Palin briefed by Director of National Intelligence

NEW YORK (CNN) - Before heading out for a trio of well-publicized meetings with foreign dignitaries on Tuesday, Sarah Palin received a national security briefing from the Director of National Intelligence, Admiral Michael McConnell, who met with the governor this morning in her New York hotel.

Palin’s top foreign policy adviser informed reporters of the meeting at a small briefing following Palin’s visits with Afghan president Hamid Karzai, Colombian president Alvaro Uribe and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

The adviser, Stephen Biegun, formerly a senior official on the National Security Council under President Bush, characterized the intelligence briefing as “routine” and said it was the sort of meeting that “is standard for candidates for the vice president and president.” Biegun said several officials were present to brief Palin.

Palin then departed her hotel for a series of motorcade trips around Manhattan, visiting with foreign leaders for the first time in her career.

“These are relationships that she intuitively understands are very important for the next President and Vice President of the United States,” Biegun said of the meetings.

In those get-togethers, Palin kept the focus primarily on energy issues and the growing influence of Russia, according to Biegun. Palin found Kissinger particularly engrossing - their meeting had been scheduled to last 30 minutes, but the two met for nearly an hour and a half.

“In talking to Dr. Kissinger,” Biegun said, “she certainly had a lot of questions about how the United States can develop a cooperative relationship with Russia, what are some of the unique challenges to the current state of Russia's political development, and having been in particular, some of the recent developments we've seen with Russia - backsliding democracy, Russia’s incursion into Georgia.”

Asked about her meetings with Karzai and Uribe, Biegun said Palin “liked them very much” and “established a great personal rapport.”

With Karzai, Palin chatted for half an hour about John McCain’s desire to send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan. With Uribe, she listened for about 20 minutes as the president discussed the country’s security situation and its handling of the FARC guerillas.

According to Biegun, “rather than make specific policy prescriptions, she was largely listening, having an exchange of views, and also very interested in forming a relationship with people she met with today.”

Biegun, who is helping prepare Palin for her debate with Sen. Joseph Biden on October 2 in St. Louis, would not say what specific topics the governor was concentrating on in her study sessions.

The question is simple, if the only thing that matters to you in this country is making rich people richer and fighting unnecessary war then you know your choice but if your life and the American people matter at all to you, then this is a no-brainer and you can be as smart as Palin.

This is sick and sad for so many reasons. This lady doesn't know what the Bush doctrine is and wants to go to war over Georgia and she is being debriefed? Even the press is laughing at her. Bring on the debates!!!

I wonder what is being accomplish for Palin not wanting to talk to the media? To me it's just shows that she is scared to answer tough questions. She doesn't have the knowledge how to response to issues that America is facing today. She might be the governor of Alaska but she was sorrounded with corrupt Republicans (stevens) also.

Palin is clueless about world affairs. She'll need our prayers because if we dont ask of God to give her WISDOM, she will plunge the country into chaos. If yuo think Buch/Cheney is bad, she'll be worst.

I need my leader to have an understanding of world affairs and to understand the impacts of all decisions.

I need judgement, vision and patience. She's a great woman, but she doesnt have any of these items at this time.

People are definately uniformed on Obama's record. He was a top studen at Harvard Law School, a state senator for 8 years and has been a US Senator for going on 3 years. He is thoroughly vetted for 2 and 1/2 years. Has been to Iraq and Afghanistan before his world tour and has met with several world leaders as a Senator as well as sitting on the foreign relations committe. He voted Present approximately 120 times but voted up 9or down on a thousand plus issues (not uncommon if you look at all their records). He has has very comprehensive ecomic, healthcare, and education plans fully detailed on his website. If you want to criticize him, at least be informed rather than spewing the Repbulican vomit back out.

The differences between Clinton and Palin are these: he was the longest serving Governor at the time, a Rhodes scholar and had a law degree. She ran a savvy campaign against her own party for Governor after trying out 5 colleges to earn a BACHELOR'S degree in Journalism. Her husband, who is admittedly VERY involved in her policy decisions, had a high school diploma and is a fisherman. Smart , sure. Qualified for VP-hardly. She scares the crap out of me because I can see her urging McCain to push the nucular (does that give you a clue to her IQ?) button because God wants us to do it. After all, she asked her church to pray for the bridge and the nonexistent pipeline, and for the National Guard troops in Iraq while they were protecting us from the 9-11 villains (another sign that she is clueless.)
In this complicated world, advanced degrees and the ability to think through a problem and not just react are vital. Bush's knee-jerk reaction landed us in Iraq. McCain's temper and Palin's temperament will get us into Iran by Jan. 21. We cannot let that happen. It will be the end of the US as we know it.

Obama is non-committal, shows no leadership and is studying for the debates like a professor....being president means having some confidence and knowledge that you can not cram in a few days. Wake up people....OBAMA is a phony, who seems to only advance the principle of "me first" and "me at all costs".....look at who he's run over to get to where he is.....the gaul of deciding he should be president so early in a less than distinguised senate career. Don't compare him to Palin, she is No 2 and he is supposed to be the No 1......I would like to see OBAMA debate PALIN......she would wipe him up....for all his rhetoric, he speaks in annoying 4 word phrases as if he were speaking to children.......should have picked CLINTON blew it.

Again, experience doesnt mean a thing if you do not possess the judgement, vision and patience of a true leader.

Just because you can sit down and take pictures, it doesnt mean you'll be able to handle all the complex problems.

Past records show that Palin has a judgement call of RUSHING through things, this is not going to help in a MAJOR crisis.

Bush to Karzai: Can you please meet Sara
    Karzai: Sara who?
Bush to Karzai: I don't know. Let me check and get back to you in a minute
Bush to Karzai: She is Governor of Alaska
Karzai to Bush: Why does she want to meet me?
Bush to Karzai: Let me check and get back in a minute
Bush to Karzai: She says she can only see Russia but not Afghanistan through her window.
Karzai to Bush: Why does she want to meet me?
Bush to Karzai: Well, you have seen too much of mullah Talibans in your country. She is the American version of Taliban, coming with a lipstick. It might give you comfort that you are not alone in this world fighting Taliban philosophy. Infact she is more backward looking than Taliban as far as women are concerned. She thinks even rape victims shouldn't be given the choice.
Karzai to Bush: Then why don't she meet Putin
Bush to Karzai: Well, we don't pay Putin like you. So we got no leverage. Just between you and me, Putin will instantly recongnize that she is empty just like me.
Karzai to Bush: How do you know that?
Bush to Karzai: When I was busy looking into Putin's soul, he was looking into my brain and he found the secret.
Karzai to Bush: Well, I don't want to see her
Bush to Karzai: It's upto you but that might leave me with no choice but to stop funding your government.
Karzai to Bush: In that case, I shall meet but no talking. Only photos.
