Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

Somebody please get Beavis and Butthetta out of here! This is turning into a freak show. We have 2 wars going on and all this woman can say about her foreign policy credentials is Russia is close to Alaska?

I am casting my vote for every Democrat tomorrow from Barack all the way down to dog catcher. Prominent Republicans are not standing up and denouncing what their party has become, who their party is represented by.

    Obama/Biden 2008/2012.

Well I see clearly why she is being kept from reporters. It's not sexism, it's stupidity. When she talks, she sounds dumb and makes McCain look like an idiot for choosing her. All I can say is WOW!

“That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land — boundary that we have with — Canada..."

You've GOT to be kidding me?! Either she's so ignorant she believes her own answers, or she thinks the American people are stupid enough to believe them. Either way, it's pathetic and insulting.

Are there no better qualified person in the whole of united state for the nomination as a VP candidate than your so called sarah palin because i can't imagine a yr 1 student of political science answering a question on foreign policy the way your probable VP answered katie couric question wednesday.I can't believe Americans are as dumb as this.

  10. Palin is Incompetent and Unfit

For anyone who saw Palin speaking today, you should be running in the opposite direction. She again actually said she thinks she has foreign policy experience because Russia near Alaska!! She is an incompetent moron and has never been a viable VP candidate. McCain chose a total idiot for VP. As sick and old as McCain is the thought of this stupid woman as that close to the most powerful position in this world is terrifying. Oh and by the way – I thought McCain had suspended his campaign. Big surprise – he lied again! McCain did interviews today and ran TV ads in battleground states. He didn't suspend anything except his judgment. He is unfit for office and his VP pick is completely unqualiified and unprepared to do anything outside of her mooseville world. McCain and Palin are a joke and a disgrace. Obama and Biden are the real leaders with ethics, character, and with responsible solutions to start this nation on its path to recovery. Suspend your candidacy McCain – you have been caught in the worst kind of political stunt and voters everywhere are outraged. Don't show up at the debate. You are totally irrelevant to the future of this nation. Tomorrow night we can listen to Obama for 2 hours at the debate and you can stay in Washington causing problems for the team who had a solution until you showed up. You are not a leader, You are an opportunist who will do anything to win. You are too old to understand the future and what we need. Just pick one of your 9 homes and pick one of your 6 non-American-made cars to take you there to retire. Obama/Biden all the way!

OMG!!! I actually felt bad for Palin in that interview with Couric. She is way in over her head. McCain should suspend his campaign until November 5th.......

I just wrote a lengthy comment, but deleted it. It isn't worth it. Anyone who knows a thing about foreign policy knows that this is the most horrifying joke since "Mission Accomplished". Anyone who hasn't already figured that out isn't going to in the next few weeks.

Wow, if that's foreign policy experience I have more than she does. I use to live 15 minutes from the mexican border. Hell John McCain could have pick me for V.P.

When you believe the Earth is 6,000 years old, when you believe witches are a personal threat to you, and when you believe that being mayor of a small town qualifies you to be president of the United States, I suppose it's not a huge leap to believe that living a thousand miles from an uninhabited corner of Siberia gives you foreign policy expertise.

There is no greater possible preparation for leading the United States through the complex and dangerous maze that is foreign policy then the prestegious:

  21. John McShame

More of the same from John McShame

John McLame says, “I don’t know much about the economy, I still need to be educated”

“It would be acceptable if we had to stay in Iraq for another 100 years.”

We need to “bomb, bomb, and bomb Iran”

“I have voted with Bush 90% of the time because he has been right 90% of the time”

    Sarah Failin says,
“I have foreign policy experience because you can see Russia from Alaska and I went to Mexico on vacation once.”

“I welcome any investigation into my past because I have nothing to hide, oh never mind I will not meet with any investigators for any reason ever.”

She believes the Bush Doctrine is a “World View” hahaha

She says she said “No Thanks” for the Bridge to nowhere when she was actually the one who got it approved

She says we may have to go to war WITH RUSSIA

She decreased her own responsibilities when she was the mayor of a town small enough to be run by a fifth grader

Hey McLame… You might be able to hide Palin from the people and the press because she is too incompetent to answer any questions BUT YOU…YOU CAN”T HIDE FOREVER sooner or later the debate WILL happen and you will have nowhere to hide!

Reading this just makes me want to scream! Being the governor of a state that borders another country has no bearing on any meaningful foreign policy experience!! The fact that she continues to present this a valid argument is SCARY. In addition to the fact that the portion of Russia anywhere near Alaska is a barren ice wasteland with virtually no inhabitants- she refused to answer the basic question regarding whether or not she personally has engaged in any negotiations,. trade missions, national security issues, or ANYTHING. And anyone who believes this this nonsense as valid should give up their US citizenship!!!

You know what, if it wasn't for the fact that I love this country too much to leave it................I almost wish McCain/Palin would win this election so yall can see exactly where they put us four years from now (it would never be 8)!!!

I don't know if its scarier that they may be in office, or scarier that Americans (and I don't care where your from) buy into this crap!!
