Presidential debate host says they still expect Friday event

(CNN) - The University of Mississippi, site of this year's first presidential debate, released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying the school still expects the event to take place as scheduled Friday evening.

"The University of Mississippi is going forward with the preparation for the debate. We are ready to host the debate, and we expect the debate to occur as planned," read the statement. "At present, the University has received no notification of any change in the timing or venue of the debate. We have been notified by the Commission on Presidential Debates that we are proceeding as scheduled. We will keep you posted as information becomes available."

As a normal American, I think McCain needs to show up and debate.

We have had what, ONE MINUTE of Palin in the real world?

ENOUGH SMOKESCREENS. Progress is being made in Washington as it is, so we do not need to postpone one of the few chances all of America has to see these two debate.

Debate – or lose face. If McCain's campaign can air attack ads within hours of a statement from Obama, then he can show up to the debates and honor the American people and their importance.

Notice McCain was not too busy today to hold a meeting with Corporate CEOs (including the guy who got THIRTY EIGHT MILLION in Golden Parachute bonuses!) and Mitt Roomey about this "finanical crisis". He had PLENTY to say then, so McCain owes at least that to the rest of us.

This is just a play for image purposes and it sickens me.

As it should. Now more than ever, I want to hear what these two have to say.

This is a tactic by McCain to appear "presidential" especially since the trouncing the Wall Street Journal gave him. This also suggests he isn't ready for a debate.
By the way, shouldn't our leaders be able to multi-task? This is pretty weak...

BUT, McCain don't want to debate on Friday. He wants to detract

Ha ha ha! The old man is scared!!! That's too funny!!! What an obvious Bush type tactic!!!

    "My friends,
I'm too dumb to debate this guy, especially over the economic issues but even on foreign policy, so I will just pretend like I'm concerned over the economic down fall so I can get out of it and take a much needed vacation at the same time, SWEET!!! And if Obama doesn't agree then I will say that he doesn't care about the American people! I'm so glad I got this Rove fella is around, he sure can be handy at times!"

    McCain ran away.

    It's as simple as that.

    This "Crises" is manufactured.

We know where the economy has been going for the last two years.

Funny how all this shenanigans takes place right before an election.

They must think we are STOOPID!

Don't let McCain out of the debate. He is just failing behind in the polls on the economy and wants to get in a few washington photo ops and look like he is taking charge to fix the economy. Keep the campaign going and let's have a debate!!!!

Right on ! We need to hear directly from our potential future leader.

I expect a President to multi-task and not to hide in a crowd of senators!

Of course there will be a debate. For McCain to suspend his campaign to the economic crisis is a gimmick. McCain said yesturday that his vote on the bailout bill was not neccessary. McCain deregulated the markets and has not voted on a bill since April. All of a sudden the economy is so important to McCain he wants to vote on the bill. Please. Don't fall for it. McCain is running scared because he is falling behind on the polls.

The debate should go through. I just heard Obama's wonderful statement. He was terrific–I felt really good hearing his comments. McCain hopes to get out of the debate or postpone it so they can cancel the VP debate because the time runs out.

What's the rush? Let's put politics aside for a few days and work on legislation to help the economy. I see Obama is all politics as usual.

  23. Democrats....a party divided....I LOVE IT!!

Of course Obama still wants to debate........otherwise he might actually have to do his JOB..........a voting member of the Senate!!!!!

By the way, Obama hasn't made a decision yet........so don't blame McCain for wanting to do his JOB instead of it being all about him in the spotlight like Obama

Maybe after the election Obama can get a cast member spot on SNL and sing backup for Barbara!!!!!!!!

John McCain is afraid to debate Barack Obama! Republicans are the masters of distraction! This attempt is right out of the Karl Rove play book Mr. Maverick and Americans are not going to stand for it!

I didn’t think it possible, but John McCain has lost the ounce of respect I had left for him! He is exactly like George W. Bush. When Bush dropped in the polls he attempted to distract us with an ORANGE terror alert. John McCain is following suit with this postponement of the presidential campaign. WHAT A JOKE! Do you honestly think the American people are stupid! We see through this ploy!
