Protesters interrupt Palin and McCain speeches

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="John McCain and Sarah Palin were interrupted by protestors Thursday."]
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CNN) - Sarah Palin’s introduction of John McCain in Cedar Rapids Thursday was noisily interrupted by a small group of anti-war protesters from the University of Iowa, who sparked a back-and-forth of shouting that drowned out at least four minutes of her remarks.

Palin kept speaking throughout the disruption, but her remarks were nearly unintelligible to much of the audience inside the airplane hangar where the rally was held.

About five minutes into Palin’s speech, four female students from the University of Iowa Feminist Majority and Anti-War Alliance held up a cloth banner, and began a loud anti-war chant in the middle of the crowd. An advance staffer tore the banner from their hands and other members of the audience shouted them down with chants of “USA! USA!” and “SARAH! SARAH!”

It was several minutes before the women were escorted from the venue.

The demonstration should have come as no surprise to McCain-Palin advance staff: a local newspaper, The Gazette, reported earlier that the protesters would be in attendance Thursday.

Another protester disrupted McCain’s speech about half an hour later, sparking an even louder, but shorter, commotion.

Palin stumbled out of the gate on arriving in Cedar Rapids. The Alaska governor told the audience that she was thrilled to be in “Grand Rapids,” the Michigan city where the campaign had just overnighted.

People, keep in mind that Sarah is not running for President so stop acting like She is. If I were Mccain I get my ears clean, because the chants are clearly not for Him.

My my... look at the gnashing of liberal teeth. Iis this how liberals were acting in the summer of 1984 just before Reagan handed the socialists a 49-state defeat?

Just so you know, it's going to be a landslide, hippies. And when you lose, don't think it was because Conservatives cheated to beat you. Socialism fails everytime it's put to a vote in this country and it's not going to be pretty for Obama Marx.

What qualifies Obama to be an expert on foreign policy??? I guess it would be his "fight" with General Petreus, his rock-star appearance in Germany, his speech in England when they suggested that he go to the beach. Joe Biden has lots of foreign experience. But the catch here is that he's not the president, and does not make the final decision on anything. So in reality, Palin - as the vice presidential candidate knows as much, if not more, than the one who would be president.

Why are the leftist so rude?

I'll tell you why, we are sick and tired of country be run by a bunch of goons that don't have a clue that they are DOING IT WRONG! They fail to acknowledge when they are wrong and because of that they have gone left unchecked, meanwhile they have destroyed the American infrastructure. You guys are corrupt, corrupt!

Remember it's very simple, the Republican party is the party that wrecked America. We will not forget.

While you Neocons were busy calling for Clinton's impeachment, you got your way. Now people are calling for Bush's impeachment and they are called unpatriotic. Get over yourself GOP posters, get over yourself!

Again chants of "USA" to drown out protesters. It is sickening the way they try to say anyone who disagrees with them is somehow less American than they are. If they lived hundreds of years ago, they would be trying to drown out the founding fathers.

Don, what makes you automatically think they were Democrats? This election is not about what party you belong to anymore. It's about wanting the very best for our country. "Yes we can!"

I agree that it is frustrating to see demonstrators interrupt important speeches, but face it folks, freedom of speech is part of what those boys (and girls) have been fighting and dying for.

An oft chanted plea of protesters is, "Off the sidewalks, into the streets!" This lifts me up, inspires me, makes my heart sing. I am with them all in spirit, and when I can, in body.

Why does McCain say every time he gets interrupted by protesters that Americans want us to stop yelling at each other? Like, "Look, now you've upset the rest of America with all your yelling!"

I think you need to consider what each candidate is all about. The Republicans are for giving you choices and then there is the Democratic candidate.. he is quotes as saying that he thinks 401k's and IRa's are planned socialism and he does not believe people can save money for their retirement. We I would rather have a 401k and an IRA and if you don't like the stock market by the way you can always buy and investment property or a part of a property in your IRA. THere is no excuse for voting Democrat. No Obabma for our country–he just is too liberal.
