Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.
The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.
“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.
The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.
“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."
Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

I notice that Palin didn't say that she had anything to do with those swapped trade missions or military spy missions. But why would she need to be part of the action to take credit for it?
She is definately McCain's VP..
Imagine for a second, if you would, if Biden claimed that he obviously had foriegn affairs qualifications because he is just a moat away from France, England, Italy, Morocco, Norway, Finland, Scotland, Ireland, etc... What would people say if Biden had a unwed daughter in the family way? What would McCain be saying if Obama was shielding Biden for any and all competent news media and just let in the voiceboxes of the Democratic party? (and yes that was a rip on Fox, and I do watch them from time to time just to see if it is 'fair and balanced' usually all I can handle is 30 seconds).
All I can say is this,
if McCain and Palin win, that we will weap what we sow and we will WEEP!
If you believe in a Just and Good God, Pray that Obama and Biden win.
And if you don't then that is ok too.

Does the USA really allow Russian military planes to do fly overs over Alaska or do they turn back, most of the time, before they hit American airspace?

I grew up in Germany as an Army brat, but it doesn't make me an expert in foreign policy. we were next door to the communists at that time but like i said it doesn't make me a VP candidate with foreign policy knowledge.

Why doesn't the media dissect every stammer out of Obama's mouth?
Is it because it is racist to criticize a half black man for all his inexperience, gaffes and blunders?

It's true that Alaska shares an international border with Alaska, and it is also true that, as Gov. Palin claims, you can see Russia from Alaska if you happen to be standing on Little Diomedes island, a barren and uninhabitable rock in the Bering strait, looking across a 2 mile wide channel to Big Diomedes island, another uninhabitable rock that happens to belong to Russia. Otherwise, a minimum of 58 miles separates the Russian and Alaskan mainlands. Never mind that these are some of the most sparsely populated regions on earth. From her home in Wasilla or her office in Juneau, Gov. Palin is approximately 1,500 miles from the Russian border. However, she's only a short distance to Canada in either location- but it is odd how that never comes up as a foreign policy credential. Does Gov. Palin know Canada is a foreign country? Has anybody every asked Gov. Palin if she has actually ever seen Russia from her home state? Has she ever met or interacted with a Russian official as part of her gubernatorial duties. I can look up in the sky from my backyard and see the moon, but I can't claim to be an Apollo astronaut.
hahaha what a joke...Republicans must think Americans are stupid. Mccain is a old fart, Palin is an empty blouse = unstable/unable. Obama has my vote.

I was raised in Washington State, 80 miles from the Canadian border. I think I'll run for President. After all, I know how to spell the word Canada.
Sarah is so Pale in substance. The more she speaks the more people see how not ready she is. I think she got to where she is because she is gorgeous. Looks do matter.
I would like to hear from Palin herself and not a spoke person, just because a state border a foregin Country does not mean that the Govner of the State know foregin policy. Palin has the looks of a pretty woman but this is not a pegant this is for the number two spot of the USA. show boating will not blind side me with a vote for Palin and McCain. As a former police office, a miltary vet and a scoocer dad, who are looking to put my child through college, I need more to cast my vote, it look like Obama will get my vote.

Wow. None of that makes any sense. As an international relations expert, it is certainly clear to me that Palin has absolutely no knowledge of foreign policy, not even the basic knowledge that can be obtained from viewing a few hours of news broadcast.
Sarah Palin is way cool.

I really understand what Sarah Pallin means. I am from Florida, which is right across from Cuba, the Bahamas, Haiti, The Dominican Republic; plus Florida shares the Golf of Mexico with many other countries. All of these countries are a closer distance to Florida than the distance between Florida and California, or Boston, or Michigan, etc. So, not that i want to be VP or anything, but I have more international experience than Pallin as far as proximity to other countries go. Oh, I forgot Venezuela.
GOV Palin is a SMART Woman. SHE would be Great on the Team.

All decisions made about the military in Alaksa when it comes to defending our airspace are made by the military commanders who mastly hang out in NORAD. She has nothing to do with it.

She can't define the "Bush Doctrine", explain the current financial crisis, has no foreign issue experience by any measure, doesn't know when she supported and then didn't support the bridge to nowhere (the $$$ is where ?) and after reviewing a number of interviews and statements can't put a complete, intelligent, thought process together to even begin to seem Vice-Presidential.

Sara Palin needs to quit dancing around the foriegn policy question and just say "I don't know" because she really doesn't know. There is more dancing when she is asked a question than there is on Dancing With The Stars. What kind of expierence does she have to lead, there is probably more people in Obama community programs than there is in her entire state. Which by the way she is under investigation for firing the states top cop illegally. I know citizens of my state wont let our gov. get away with anything like that. Ready to be president, try being a wife and mother first. So please just answer the questions truthfully or is that to hard, or is she taking pointers from John Mccain.
I still don't see this foreign policy experience. Why is it that she bever directly answers a question; she eludes to it, yet repeats some useless rhetoric? I am just waiting to hear a genuine expression, maybe is she sat with more mainstream media outlets, on a show where she isnt necessarily speaking solely politics...maybe she'd loosen up and say something with substance. I know there's an opening on 'The View'..maybe, she can talk about something that'll come more naturallly, instead of repeating the same ole "Thanks, but no thanks" line to every issue in American policy
Oh my gosh, tonights Couric interview was even worse than last night! Are you serious people...are you seriously supporting the fact that this woman is qualified for the VP role and could step into the presidency. Amerika is confusing professional campaigning- that Obama does better than anyone else- for actual experience.
Sarah is AS good as Obama- that is the problem- Obama is running for POTUS with no better credentials- less actually, than Sarah.
