McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate

(CNN) - McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.

In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.

Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned - but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

Are you kidding me Mccain doesn't want to debate because he is scared and does not know what to say because some of the question are of course going to deal with the economy.

    He is the president

Has he ever heard of multitasking
He is only able to do one thing at a time?

The debate is suppose to run 1hr he does not have an hour to tell the american people what his plans are?

Are the independents suppose to vote base on commercials ?

All McCain and Palin seem to do is cancel things. When are they going to take some questions? If they don't want to truly participate in the election process, then they should just suspend their campaign indefinitely. If he doesn't want to truly run for president, then step aside and let Romney back in. This is ridiculous.

If this was being done by the Obama Campaign, they would be paying hell from all the pundits!

So the real reason behind this suspension comes out. Need a little more studying time, Sarah? Why am I not surprised.

McCain is no hero. He is a coward!
He is afraid to debate Obama and he of course says it would not be patrioatic to debate because of the financial crisis.
McCain does not want to face the American people. He think he and Palin can hide from us till Nov. 4th.
Come on McCoward. Stop hiding from us.

to me, this is a stunt. mccain and palin was in new york for the u.n., so why didn't mccain go to washington instead of going to u.n. now that mccain is finished with palin meeting with the u.n. .leaders he decides to cancel his debate with obama, and wants to put the predident debate on oct 2, 2008 and the vp debate be on another date and we don't when that will happen, i just think its a stunt.

McCain's judgment last week was that the fundamentals of the economy are sound, and now it is so week that we need to stock up our emergency shelters for the coming Mad Max version of America. Thanks for the confidence building Senator! I'll take the guy who understands that the economy is in serious trouble and that serious discussion needs to take place, but the sky is not falling.

A date yet to be determined.... more like never. Nice try! Palin's not going to get out of crashing and burning in the debate that easily!

Hmmm... If McCain can't handle this then he is unfit to be president. If he was that worried about this mess then why did he say that they economy was fundamentaly sound just nine days ago? Why has he pushed finincial industry deregulation his entire time?
How can he really help this problem get solved? All his presence, and Obama's presence as well will do, is just make this a politcal circus instead of getting the job done.
Also, why the move to push back Palin's debate? She hasn't got her answers memorized yet... wait, is answers the right word?
    No McCain!

So that's what this is all about... hiding Palin from the press and the public once again.

We all know they are only staling-- they don't want Palin to be put on the spot and have all the Republicans see what a loser of a candidate they have. Joe will burn her and convert her to ashes.

These people are crazy they are running scared they cant debate because they dont want to talk about the economy. I bet if we was having a big crisis dealin with a attack here or close t this country he would want to debate.

  14. You Wonder Why

You wonder why they are asking to postpone these debates? It's to educate Palin on what she SHOULD already know. Hasn't anyone seen the infamous "Charlie" interview. Palin doesn't know politics outside Alaska and McCain doesn't comprehend anything outside 1960.

I guess the real deal was that Palin was not ready!!.. I mean all that cramming must get her stressed out... I know what it feels like to cram the night before an exam, as a university student.

First they modify the rules for the VP debate, now they want to pospone,.. what is next? This is stunt I hope the American's can see through

I can't believe what I'm seeing. Are people really gonna buy this?
Where was this desire to postpone days ago, when the only thing that was different was his poll standing. And now Palin?

These two aren't ready to debate much less run a country.

Of course. McCain is terrified about Palin debating.

    Nice try.

BTW, McCain has already said he knows nothing about the economy. What good is he going to do in the Senate this week?

Can't he debate and do his job?

I am tired of this horse hockey.

I knew there was something wrong when McCain wanted to postpone the debates. He's not putting country first because of the ecomonic crisis, he's trying to allow for more time so Sarah Palin can prepare for the upcoming debate with Biden. If she isn't allowed to even answer a simple question on her own such as "How did you feel traveling through Ground Zero?" by a reporter thn how in the world will she be able to debate on her own? As an independant I believe this is a ploy on McCain's part because even he now believes she is not prepared to be vice president. His campaign staff can't be standing at her side at the debates telling her how to respond to each question. This move by McCain is nothing but political and has nothing to do with Wall Street and the economy. (If he were that concerned he should have suspended his campain late last week.. not two days before his debate with Obama.) Give me a break!

If Sen. McCain is not at that debate on Friday, I want to know *exactly* – minute by minute – what he's doing to help the economy.

Maybe he'll be buying another house? Or maybe a new German or Japanese car?

Well if McCain can't seem to gather enough courage to stand in front of the American people on Friday, then he needs to suspend his campaign permanently and get out of the race. Give Obama the microphone and let him lay out a plan of direction for this nation. PLEASE AMERICA – SAY NO TO BUSH'S PUPPETS!

What are they so afraid of? And it's sad that they are using the bailout as there reason for postponing both the Presidential and VP debates.

Golly! All of this from the Palin/McCain camp seems so . . . so . . . convenient for them! I truly believe now that there is damage to McCain's cerebral cortex (the area of the brain used for reasoning, memory, etc.). Maybe we would find out about this condition if they would just release ALL of his medical records. But that wouldn't be convenient, would it?

Thank you for true leadership Senator McCain!

Thinking about Obama? Read below to see how his message of "change" and "unity" falls on the deaf ears of his supporters as they resort to personal attacks.
