CNN Poll: It's the economy, more than ever

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.mccainecon.ap.jpg caption="A new poll shows the economy is No. 1."]

(CNN) - In what could be a bad sign for John McCain, more voters than ever before this election cycle feel the economy is the most important issue to their vote - a subject on which Barack Obama has consistently held an advantage.

According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll, nearly 6 in 10 registered voters now say the economy is more important than any other issue - a number that is almost a double digit jump from a similar poll taken in July. And it's nearly double the 35 percent of voters who thought the economy was the No. 1 issue in January.

Meanwhile, the issue John McCain is strongest on - Iraq - has steadily declined in importance among voters. In the latest poll only 10 percent of registered voters say it is most important, down from 25 percent who felt it was most important in July.

The poll was conducted September 19-21, entirely after the crisis on Wall Street unfolded. It surveyed 909 registered voters and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

I am sure that the parents of the intelligent voters here are proud. You understand the urgency of our nation and realize we cannot afford another dunce in the white house. Mr. Obama has proven to be quite intelligent and posed young man and as a white senior citizen I will proudly cast my vote for the sensible Obama/Biden ticket.

When will McCain release his complete medical record? I have some military friends who suggests he has bouts of PTSD. That isn't a reason to not vote for him but it would answer a lot of questions. Word around the hill is that he is a loose cannon. He will go off for the smallest reasons and sometimes no reason at all. Imagine that.

I am an Independent and I can not possibly understand why anyone would vote for McCain and Palin. Did anyone see her interview with Katie Couric all I can say is oh my God. The Republicans have been in office for 8 years and look where we are. For those of you that think Obama does not have enough experience, well I take unexperience over stupidity any day of the year. We have to give someone else a chance no way no how no McCain Palin.

The ball is still in Mccain's court though. They are dragging their feet just so they miss the debates, and Barack Obama is going to look bad as the only person there at Ol Miss. while Mccain is still "hard at work" on the negotiations. This is nothing more than political posturing by Mccain at our expense.

For all of those Republicans dismayed by the falling McCain numbers and the four and five point spread, get yourself over to intrade.com, where people vote with their dollars. McCain is getting HAMMERED! There is currently a nearly 15 point spread in Obama's favor. It's one thing to shoot your mouth off on a board, another to put your dollars behind your convictions.

It's over. And McCain knows it.

  14. Look in your neighbors yards

Look in your neighbors yards folks. there are McCain Palin signs everywhere... but WAIT.. the signs are right next to the FOR SALE sign...
This is not a Joke! In coldwater michigan every McCain sign has a for sale sign next to it... coincidence???
Looks like the same sensibilities of those folks and thier pocket books are the ones that ran the government and administration.
AMERICA IS FOR SALE and the republicans LOWERED THE PRICES.
they lower taxes got rid of expensive jobs and brought us nice cheap jobs or even better NO JOBS. Say what you want FOX NEWS fans... you might not like Obama, but you got to admit his signs are just the only thing in the yard for his supports.

McCain does not know if he is coming or going – for all you people that believe that he is capable of putting this country back on track – please take a good hard look at his actions today – This man has no idea of the financial status of this country.

Bin Ladin made it clear, his true objective was to destroy the American economy. These statements were made before the 2004 elections. We as a country have withstood grave terrorist attacks for decades, but have always rebounded. But now we face the greatest terror ever, ourselves. I'm guilty, guilty of being a resident of the South. There is a old saying, the South will rise again, not if we elect McLame and Pal shame.

African-Americans should take full blame. We allow our super star athletes to attend schools who refuse to hire black head coaches, kudus to Mississippi State. A 50'ish white resident of Ohio stated no one in his entourage would ever vote a black man for President, but Ohio State has won numerous of national titles on the arm and legs of African Americans. Texas, a large Republican state, has been given to the Republicans, but here we are facing financial ruin and half of the coast lay in ruins.

LA. has not recovered from Katrina, several African -American males were facing long sentences because of a school fight, but superb Black Athletes choose the state school every year.

Coach Bear Bryant change alot of opinions around 1972 with the game of football, maybe African American athletes can change attitudes by just saying no,

It's a shame, I can play ball for you, generate large amounts of revenue, but someone who looks like me can't be President, go figure??? Obama should be way ahead in this election.

Whatever people we have a democratic congress REMEMBER!!! McCain 08 HILLARY 2012. THE MARKETS will be OKAY. As long as the GOVT does not FORCE banks to lend money to people that can't afford to OWN a house. What ever happened to renting an apartment. People that CAN't and should not own homes should live in apartments.....These people always live beyond their MEANS...THAT IS WHAT GOT US IN THIS BIG MESS......CRISIS...AND BANKS MAKING SHADY LOANS...well average people working for these banks forcing loans on people that did not qualify...

my brother got a LOAN to buy a NEW truck and guess what...he does not even have a JOB....we laughed about it but c'mon in all seriousness...how many loans are out there like his...he only had the truck for 1 yr bc he could NOT make payments....DA DA DA

NOBAMA knows nothing about the ECONOMY remember the flopper he wants to do AWAY with NAFTA but wait maybe that wouild not be a good idea...I think I will keep "some" of it. Geez he is such a true socialist. I really really really wanted Hillary to be the 1st WOMAN president of the U.S.A. AND NOBAMA is getting people to VOTE that HAVE never voted and frankly do NOT know anything I mean ANYTHING about politics. Some of these people think it is a popularity CONTEST.

People it is not the Republican fault for the problems in Wall Street and the economy , both parties are the cause, both the Democrats and the Republicans signed and voted for everything, as a matter of fact the Dems are the majority in the white house and should be blamed more, so don't go blaming the Republicans and McCain, and don't beleive Obama when he said McCain and the Republican are the cause of the economy to crash, he is grabing at this opportunity to fool people who does not know how the senate works.

Barack work, I don't think he knows what that is. I'd love to have his hours! He's at his 'job' about 18% of the time and gets paid for it. I should run for Senate. I could handle about 7 hours a week, get great benefits and a great salary, FOR LIFE!!! We don't need a lazy democratic senator from IL. Another thing, why is Barack so afraid of a townhall meeting type of debate? He could probably hide a ear piece and have his advisers answer all of the questions as he usually does. He won't do it because he has NO PLANS, just a script to read from. Wake up America, it's all about him. He has no plans on how to run this country, he's just a puppet!!
