CNN POLL OF POLLS: Obama up by 2

Obama is gaining in national polls.

Obama is gaining in national polls.

(CNN) - Barack Obama appears to be regaining his summer edge over John McCain according to the latest CNN poll of polls, which shows a swing of four points in the Illinois senator's favor in just over a week.

With less than seven weeks remaining until voters weigh in at the polls, Obama now holds a 2 point lead over McCain (47 percent to 45 percent), according to CNN's average of several recent national polls. Eight percent still remain undecided.

The latest polls also suggest Obama again holds the slim but clear advantage he held in August before both parties' conventions - one month ago, Obama held the same 2 point margin over McCain.

The Illinois senator increased that lead following his own convention, but saw it disappear entirely after McCain tapped Sarah Palin as his running mate and Republicans emerged energized from their convention in early September: In a CNN poll of polls taken 10 days ago, The McCain-Palin ticket held a 2 point advantage over its Democratic counterpart.

The poll of polls consists of six recent surveys: CBS/NYT (September 12-16), Quinnipiac (September 11-16), IPSOS-McClatchy (September 11-15), Gallup (September 14-16), Diageo/Hotline (September 14-16), and American Research Group (September 13-15).

It does not have a sampling error.

Monday McCain ardently proclaimed the economy is fundamentally strong while Lehman Brothers went bankrupt, thereby putting our American financial situation on a Death Watch. Obama and Biden are still talking with the public about the economy, change and what's in it for the voter. Yes, I want a health care plan, yes I want to keep my house, yes I want all that and more for me, my children and my neighbors. Contrast that with McCain who can't stop with the outrage over Palin's e-mail possibly being hacked (Yahoo e-mail of all things for government communication), lipstick metaphors, and utterly irrelevant rhetoric. Come election day in November the voter will be struggling to pay to heat their homes, plus eat, plus pay for medicine, plus care for our horribly damaged troops returning from 2 wars. McCain will be down so far in the polls he will have to look up to see down.

Looking at a townhall meeting with Palin and McCain. I noticed that she's doing all the speaking. Is she planning to kill off McCain and become president. She's doing all the speaking and non of it is about the issues. This is the Basic "W" When, What , How and Who?

Now Obamabots the polls are correct, but last week there weren't because ur candidate was down. Are y'all clones of Keith Olberman? Just asking because y'all share a common goal of something y'all all lack. Objectivity.

the world does not need a cheerleader. palin would do well at a pep rally but would look stupid in the whitehouse. she has no credentials and only makes mccain look like a stanchy old man. he acts nervous all the time now and worried. she is making a joke of him in public. she needs to bowe out gracfully right now to save face later. she is nothing but a drama queen and her flipant answers to everything is getting so old just to listen to. her halo is gone and all that is left is a silly woman that is cluless as to how to run our country.

The Democrats in congress are not without blood on their hands regarding the economy. The latest banking situation even more so. People believe what they want to believe but he truth about Democratic complicity in this will come out and erase for the last time Obamas leads.

The Democrats know the smoke and mirrors they are using right now to deflect their blame in this but the American people are going to know the truth before Nov and the Dems will do it to themselves again and loose another election (an I sure they will not take any blame)

When McCain was up, all Obama supporters kept saying that polls mean nothing or the cell phone owners are not taking in the polls so the polls are not accurate. Now, when the polls show that Obama is just couple of points ahead, they all cheer that the truth is prevailed! The fact is Obama supporters do not care much about reality. They are happy with whatever stirs their emotion.

Palin is a joke- A mean spirited, angry, racist, prejudice, ignorant Dick Cheney wannabe.

McCain is a power hungry idiot that is obsessed with power.

McCain's attacking Wall Street calling them "fat cats; greedy; and corrupt", and at the same time employing the human resources that supported that system; well McCain is going to pay a very expensive price in the can't have your cake and eat it too........John!

Which actually means he's up by around 7 or 8 points.

....but that wouldn't get ratings, would it?

You Obama supporters are hypocrites. When McCain was up in the polls, you said the polls mean nothing. Now it's Obama up, and you're ready to declare victory.

    Get real, will you?

america is starting to wake up...McSame and Hockey Mom have no clue how to get us out of the troubles we find ourselves in, that is so painfully evident when you listen to them try to answer questions or explain their actions. Go Obama Go!

As one commenter above suggested, it is true that "the fundamentals of our intelligence are not so strong". Are you kidding me here? I don't generally care that much about polls but I would have expected the lead for Obama to be extremely higher by now.

The choice for this election couldn't be any clearer!!!...I hope come November, the American people will send a strong message where they want this country to go. The stakes couldn't be higher!!!

If Palin keeps her fat trap shut, OBAMA wouldn't make so much money off her. She's an exceptional donor to the Dems.

I can hardly believe that Obama is not leading by more except to say that the American people are just not looking at the whole picture as far as McCain is concerned. Obama is right, the old boys are nothing more than a staff meeting. America better wake up,and wake up fast. I DO NOT want another 4 years of Republican leadership (if thats what you call it). America is drowning in it's own greed and corruption and I want my country back.
