WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Bush has asked both Sen. John McCain and Sen. Barack Obama to join him for a meeting at the White House Thursday afternoon to discuss the economic bailout plan, a White House officials said.

"The President called Sen. Obama tonight around 7:30 pm," said Dana Perino, White House press secretary. "The president has invited the bicameral and bipartisan leadership, and the two senators running for president, to the White House tomorrow to work on driving to a bipartisan and timely solution."

Obama's campaign said in a statement that he has accepted the invitation.

"A few moments ago, President Bush called Senator Obama and asked him to attend a meeting in Washington tomorrow, which he agreed to do," the statement said.

"He has said that he will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution."

A McCain adviser said McCain also plans to attend.

- CNN's Elaine Quijano and Dana Bash contributed to this report.

McCain should know all about this financial crisis we are facing since his fingerprints were also all over this nation's last economic crisis with the Savings and Loan crisis in the late 80s. McCain was directly involved in the Keating 5 scandal and was able to wiggle himself out of a federal indictment through some powerful lawyers.

McCain is a fraud and is very dangerous if is allowed to lead this country.

contenders for his job? I can only imagine what they will
    talk about.....

"Uh, sorry guys. Good luck I'll be in Crawford."

  17. @JRT

you guys are so dumb...if there is no bail out of the companies...
(not the executives...I don't care if they all end up in jail)
Then there is going to be a bigger credit problem and stock goes down.... your 401 K will be gone for sure.
and your company owner can't get money to run company or his customer has no money to do business...you you end up jobless...
or you can't get student loan for school...
and when people go jobless or business go under and property price go down....then just think who is paying for tax for federal or local government? and these money are the one that pay for road and service and also pay off bonds (loans) that the government make...
when the county can't pay off bond and go bankcrupt.... then the bonds are worthless... and you know that bonds are the "SAFE" investment the banks use to hash their investment?
it all go puff and everyone goes hunger jobless on the street just like great depression.
So you think this little election will be that important anymore?
Obama vs McCain ?... It will take a long time to go back if America wall street go puff...
    you guys are idots.

Wow unbelievable, this loon Bush helped put the economy where it is today now he thinks he can help resolve it by writing a blank check to wall st, without incentives for the people who are losing their homes, unemployed and we the tax payers are the ones paying for this bail out. Thanks but no thanks McBush!

CNN the way you report the news is a joke..This whole day is a joke! McCain panndered and Palin flopped on CBS. McCain played chicken with Obama and Obama did not blink. McCain is finished!! Report the news instead of always bending over backwards to appear impartial.

Why does BHO need to have a formal invite from the President in order to come out of his debate prep to work on the financial mess that is facing our economy? He is a joke! McCain says Country First and, obviously, means it. BHO postures and does what his handlers tell him to do. He is not ready – he is a poser!!!

I understand that the money is needed to "jumpstart" investor confidence, but that money is going right back into the pockets of the lames that screwed up the first time. The taxpayer will ultimately get screwed by this while Bush and McCain's buddies get rich and laugh at us again. This is madness. His last attempt to pad his partners pockets huh? President Bush is the ultimate hustler

If this was boxing McCain is doing what you would call clenching. He's trying to avoid the knockout blow that Obama would deliver during a debate if the economy was discussed.
