Laura Bush says Palin lacks foreign policy experience

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/24/art.lbush.gi.jpg caption="Laura Bush said she has confidence in Palin."](CNN) - First Lady Laura Bush told CNN Wednesday Sarah Palin lacks experience in foreign policy, but quickly added the Alaska governor is "a very quick study."

Asked by CNN's Zain Verjee if she thought Palin's resume included sufficient foreign policy experience, Bush said, "Of course she doesn't have that."

"You know, that's not been her role," she continued, "But I think she is a very quick study, and fortunately John McCain does have that sort of experience."

The McCain campaign has pointed to Palin's gubernatorial service as head of the Alaska National Guard, part of which is deployed in Iraq, as experience in foreign policy.

But in the interview with CNN, Bush reiterated she has "a lot of confidence" in Palin.

"She's got a lot of really good common sense, and I think that's very important," Bush said. "She also has executive experience from being a governor and a mayor, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to vote for Sarah Palin on the Republican ticket."

Bush also said she agreed with those who have charged Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman.

"I do think there's a little bit of that going on, and I think it's to be expected," she said.

Laura Bush is in New York Wednesday promoting global literacy. She also met with political dissidents from around the world Tuesday, including a Burmese monk.

It doesn't take a genius to know that Gov. Palin is lacking in foreign affairs. First Lady Bush said that Palin is a quick study. Yeah, she is a quick study; in being ruthless and going after those who go against her when she is wrong. Better look for a hump in her back when she has her first debate with Biden. They just might try and giver her the answers through an ear piece.

    MORE HEARSAY.

I say PROVE IT. Put her in front of a press conference and let her off the leash...let the press ask her questions and we'll see. Second-hand testimonials from other political figures are COMPLETE CRAP.

THEY HAVE JUST ADMITTED THAT PALIN WAS NOT, IS NOT AND WON'T BE READY TO LEAD. SHE IS MERELY "LEARNING AS SHE GOES."

Oopsy for you Republicans. Send her back when she knows what she's doing and saying.

Gimme a break! This is such a non-story. Any half witted person with a conscience knows that she has no foreign policy experience and understands the risks and consequences of someone like that taking office. The really interesting story would be to do an expose' on why a large proportion of the American public chooses to ignore that fact – is it prejudice, ignorance, apathy, a belief that it just doesn't matter, party political, education, they buy the farsical examples of her "experience" etc.
Rome burns for yet another day .....

CNN, stop desperately looking for a news on Palin. Just report only when there's a substance. We all know Palin does not have a foreign experience. We all know she is a quick study, and a smart lady.

We should stop Palin coverage until the debate. We do not need to watch the same puppet show 100 times.

I am happy that Biden and Obama do not agree all the time. That means they are open and honest. As far as we all know who is the ultimate boss, it is OK to have a different opinion before there's a decision.

  10. GO Palin!

Palin IS qualified! Even the first lady says it!!!

Much more qualified than Barack Hussein Obama and Joe Biden combined!

Some can't take it, as it is too big of a bite to swallow. 🙂

I am so tired of the flip-flopping, hypocrites, blaming everyone, but the current administration.

How is it that Palin doesn't have any experience, but it's ok , because she's a quick study. But, John McCain constantly mentioned Obama has no experience on Foreign Policy, and that is just not acceptable.

Can't remember how many homes he has.
Can't remember how many cars he has, 2 are from foreign makers.
Forgot that also. Sarah Palin could not meet in front of the news people; maybe she should have studied BEFORE setting a meeting. All they showed was her talking about the kids"Oh yeah, did I tell you my teenage daughter is pregnant". " Yeah people are saying it is for a black rapper", "But, we are definitely denying that". She needs to get her domestic policy together!!!!

There is too much attention given to the V.P. candidate. If people are convinced enough by J. McCain' to be the next president, S.Palin will do just fine.

There isn't any "sexism" going on. The McCain group doesn't want her to speak because she is clueless in Alaska! The best accomplishment of Sarah Palin is how old she makes McCain look . On her next speech maybe she will give us her moose stew recipe.

I never thought I'd agree with a Bush, but on this one very rare occasion I do. But no matter how quick a study she may be, foreign affairs is not something you pick up overnight, no matter how many quick briefings you get or world leaders you sit down with for an hour. Of course, Laura's husband also lacked vital foreign policy experience and knowledge, and that's what led us into Iraq, the worst foreign policy blunder in our entire history! All the more reason McCain/Palin must NOT be elected!
