Laura Bush says Palin lacks foreign policy experience

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/24/art.lbush.gi.jpg caption="Laura Bush said she has confidence in Palin."](CNN) - First Lady Laura Bush told CNN Wednesday Sarah Palin lacks experience in foreign policy, but quickly added the Alaska governor is "a very quick study."

Asked by CNN's Zain Verjee if she thought Palin's resume included sufficient foreign policy experience, Bush said, "Of course she doesn't have that."

"You know, that's not been her role," she continued, "But I think she is a very quick study, and fortunately John McCain does have that sort of experience."

The McCain campaign has pointed to Palin's gubernatorial service as head of the Alaska National Guard, part of which is deployed in Iraq, as experience in foreign policy.

But in the interview with CNN, Bush reiterated she has "a lot of confidence" in Palin.

"She's got a lot of really good common sense, and I think that's very important," Bush said. "She also has executive experience from being a governor and a mayor, and I'm thrilled to have the chance to vote for Sarah Palin on the Republican ticket."

Bush also said she agreed with those who have charged Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman.

"I do think there's a little bit of that going on, and I think it's to be expected," she said.

Laura Bush is in New York Wednesday promoting global literacy. She also met with political dissidents from around the world Tuesday, including a Burmese monk.

Lara you are so right, this poor excuse for a vice president is lacking in EVERYTHING!!

If common sense and being a quick learner are the qualifications for being a Vice President then over half of this country qualifies. I want serious leaders, not someone on a learning curve.

I still don't know why Palin and her husband have not been thrown in jail yet and some of you people want her in the White House.
    I just don't get it.

Glad to know Laura Bush is willing to state the facts, based on what's out on Palin's records.

  6. Democrats for McCain

The McCain/Palin ticket balances out very nicely. Tons of experience coming from Palin on Energy, Economics, and governing cities, states and tons of experience coming from McCain on Foreign policy and 20+ years of pivotal Senate issues that have had a huge impact and positive results in Americans lives.

Obama ticket: Columbia graduate with 2.0 GPA/Lawyer/2 years campaigning/99th seniority jr. freshman senator who voted present 130 times.
Biden: Lawyer/30+ years in the bed of Delaware the smallest state in the country and paid for by lobbyists and U.S. taxpayers. Supports segregation and stated that Obama was not ready to lead this country.

i can just see it now – all you libs will be posting the same thing – "oh no, now even laura said Palin has no experience"

Look at the whole answer, she hasnt spent her time as governor focussed on foriegn policy, just like Obama as senator. obama had to do a world tour this year just to prove to us that he has enough foreign policy experience to run for president.

Sarah will charm the pants off any foreign leader. she has the guts and charm to get the job done.

Sarah will be a great VP and then one day President

From the text of the article, the title could have also been "Laura Bush says Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman."

But the way CNN did it – it gives a pro-Obama spin.

And of course this is way more important than commenting on Obama / Biden voting for the Bridge to Nowhere. NOT.

The Obama plan: Get the media in my pocket and push race as a shei. The one, two punch. Then you can get away with slander, lies, anything.

Laura Bush should have been president instead of her husband. She is so much more eloquent and capable of being truthful without being mean.

She absolutely hits the nail on the head regarding Palin's foreign policy experience without being mean about it. Why would a governor need foreign policy experience to govern a state? And is it a crime to not have that experience? How is that type of experience germane to running a state government?

That Palin has no real foreign policy experience isn't a crime at all. Inflating her resume for the sake of an election is criminal.

EVERYBODY knows that she lacks Foreign policy experience. It would only be news if someone was coming forward saying that she does.

She is insulting to the American people.ALL American people.

"Bush also said she agreed with those who have charged Palin is being treated unfairly because she is a woman."

The only person Palin is being treated unfairly by is her own party. They will not let her stand on her own two feet and speak openly to the press. So what if she makes a gaffe? Biden does it all the time. If she was a man she would not be sheltered from the press and she wouldn't be forced to repeat the (basically) same speech over and over. This is not equal treatment.

We all know that Sarah Palin lacks in foreign policy experience and that is even more reason that Senator McCain should not be elected. With the state that the country is in at the present time we don't need Palin being a heart beat away from a 72 year old heart no matter what type of quick study she is. They need to give that treated unfairly a rest because a huge segment of the population is tired of hearing it. If anyone is being treated unfairly it is the American voter because we don't know much about Palin's policy other than what we have been told by the McCain camp – we want to hear from her.

So, i guess all people need is "confidence" to do something. I'll certainly remember that when i'm looking for my next doctor or airplane pilot. I won't be looking at experience, so long as they think they can ill give them a shot.

WAKE UP AMERICA, this pro-ideology driven woman is just spouting off crap. SHUT UP MRS. BUSH, and please find your way back into the whitehouse kitchen.

  19. McCain invented the Black Berry

It is the McCain campaign who are not treating the Lady Palin well..they are being sexist with her, not allowing her to interact with media and let the world know her ..she is being treated like some geisha..delicate, if she can stand on her own how can she defend America and the free world !

Laura please talk some sense into the campaign!
