Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

What a joke this woman is. I mean her words speak for themselves. She's completely clueless! As a woman I'm completely offended that she's running for VP. McCain couldn't find another woman more qualified than Palin? What a joke.

Has Palin ever actually seen Russia? Doubtful.

I live closer to several nuclear plants than she does to Russia. Does that give me experience with nuclear engineering? C'mon, don't be ridiculous.

Why on earth would she want to open that again?!? She had a chance to let it be forgotten, or at least irrelevant. Foot in mouth....

I have a lot of respect for Gov Palin, but she's just not ready. They brought her into the process to late in the campaign, ad it's really beginning to show. Maybe in eight years.

My neighbor is a druggie. Does that make me an expert any drug related topic? NO! Being a neighbor only gives you a reason to say "Hi."

I've heard this a couple times now! it seems that her state's proximity to Russia is her only foreign policy credential.

Wow, this just reinforces the reasons she is such a bad pick for VP. I can't wait to see her debate Biden.

I used to vote Republican, but after these four years I know it's in the best interest of my country to vote against my party, at least in this election. John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin showed extremely bad judgment! I used to think so, but now I know so. Every word that comes out of her mouth is ridiculous. John McCain is trying to pull the wool over our eyes, and I won't have it. I encourage any Republican to take a second look at what's going on, and perhaps change your vote to Obama – no one will know!

I'm actually very saddened by this whole thing. Gov. Palin has clearly demonstrated an inability to think critically and quick on her feet. It seems as though she views the world in black and white. Our foreign relations are so much more than that. Her answers are not those of a politician who can think things through. I'm truly worried for our country if this ticet gets in. She has so much more to learn and is not as quick a study as many made her out to be.

The more she talks, the more worried I become. No wonder she is kept under wraps. Her answers lack depth and knowledge and she sticks to talking points and tries to tailor the questions to fit the talking points no matter how unrelated.

It's truly amazing to me how many people keep sticking up for this foolish. Truly most Americans cannot be that dumb.

Did I really just read that pathetic drival from Sarah Palin? Honestly, a high school kid could put together a better statement than that. This woman has NO IDEA, I repeat NO IDEA, what foreign policy experience even is.

I truly don't understand how anyone with a grain of common sense could believe that this woman has any experience, poiltically, domestically and internationally; to have her on the VP ticket is an utter disgrace to the American people and her mere presence has made this great nation into a laughing stock again. She has not been allowed to be interviewed with foreign dignitaries nor has anyone been able to interview her except for the brief, farsical tid-bits we the American people have been fed to like scraps from a king's table. We deserve better than this, as if eight years of misguided and misdirected leadership hasn't been enough! Obama-Biden 08!!

"Those"? Those what? Spy planes, polar bears, welcome wagons? What?

After hearing Sarah Palin's interview with Katie Couric, I shudder at the thought that John McCain could have picked someone as unqualified as her to be his running mate. This shows a serious lack of judgement on his part.

The country deserves better than Sarah Palin. I heard her mangled the English language, and made me think we don't need another George Bush.

Sarah Palin, the plural of medium is media; not mediums.

This woman is clearly not up to the standard of being VP of the United States of America. She certainly and most definitely cannot represent me.

I pray to God that Barack Obama wins this election so he can help us to regain our standing in the world.
