Laura Bush says Palin lacks foreign policy experience

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/24/art.lbush.gi.jpg caption="Laura Bush said she has confidence in Palin."](CNN) - First Lady Laura Bush told CNN Wednesday Sarah Palin lacks experience in foreign policy, but quickly added the Alaska governor is "a very quick study."

Asked by CNN's Zain Verjee if she thought Palin's resume included sufficient foreign policy experience, Bush said, "Of course she doesn't have that."

"You know, that's not been her role," she continued, "But I think she is a very quick study, and fortunately John McCain does have that sort of experience."

The McCain campaign has pointed to Palin's gubernatorial service as head of the Alaska National Guard, part of which is deployed in Iraq, as experience in foreign policy.

But in the interview with CNN, Bush reiterated she has "a lot of confidence" in Palin.

"She's got a lot of really good common sense, and I think that's very important," Bush said. "She also has executive experience from being a governor and a mayor, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to vote for Sarah Palin on the Republican ticket."

Bush also said she agreed with those who have charged Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman.

"I do think there's a little bit of that going on, and I think it's to be expected," she said.

Laura Bush is in New York Wednesday promoting global literacy. She also met with political dissidents from around the world Tuesday, including a Burmese monk.

I always knew that I liked Laura Bush.
It's great to see some Republicans (Chuck Hagel, President Eisenhower's granddaughter) making "sensible comments" about this election.

A bailout without oversight or regulation is kleptocracy, not socialism.

It's sad to say, but Laura Bush has more legitimate foreign police experience than Sarah Palin, and she's never even seen Russia from her window.

Please note that the First Lady says "...I'm thrilled to have the chance to vote for Sarah Palin on the Republican ticket." She didn't say she was GOING to vote for her.

Stop asking candidates for a plan that will quickly get us out of the financial mess!!!!!!!!! There isn't one. This is a stupid question. They should not be expected to provide a plan. We don't know how deep the mess is. Asking them for this is asking them to lie!

I'm so tired of people saying that Palin is being treated unfairly because she's a woman. The RNC played the gender card with their buttons saying she was a "hot chick", so everything is within limits. She's really being treated the way she is because she's unavailable for anything other than canned speeches. People get on Joe Biden for his occasional gaffes, but I'd love to see the number of gaffes she'd make if she were out there making a different speech every day. Oh wait...she only has ONE speech.

We can always rely on Mrs. Bush to tell the truth....like when she defended Mrs. Obama. Yes Laura, we believe, Sarah Palin has no foreign policy or national domestic or energy policy experience to be able to run this country if McLiar croaks! THEY ARE BOTH DANGEROUSLY WRONG FOR AMERICA!

QUICK STUDY ???? Is that good enough for a country in peril with a 72-year old president ? IS THAT GOOD ENOUGH ? Do you want to bet your home on that ? McCain can because he has at least eight of them.

By the way, this 'quick study' went college hopping on six colleges in five years ! And all she brought home was some degree in journalism. QUICK STUDY ? Our next President – not smart, not qualified but a QUICK STUDY ?

That's another term for 'Good Puppet' !

NOT ready to lead, NOT ready for the press, NOT ready to be transparent.
I have to say, I am a little thrown back by Sara Palin. She keeps saying everyday that she wants to bring transparency and reform to Washington. But she does not even have transparency in her own state. She has “instructed” her staff people (who work for her) not to answer subpoenas for the investigation on the trooper case. Citizens of Alaska have inquired about the issue, they want transparency. Now the small case has reached public interest and the rest of the public is now being ignored. Palin is saying that the investigation is now political. But, that happens when you are in office. The other side will ask question and try to shade light on any flaw they see. It is up to her to show that there is nothing to the allegations. If she won’t be transparent on that issue, I don’t think she will be transparent on any serious concerns the American people may have if she gets in office. For undecided voters, she is not being very transparent right now.

Laura Bush is a smart lady, I just hate she is tied to George Bush. I think that everyone needs to stop focusing on Sarah Palin with lack of experience. She did not run for her position. It was handed to her by John McCain. This is the person who needs to be under attack for making such a foolish choice of a running mate.

Laura Bush speaks her mind, I like that. But she should not feel obligated to say that pitbull palin is a quick study.
