Polls show McCain, Obama nearly tied in Virginia

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/24/art.polls.gi.jpg caption="McCain holds a very narrow lead in Virginia."](CNN) - A new CNN poll of polls out of Virginia Wednesday shows John McCain with the slimmest of leads in what is a state that has traditionally been considered a safe bet for Republicans.

The latest round of polls could be a clear warning sign for McCain six weeks before Election Day that the Republican presidential nominee still has work to do to lock down certain states that previous GOP nominees had to spend little time or effort doing so.

In the latest poll of polls, the Arizona senator only holds a 1 point lead over Barack Obama (47-46 percent) while 7 percent remain undecided. The poll of polls is an average of three recent surveys of the state.

The Obama campaign has long targeted Virginia as part of their strategy to expand the electoral map, feeling it is virtually impossible for McCain to win the White House if the Illinois senator is victorious in traditionally red states.

Update: The McCain campaign held a conference call with reporters to give their view of recent poll trends Wednesday morning, including polling averages that show tight races in the most crucial battleground states.

Watch for new CNN polls out of Colorado, Montana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin at 4 p.m.!

I don't know what the press is waiting for... people are already voting via abstentee ballot. They can get some hard evidence to show in some post-voting poll evidence now. This show has gotten started – and we are in for a long haul.

I really dont think this is accurate info..We just recieved info on ALL the richmond area news stations that the polls show Obama has a 51% – 45% advantage in the state. The only area McCain had a margin is in the Shenandoah area. Here is the article.....

CBS 6 Exclusive: Obama Widens Lead in Virginia

    Posted: Sep 22, 2008 06:09 PM EDT

In an election for President of the United States in Virginia today, 6 weeks from Election Day, Democrat Barack Obama edges Republican John McCain, 51% to 45%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll CBS 6 WTVR. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released one week ago, Obama is up 1 point; McCain is down 1 point; compared to a SurveyUSA poll two weeks ago, Obama is up 4, McCain is down 4.

Virginia hasn't gone Democratic in the race for president since 1964.

This latest poll shows Obama with a 21 point advantage in Northern Virginia, 10 in Southeast Virginina, and 4 in Central Virginia.

McCain leads by 14 points in the Shenandoah.

Obama leads among younger voters, McCain leads among older voters.

McCain holds 83% of Conservatives. Obama holds 86% of Liberals. But Obama leads by 28 points among Moderates, and on that Virginia battlefield, the contest may be decided.

This race is not going to be a close race. Barrack Obama is going to be the next President of the United State of America. Every signs points to that reality.
Majority of Americans, blacks, latinos, asians, native americans and most especially whites americans are smart and reasonable people who will go to the polls on november the 4th and put the skeptics to shame. They will vote for the better candidate(BARRACK OBAMA).

Frightening. It show that people really do want mediocrity in government when they support a team consisting of an angry, forgetful veteran and a minimally-educated religious fanatic.

All I have to say is WOW !

You Obama supports are sure big on the word ""Lies" these days. A word to the wise; be careful when you start calling true American heroes, "Liars" with such self-righteousness. Its like those self-righteous anti-war protesters in the Vietnam era who got so carried away with being against the war...that they spat on US soldiers coming home from 'Nam.

Lighten up ! Face it, McCain has EARNED our respect.

I personally think that Obama is a good guy. I don't plan on voting for him, but I see a lot of good things that he has to offer. I'm a bit stunned that so many of you Obama supporters are so so self-righteous. Your candidate may win...but you all have acted disgracfully in the process.

The Republicans have run this country into the ground. Any person who can't see this is part of the problem and must share the responsiblity of our children and grandchildren having to pay for the this Republican War and now this Republican financial melt down!

It has also been reported that the White House and Iraq had agreed on an early troop withdrawal timeline. However, the White House came back and asked to delay the withdrawal for another year due to political considerations at home. CNN, why are you not covering the biggest loaded gun in history??? If I had a family member that died in Iraq as a result of this decision, I would sue the pants off the government!!!! CNN probably won't print this because it would adversely affect McCain, but the truth will come out anyway.

