Palin: Another Great Depression could happen

(CNN) - John McCain’s public position on the state of the nation’s economy has shifted since his early optimism of last week, as the Republican nominee maintains that the country faces its worst economic crisis since World War II.

In a rare television interview, Sarah Palin went a bit further: asked another Great Depression looms if a bailout plan is not approved quickly, Palin told CBS’s Katie Couric: "Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on."

Watch: Is Palin avoiding the media?

McCain later told Couric that although he believes conditions are dire in the nation’s financial markets, he’s not sure "if exactly a depression" would happen. "I don't think we need to scare people, but I do think we need to tell people the truth," he said.

Palin pointed to John McCain’s warnings about the state of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago. She could not point to other instances where he had pushed for stricter oversight. “But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?” asked Couric.

Palin replied. “I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.” Pressed for more specific examples, Palin responded: “I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.”

The interview took place before McCain’s campaign told CNN that the Arizona senator was looking to move the date of the first presidential debate to October 2 – currently slated as the day Palin would face off with Democratic VP nominee Joe Biden.

It wasn't early optimism, it was plain stupidity. The economy has been tanking for months and Sen. McCain with his numerous houses and cars is so out of touch with working America that he didn't notice.

Campaign Hoax. In war there is much smoke. And that’s what the country is facing now. When the fog clears, will we still be blind to the McCain illusion? Bottom line, McCain is CAMPAINING by not campaigning, and he will use this campaign suspension (illusion) in upcoming campaign ads and speeches, along with photos of Palin at the UN.
Bottom line, if you don’t have a substantive record to pull from, then manufacture headlines for future use, and hope people are foolish enough to fall for it. Then, while you’re at it, use Obama’s ideas as your own. Maybe, people won’t notice that you’re doing that either. The only people buying this one are the people rooting for him. His base. For the rest of us McCain is just plan incompetent.
What stands between Politics and George Bush? McCain
Creditable reporting like CNN gets labeled as Left by Fox News, who is totally Right. So why do people listen to Right winged bias media? Because creditable reporters start slanting there honest stories right to appear to be fair, when they already were fair. Making people think that they were being unfair. Don’t slant you stories and headlines right to appear you are fair. Defend your stories and headlines with the content of you report. And if anything, go ahead and start showing Fox as being slanted Right. Point the finger back at them. And you will get some of their viewer back.
Can someone please show how this campaign suspension is a hoax, it is really and new campaign strategy. I mean really, you can’t run a commercial while you are in Washington. Why, because you need to be in all the stations to say I am J.M. and I approve the message. Get real!

Since comments aren't open on the most important ticker of the day...

The VP DEBATE MUST be held on OCTOBER 2nd!!!! I feel like going down to Washington and protesting. This is absurd. Many people are going to be voting by mail soon, and time is too sensitive for delay.

I am disgusted. If the Presidential debate this Friday *must* be rescheduled (rolling eyes), DON'T RESCHEDULE IT SO THAT THE VP DEBATE MUST BE DELAYED AS WELL!!!!

  10. McHoover Would Destroy What's Left of America

The Republicans have lost what little credibility they had left.

This economic issue may be as urgent as Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin say, however no one believes them anymore.

And the suggestion that we should let the fox lead the way to getting chickens back in the hen house is absurd.

Stop doing articles about Palin until she starts talking to the public and the press.

This whole financial crisis thing reminds me of the orange terror alert in 2004 and the hurry up and vote on the Iraq war in 2002. I can't help but think that it's just a ploy for the republicans to keep their power through fear.

Another Great Depression can and will happen if we let this woman anywhere near the White House. I'm beginning to understand why the McCain campaign won't let her speak to reporters.

I'm so not surprised that McCain now wants to "post-pone" the V.P. debate. Here is a clue phone, McCain-Palin, Presidents don't get time outs. We need a President that can multi-task and that is prepared to tackle economic problems and also debate the issues of concern to the American people. If you can't do both in September, you certainly aren't fit to lead this country and take on the responsiblity for four years. There are about 40 days until election, stop stalling. Get to work or get out of the way.

I will take Obama over McSame any day of the week.

She has no idea who mccain was before she became his vp choice and still knows very little of him now and the same goes for him about her.If you notice when palin is asked somethings that she should no and she has no clue on an answer her eyes get to moving like thomas the train. The way things are going with palin-mccain campain something will happen before election day, since they are opposite of each other on certain issues, she might be replaced

Palin may suspend campaign!? What Campaign? Sarah Palin thinks she has entered another beauty contest? McCain has to control her comments. Her claim to fame is that she exposed the corrupt GOP of Alaska and killed the Bridge to Nowhere. If she gets too close to Washington, Sarah will find more corruption and the real Bridge to Nowhere. Now, she predicts another Great Depression! This is a loose canon.

I saw this interview and thought Mrs. Palin was an amateur. She really did not know what she was talking about. Katie had this "Is this for real" look on her face. Has anyone compared this bailout crisis to the movie "Wag the Dog"? I think McCain had better do this debate on Friday, or WE the people will doubt he is ready to be our leader. Surely he realizes that we know he is not the one on the bailout committee. And, you know what? We don't believe President Bush either.
