(CNN) - The University of Mississippi, site of this year's first presidential debate, released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying the school still expects the event to take place as scheduled Friday evening.

"The University of Mississippi is going forward with the preparation for the debate. We are ready to host the debate, and we expect the debate to occur as planned," read the statement. "At present, the University has received no notification of any change in the timing or venue of the debate. We have been notified by the Commission on Presidential Debates that we are proceeding as scheduled. We will keep you posted as information becomes available."

Why would Obama want to go back to Washington and do his job as a Senator. He hasn't for the past two years. Of course when he actually is in Washington he votes 96% of the time with the democratic majority.

    I like the idea:

Send Biden & Palin to straighten out the republican financial mess.

When McBlame called her to be VP she said she is ready and that she has a map of the world to refer to.

    Debate or Skate!

We have a little more than a month to go before Election Day and McCain want to postpone the debates that will help the American people pick the next President of the United States...

    Thanks Barack, Boo-ya!!

The debate is a go. This is the best time for the next President to talk about what he will do and show his ability to do several things at once, as stated by Barack today and his response the being blind-sided by McCain.

So Obama cares more about running for President than doing the job he was actually elected to do. McCain is right. This is their duty. McCain has no reason to dodge a debate where it is believed he will excell. Obama clearly cares more about his own political future than the well being of million of Americans.

NOW IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT THAT WE CAN USE "EXTRA TIME" for Foreign Politic issues, when the Economic System of the country is at stake.
What happens here is that mr.,McCain has shown that his concerns about this country are deeply rooted and mr.Obama now sees himself outdone. To compare a dabate which could be carried out any time into next week with this EMERGENCY shows that dialectically the Democrats have been beaten.
HONOR: George Washington and Alexander Hamilton the two true patriots that made possible the greatness of America.

    VOTE: Mc.Cain/Pelin

Here we go again...another hail mary to try and shake things up because he can't win on issues. This dude is unbelievable. There's no reason this debate can't still go on. NONE whatsoever. McCain sense that tide comin from the Obama campaign that's all. Joe went for his jugular earlier today and Barack is gone finish him off on Friday.

Obama is going to regret this move. The fact is, if he doesn't vote either way he can avoid committing to a position. Politicians like Obama are part of the problem, not the solution.

Chastise McCain if you want, but how many times have the media said that the senators in DC are looking to Obama and McCain for leadership and guidance here.

McCain is stepping up. Obama is still going forward with getting elected to his next stepping stone- he can't deal with real issue. He likes to be in front of the camera making speeches.

If McCain can't be there because he wants to be in Washington, let him send his Vice President nominee in his place. After all, she is ready, right? Oh, I forgot, no media, now press, no tv, no way, no Palin, no show.

What a dog and pony show Mccain is running!

  17. MarioB. from Berlin FOR OBAMA

this is laughable, McCain had 26 years time to bring some change and to engage in economy-policies, and NOW, two days before the campaign where he is now trailing Obama by growing margins each day, now he's going there to change something...

    No, not with us

    Obama/Biden by landslide

by the way, does anyone know the great movie "wag the dog"? Just watch and look at the financial crisis, well...yeah, just look and think about it 😉

Obama please go ahead with debate

McCain try to run away from answering questions he is not comfortable. Plain is also hostage of McCain campaign as she never wonder around alone. You always she people protecting her.

McCain is another wolf in making like Bush (the biggest terrorist after Osama)

Osama destroyed twin towers but Bush destroyed America. How is that? Still McCain is close in polls..people wake up wake up in real sense it is historical times where we will decide what we want to do with our money..

Clearly this shows who the real Presidential candidate is - the one who cares more about getting our country in the right position than winning a simple election. Get over it, liberals, we all understand that McCain has the credentials.

What job is mccain doing? he has no part in the economics of this country except his vote in the senate. he is not part of the committee's that would be doing the "work". as obama said, they have planes that will get them to the event and back.

why not let his vp pick run the campaign for the few days he wants to take off? let her stand up and act in the place of authority that she will need to be if he dies in the office.

  24. Fishy Smell ... Barracuda ...

So McCAin tried to pull a fast one and claim credit for the IDEA again.

Obama said he called McCain EARLY this morning to suggest they issue a joint statement outlining the foundational principles of the Bailout bill. McCain was supposed to have agreed to do this

McCAin also suggested that he and Obama return to Washington to babysit this process. However, Obama told McCain he didn't think that was necessary but that their two campaigns should discuss it.

Instead, McCain jumps to be the 1st one on TV and tries to force Obama, throug public opinion, to "suspend the campaign & the debate".

In this world of blackberries, cell phones, video conferences and with both of these guys with airplanes at their beck and call, I believe McCain and Obama should be able to multi-task.

Not so sure McCain acted very honorably ... This smells funny.

  25. Clinton Backer Turned Obama

McCain is trying to look Presidential. Since he is losing in the polls he thinks ,or his handler Carl thinks ,he needs to change the way we look at him. Another attempt at scare tactics to put another fraud in the White house. Not having the debate will not change a single thing regarding this crisis. Not giving the American people a chance to see the two candidates side by side in a debate is a way to continue to hide how out of touch McCain really is about everything that matters to those of us who actually live on Main Street. Stop the scam and put on the debate. It's to late to change the crisis outcome with 1 or 2 additional votes for or against the bailout.
