Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

Good Grief! You would think she'd learn that the American people aren't going to buy that line. Many states border another country (Canada or Mexico). Look where that got us with Bush! Trade missions don't mean squat. Even Jesse Ventura went on trade missions when he was governor of MN.

What an idiot. I've never seen anyone so politically stupid in my life AND for it to be so obvious. No wonder why they're covering her up from the media and reporters. And I thought Bush was stupid ... she makes Bush look like a genius.

This of course makes most of us in the southwest experts on foreign policy because we're so near to Mexico.

Blah, Blah, Blah, is this the best Palin can do in an interview? If so there is no way McCain and Palin are going to represent the USA on the world stage in a respective manner. At least the Democratic ticket can make it through an interview with the news media without stumbling all over their words.

Was for McCain/Palin ticket, will be voting for the Democrats in 08!

Girl, you have to let this one go.
Being close to Russia will not give you the required foreign policy experience.

See, George W was close to George senior all his life, he never got to be good president even after being INSIDE the White House for 7+years, he's still the big trash he came in as.

Sweetheart it really just doesn't work like that, we wont buy this argument.
No way, No How, No Palin. Thanks but no thanks!

This was another of McSames's lack of judgment. Palin is the most inept individual that could be vp of U.S. that I have ever heard. She is vp to a 72 yr old man with a history of melanoma cancer. It is shocking to think that she could be pres (if McSame wins). She is uninformed, and not knowledgeable on any level of government. She is ready to lead ?? It is obvious she knows nothing about important matters. If it wasn't so serious, it would be laughable, because she is a JOKE. no mcsame, no plain.

Holy mackerel. And this person is an old, tired, cancer-ridden man's heartbeat from being PRESIDENT???!!!!

People, you need to do some serious thinking about supporting the McCain/Palin ticket. Do you REALLY want to role them dice?

I can't wait until Nov.4, I am soooooo tired of Sara Palin. She really is the hockey mom from the disney movie Matt Damon spoke of. If Russia is so close to Alaska why has she never been there, or Canada for that matter. I am sorry but she is simply not ready to be vice president of this country, the PTA maybe, American NO!!!!!!!!!!

Can we invite you to the Debate tomorrow night with Obama? As you are ready to be in charge in the crisis when President is not available, you are willing to do so tomorrow?

Even better, the topic is foreign policy. I would like to see which one, Obama or Palin, will show his / her judgment about foreign policies.

Let me get this straight, SHE IS STILL LIAR. SHE DOES NOT DISPATCH OR NEGOTIATE A DARN THING WITH RUSSIA. SHE HAD NOT MET WITH ANY OFFICIALS OF OTHER COUNTRIES BEFORE THIS WEEK, SO EXACTLY HOW WAS SHE INVOLVED IN NEGOTIATIONS. COME ON AMERICA, SHE IS A JOURNALISTIC BEAUTY QUEEN WHO HAS BEEN RUNNING FROM THE MEDIA AND SAID SOME OF THE MOST IDIOTIC THINGS AGAIN TODAY. LIKE HOW SHE WANTS EVERY STUDENT AND AMERICAN TO SEE GROUND ZERO IN NEW YORK. HEY HAS SHE FIGURED OUT PEOPLE CAN NOT AFFORD GAS TO WORK, THAT IS IF THEY HAVE A JOB. IS SHE OUT OF TOUCH. DID SHE GO THERE BEFORE NOW ON HER OWN DIME, OR HAS IT JUST BEEN ON THE TAXPAYERS, IS SHE GOING TO PAY FOR AMERICA TO GO TO NEW YORK. D##BA$$!!

I thought that Palin was fully equipped in having her foreign policy credentials? That would be something that Biden needs to debate about because it does not seem as if Palin knows about foreign leaders, being that she was not allowed to talk to reporters!! She would probably hate for everyone to find out how inexperienced she is when it comes to foreign leaders.

I live within a few hundred miles of a coal mines and steel mills, much closer than Palin is to the tip of some uninhabited piece of Russian tundra, and so I'm an expert on coal and steel... NOT

Karl Rove always counted on Americans to be shallow and stupid. His republican disciples running the McCain?palin campaign are betting on it one last time.

They have nothing else (oh except that Obama's name and background "sounds" like it might not be "American", wink, wink). These republican operatives and Bush operation vets, now running McCain's operation, are lower than low.

"They're in the state that I am the executive of"?? I thought she had a college degree in journalism. And what the heck does "in the state" mean in regard to Russia? And Putin "rears his head"??? Holy cow, she's another Bush.

That interview was painful to watch – and I'm a Democrat. There is NO WAY that woman should be in the same time zone with the White House.

Good heavens – why isn't Obama ahead by 30 points? If there are any PUMAs eft, I'll bet they're real proud of their choice. LOL
