalez in Anchorage, Alaska confirms to CNN an investigation is underway.

"We are aware of the allegations and we are coordinating with Secret Service as far as the allegation that someone has hacked into Governor Palin's personal e-mail account," he said. "We are going to be working a joint investigation with Secret Service on this."

Brian Hale, an FBI spokesman in Washington, also confirms the FBI has been contacted about the incident. Two federal law enforcement sources say the FBI and Secret Service would have concurrent jurisdiction normally on a matter such as this, but it remains to be seen if the Secret Service will take the lead on the investigation because Palin is a protectee.

The e-mails shown include one from July between Palin and Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell and another dated earlier this week from Amy McCorkell, the woman Palin appointed to the Governor's Advisory Board on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in 2007.

Palin has faced criticism for using a private e-mail account to conduct some state business - prompting critics to allege she was attempting to hide information from the public record.

The fact that this woman used personal email account to conduct state business proves she is a MORON and is UNFIT to represent the people at ANY level of GOVERNMENT.

It is time to kick her butt to the curb!!

Well, I would think that if they want an investigation then they should tie both investigation together. I mean why have just one investigation based on which one is easier to pull off.

Troopergate/Email investigation.... What's there to hide.

This is the type of politics Obama's camp like to run. Let their people do what they want and hide behind them. Obama is as low as his politics... Lets read Hussein Obama's email.

Its un- ethical if anybody hacks someone else e:mails! and its wrong! but how can we know the Republicans are telling the truth? or they just want more attention?. Have they noticed that Biden is stealing the limelight from their Alaskan Heroen?. The republicans only have themselves to blame for not electing Mitt Romney as the touch bearer! at least I couldn't have much concern with his heath! and he has run a business!!!

Sh$t! Sarah Palin is in contact with the mother of an exiled Kenyan general and could benefit from secret, international bank accounts worth $2.7 million American dollars.

A McCain staffer probably did this so that the campaign could continue paint Palin as a victim and further attempt to steer media coverage away from the real issues because its clear he loses standing when that's the focus.

This woman is just a big bag of contradictions, trivial complaints and horror stories. Her family is a soap opera. I see Cindy McCain has taken her in hand fashion-wise, and she finally has a decent hair cut and a much improved wardrobe. This is superficial stuff.

Suggesting a war with Russia is NOT superficial stuff!!

But, please, people, don't be taken in by the hoopla.

She is bad for America, and John McCain simply does not have a clue.

If we Americans are stupid enough to vote Palin/McCain into office, then we'll get the government we deserve. A continuation of the Bush/Rove pattern of deception and decline.

Reading these post just goes to show how misinformed the liberals are.
The alleged Trooper Gate is a state matter to be investgated by the State of Alaska.
Internet Crimes are fall under another jurisdiction. Of course when Obama's private life came into play, everyone was outraged and he got his way.
There is no question about it. The liberal Media have their candidate for president and nothing will stop them from making sure he gets it. Short of Killing someone I hope.
I don't expect to see my post on CNN because of the 36 posts so far, only a few have sided with Palin while the rest are spouting Democratic talking points.
No wonder they call CNN the Clinton News Network, except that her coronation did not go off as planned.

It is a campaign ploy to put her back in the headline. No one hack MCPAIN email account. I don't believe one word that come out of those people. They are liars. Trying to keep focus away from the economy. Give me a break CNN!

this might be a strategy to get the media from talking about the economy because obama is gaining on him,so i dont believe it,they tried to change the topic this morning with this bombing in yeman, which i know the gop was responsible for, because the govt over there in yeman was quoted sayin this afternoon this looks like a setup by outsiders.these people will do anything to change the topic,so lookout for something else by tommorow, because they dont want the media talking about this economy, they wants to keep the american people focused on personal issues..

  23. Steve K.

Hold on America. This is absolute crap. It is a setup to divert our attention away from real issues AGAIN!

There is nothing in this e-mail account that can be proven to be Gov. Palin's actual email account. It was created and "hacked into" by sympathizers to the McCain campaign.

Of course, CNN and other MSM will report it as actual news until it has done it's accomplished it's necessary goal of changing the focus of the news cycle.

Please. Don't be fooled again. How many times do we have go through this before we recognize the pig behind the lipstick? (That is, dirty politics...NOT Gov. Palin or McCain, k?)

I dont think anyone hacked her email account. If it did happen it probably was planned by the McCain Camp...I am sure McSame wants the media to talk more about lipstick than the economy again.