This is a very serious issue and Bush and whoever was involved should do jail time.

Despite McCain's disgraceful and insulting campaign, he does seem to change positions repeatedly. McCAIN ALWAYS WAS A POOR STUDENT, A SLOW LEARNER, BUT EVENTUALLY HIS EYES ARE OPENED, HE SEES THE WISDOM OF OBAMA'S JUDGMENT AND HIS POSITIONS, WHICH McCAIN ULTIMATELY PARROTS, AS HE TRIES TO SAY HE'S NOT A REAL REPUBLICAN, AND THAT PALIN IS THE MOST WONDERFUL VP NOMINEE IN U.S. HISTORY.

Maybe McCain and especially Palin aren't ready for prime time, but if Obama's platform is adopted by them on a regular basis, and if they play follow the leader – then PERHAPS OBAMA (and the Democrats) DESERVE THE CONFIDENCE OF THE NATION TOO!

    HEY MIKE........ THE #23 :

First of all, please learn how to spell you candidate's name, its, McCain.

Secondly, Bill Clinton has never endorsed McCain! I don't know what propaganda you are listening to (AM radio no doubt).

And last, most of us voting for Sen. Obama, are voting for him because the Republicans have left us with a DISASTER!

MIKE, let me make a list for you:

    1. As of today, $11.5 TRILLION DOLLARS OF NATIONAL DEBT, OWED TO CHINA.......THE SAUDIS (YOU KNOW THE ONES THAT ATTACK US ON 9/11!) AND DUBAI.

    2. BUSH/CHENEY/MCCAIN & GOP LIED......... LIED TO GET US INTO A WAR WITH IRAQ.

    3. WE ARE STILL SPENDING ..........$1.38 BILLION.......A..........DAY.......IN IRAQ!

    4. SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2008, WE HAVE LOST 600,000 JOBS AND COUNTING.

    5. WALL STREET BANKS AND CEO'S WILL GET THEIR BAIL OUT, WHILE .........MILLIONS........OF HARD WORKING AMERICANS LOSE THEIR HOMES!

    6. THE NUMBER ONE REASON FOR BANKRUPTCY IN OUR NATION IS .......MEDICAL BILLS...... BUT WALL STREET WHO GAVE ITS EMPLOYEES MILLIONS IN BONUSES JUST LAST DECEMBER GET BAILED OUT!

I COULD GO ON .........MIKE........ THESE ARE A FEW REASONS WHY SNE. OBAMA IS BEING SO WIDELY SUPPORTED.

    WE .........ARE............SICK........AND...........TIRED........!

  13. Woman in small town for Obama

Virginia – PLEASE PROTECT AMERICA – VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN! Virginia – you have the fate of the future of America in your hands. Please don't look at race – please think about all of our kids future. We can't keep fighting wars, killing our men and women, and bankrupting our country in war after war. McCain is offering a smokes-screen. CNN reported last night that McCain's economic plans will increase the deficit by 300 Billion, whereas Obama's will increase it by 14 Billion. The math is the math, can't argue with the facts. Obama's tax cuts are higher for those making LESS than $100,000 a year and higher for those making MORE than $250,000. McCain's plans keep giving to the rich and less to the poor.

It's so funny to me to see all the pundits fall all over themselves over states that are close. Guess what? TEXAS isn't going to be red this year either. I know what the "polls" say, but I live in TX and it's nowhere near the blowout Republicans think it's going to be.

  17. VIRGINIA will be blue

In Virginia, we have a democratic governor(Tim Kaine), a great new democratic senator(Jim Webb), and about to elect our former democratic governor(Mark Warner) to the U.S. Senate. I don't understand how some of you people who are not even from VA can comment on what is going to happen in the commonwealth. The more I look around at my fellow virginians, they are ready for change. There are Obama/Biden signs in almost all the front yards I come across. Virginia staying red........Impossible!!!
