Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

This female pretender of a Vice-President is so unbelievable about her abilities it is amazing how gullible many in the electorate are about her. When she talks at any rally or interview it is only about general thoughts that anybody with some intellect can produce. She truly is a puppet for the GOP and it would be a tragedy for her to hold any office of responsibility within the Federal government. She is stone cold evidence of John McCain desperation moves to back into the White House and continue the tragedy of the Bush election over the past eight years.

The scarry thing is is this is an example of the judgement this man has, to choose which people he would have with him if, god forbid, he should get into office.

My next door neighbor is an idiot. That doesn't make me an expert on Sarah Palin.

    Should anyone even comment this?

Really? She would have to travel over 4400 miles to visit Moscow.
Putin does not live in Anadyr (capital of Chukotsky Province in Eastern Russia) and probably would take a direct flight from MOW to JFK. Why in the world would he take the long route to visit the USA?
Speaking of Chukotsky does she even know that Roman Abramovich is the governor and should we care?

Only an idiot would vote for McCain because they feel that Palin will strengthen the ticket.

This woman is utterly clueless. Did you see the Couric interview? God forbid she gets anywhere near the White House.

And now we hear that the Banking Committee had reached a substantive agreement until McCain threw a monkey wrench into it for political purposes? He should be tried for treason.

    Whoa. Is that even English?

"That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land — boundary that we have with — Canada."

Maybe it's Russian. They're neighbors, you know.

Well, it's better than nothing, which is all she's got to go on – otherwise they wouldn't even be taking this tack in the first place.

Hmm, the Russian province Alaska is "right over the border" from, Chukotka, is the second least populous in the entire Federation. It has a large population of native peoples, miners of tungsten and coal, and a great deal of reindeer–but no military presence to speak of. And it's about as far away from Moscow as Washington DC is.

Face it, Sarah, your mighty state is staring directly at Russia's elbow.

I have lived in Alaska for 50 years and longer than Sarah Palin. Since Alaska is next to Russia and Canada, I'm more qualified to be the vice president. At the very least, I should get the secy of state job.

Why won't she releas her financial records before the debate?

If she has nothing to hide, why is she hiding?

Why won't shy comply with Troopergate?

If she has nothing to hide, why is she hiding?

Palin, Americas poorest choice for VP ever.

Oh, and have you head about her weird witch hunter pastor? Creepy!

I know that no one really wants to say this because it may seem like a "label" or it may appear "sexist", but I'm going to say it because it truly needs to be said> SHE IS AN IDIOT!! Who would want this dummy to lead them? I don't want such an idiot close to the White House lawn let alone the oval office. How in the world did she get elected to any office at all? What was she running against in Alaska ... a moose? Maybe a dead moose, because if it was breathing, give me the moose. This lady is truly stupid. I mean that!! She is actually stupid ... the websters definition of the word. Stupid!! I'm just being honest here people. I know a lot of you want to say it but can't because you feel it may be morally wrong, but she's stupid. S-T-U-P-I-D. She is actually stupid. What was McCain thinking. I know the republican party is so pissed off right now. There are brilliant people in that party that would have been so much more qaulified to answer these questions. He's stupid too. Yeap, McCain is stupid too.

I guess since I'm from California... I have Foreign Policy Experience with Mexico...

That still does not justify having "foreign policy experience" Mrs Palin. You have none and lets get back to the real issues with the actual candidates.

The Democrats are driving this one. The media as well is making such a deal about Palin having little to none "foreign experience" and she is only going to be holding the VP slot, where I don't hear anything about Obama, who by the way has NO "foreign experience, nor does he have any executive experience, which by the way Palin DOES have. And Obama is running for the "President slot". What is wrong with this picture?

Palin in my opinion is better qualified in all aspects than Obama or Biden!

Being a Hillary Clinton supporter that is voting for McCain/Palin, because I want someone in the "Oval" office that knows what they are doing.

    McCain/Palin 2008

Yes, Russia IS next door to Alaska. I'm glad she reminded us. Over and over. It doesn't mean anything, but she has a good command of that one fact.

I'm waiting for Gov. Palin to say anything meaningful.

McCain and Palin are outgunned intellectually. Can't wait for the debates.

Oh Sarah Palin, is there no cloudy day your comedy stylings can't make sunny? You're a breath of fresh air... America just isn't used to hearing the sorts of things you say.

"It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Someone much smarter (or stupider, maybe) than I will have to translate this for me.
