Palin takes first impromptu question from national press

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Gov. Palin campaigned in Nevada last weekend."]
CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN) - Sarah Palin took her first impromptu question from a reporter traveling with her campaign Wednesday while shaking hands at a restaurant called Karl's Inn of the Barristers in Cleveland.

A pool reporter from the national press corps asked Palin's reaction to the federal bailout of insurance giant AIG.

Palin said she is "disappointed that taxpayers are called upon to bailout another one."

"Certainly AIG, though, with the construction bonds that they're holding, and with the insurance that they are holding, very, very impactful to Americans," she said. "So you know, the shot that has been called by the feds, it's understandable but very, very disappointing that taxpayers are called upon for another one."

The reporter asked Palin if she had plans to come to the back of the campaign plane to chat with the reporters who cover her as she campaigns around the country.

"We're getting lonely back there," the reporter said.

"Are you getting lonely?," Palin answered. "Gee, yeah, come on up then!"

When Palin entered the restaurant with her husband Todd, she introduced herself to about 10 patrons as "Sarah," and told them, "Excuse me for interrupting your meal." It was Palin's first retail campaign stop since the day McCain tapped her as his running mate.

Now they're letting the "lightweight", not really a journalist, katie couric interview her next! What exactly are they hiding from us?! The fact that she's a right wing wacko cheney clone?

Senator Clinton's daughter took tougher questions than Palin. What? will the reporters have to submit their questions for approval and to give her handlers time to research and craft a rresponse for her to read?

What?!! She answered a question?!! OMG!! Stop the presses!!! How absurd is it that it is considered "news" when a VP candidate answers a SINGLE question from the press? We have truly entered the bizzaro world and there are people who are actually supporting this bizzaro candidate.

Real pearls of wisdom from Palin about the economic mess we're in. At the rate the repugs are going the US Govt. won't have any money left to help the Detroit when they need it the most.
Just goes to show ya that the repugs will bail out the white collar types who make a great living pushing paper but not the blue collar workers who make things and only want a living wage in return...

First question asked and averted with the obvious answer. Still nothing of substance there.

America is still falling for this? If this was a National IQ Test, We would be failing right now!

It's hilarious when a politician answering a question from the press is considered an "event" worthy of a new-mention all by itself. McCain's camp would have us believe that Palin is a credible possibility for taking over the presidency, but they protect her from the press like she's a fragile Fabrege egg. Fact is, they're AFRAID to let her talk, because the more she talks, the more ignorant she looks about the business of running America.

John McCain has undermined everything he ever claimed to stand for with this ridiculous pick. He did it entirely for political reasons, and that's hardly putting "country first."

Its called "baby steps". The other three guys in this election have been doing this for 2 yrs. If she is so hot and ready, they should cut her loose to get as much opprtunity to answer questions unscripted...i say UNSCRIPTED!

probably a plant. no other questions were asked & that's the same statement she made pertaining to fannie mae & freddie mac when it had nothing to do w/the taxpayers @ the time. Although she's so brilliant that she could foresee this????!!!!!! YEAH RIGHT.....

It is obvious that Ms. Palin knows nothing about economy. If the feds did not come to the rescue of AIG it would have disastrous consequences not only here in the US but globally. She scares me.

Wow, her answer really had some depth. She knows about as much about the national economy as the mating crabs she got federal earmarks to research.

All she did was repeat what many others have said. I really don't know if Gov Palin has had and offered an original thought on the issues thus far...

Try as I might, I cannot make any sense out of her statement.

I noticed a few comments talked about McPain winning the Jewish vote, because Palin is supposed to appear at an event that Elie Weisel is attending.

I wish the media would mention that Palin's church is against Jews, so I doubt that she is going to bring in the Jewish vote.

Her church had a speaker from Jews For Jesus, who basically stated that the Jews are getting their judgement now, and in the future. Missy Palin was there, and her pastor stated that he would be glad to have that speaker back. I don't think that she is losing sleep over the thought of Iran taking out Israel, since her church feels it is their judgement day and they are getting what they deserve.

What a crock she is. How can people be so stupid!!!!

Hmmm, refusing to testify for official government investigations, lying about dozens of easily-disproved facts, contempt for the press...she's even more like Bush than McCain!!

you will see more of this. I believe Palin was smart to let the left get their rage spent before she started answering questions from the press.

Prediction: Palin said "Come on up," when surrounded by people to give the impression that she's willing to take questions, but when everyone is back on the plane, there will be no question and answer session.

"I'm disappointed but it had to be done." Well that really gets to the heart of it, doesn't it?

Will that be her standard response every time this happens during a McCain-Palin administration? "Couldn't help it. Had to do it. Didn't wanna. Wouldn't be prudent."

    Lipstick on a non-answer.

As an ardent supporter of Clinton I opine that Clinton should not have avoided a joint meeting attended by Palin. It is for a common cause-A global fight against nuclear disarmament. Let us not forget Palin will be our next VP for sure. both the women deserve praises for their good work to their constituencies thus far.

    How Ridiculous is this!?

Are we actually giving Palin Props for finally answering 1 question that was "unscripted". The bar seems to be set awfully low for this VP wannabee.

So next month, she will be able to answer "2" questions without a script and we will be congratulating her again.

Shame on America for even considering this Fraud as a VP choice.
