Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

  1. Obama 2008

I did some research for the previous posters, because they accidentally did not think about what they wrote.

    Foreign Experience:

    Obama:
"As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama has made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa."

    Biden:
"Biden is also a long-time member and current chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. In 1997, he became the ranking minority member and chaired the committee from June 2001 through 2003."

Source: Wikipedia (And there is a lot more. Go read it yourself.)

Oh and some lady named Palin: "Russia's my next door neighbor!"

  2. Voting for Obama now

OMG! The sad and frightening part is that she is serious. You could blame her coaches, but that would be sexist. She has a brain of her own, however underutilized.

  5. Palin is Terrifying

Are you kidding me? She said it AGAIN today to Katie Couric – she actually believes she has foreign policy experience because Alaska is near Russia and Canada and then said..."and they are foreign countries". This woman is a complete idiot and should immediately be shipped back to her land of cluelessness and corruption. McCain has really lost his mind to think this woman could actually be VP!

The scariest thought is that many across this country refuse to believe what they are hearing coming out of her mouth to admit that she is a lame duck like McShame.

It is unfortunate that people just look at her family life or her appearance as a reason to vote for the republican ticket. Don't be a sucker.

Since her grasp of even the English language seems to be tenuous, at best, I wonder if Palin can even say "Hello" or "Goodbye" in Russian? Katie should have asked her that... I'm in Pennsylvania and took three semesters of Russian in high school and college, and they aren't even my neighbors.

    Here's Gov. McCain's plan.

Nominate Sarah Palin as VP, Get the women of America to vote for her. Win the election, Sarah Palin resigns, and he appoint whom ever he wants and the women of America is none the wiser. How About That and the joke is on all you women who fell for the BS!!!!

Palin will never get my vote.

If Americans make the mistake of voting for the McCain-Palin ticket, the United States will have moved many steps backward than we would have moved forward with the Obama-Biden ticket. Sarah Palin may have some "style" but she certainly lacks the substance that should give her the right to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
    Obama all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

redwhiteblue: her other line is I said thanks, but no thanks.

She is rather touched isn't she. Guess that's why McCain wants to cancel the debate, he know's she will put her foot so far in her mouth that they wont be able to fix it. If you can't hang with the big dogs you need to go back to Alaska.

I told someone at work I hope Biden rips her a new one, but guess that wont be happening.

Are you surprised! She accepted the VP position without blinking. Her cockiness and zingers mask her acute knowledge deficit in both national and foreign affairs. Thanks McCain for putting country first.

Sarah, let us know when Putin fly's over Alaska again! I understand that all she talked about with the president of Afghanistan was his new baby so why would she tell us that she spoke of defense issues with him?

I think this is just another Sarah lie!

Let's make like Sarah Palin and get the puck outa' here! What's scarier than her foreign policy background is her religious beliefs and her (supposed) desire to ban certain books from the public library. Let's face it folks, McBomb & Gov. Plain are locked arm-in-arm, goose-stepping into the sunset. Time for a nap John.

    @ella and messiahobama
Obama has never said he has foreign policy becuase he lived in indonesia, he said he has experienced various cultures due to that part of his life. It is not Sen. Obama's fault or his supporters that Sen. McCain chose her and she is having some serious difficulty stating her and Sen. McCain's policies/experience. At this point when you attack Obama instead of confirming the obvious you look scared/childish. Palin is a great lady but there is a real possibilty that she is not ready for this role.
