Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

WE ALREADY KNOW RUSSIA IS NEXT TO ALASKA. Do you have anything else to say?

I can't wait to see Biden debate her. Oh boy.

I can't believe Palin is allowed to give answers like this and no one cares. I mean, how dumb does she have to appear before people (on both sides) decide she is just not ready for this? It makes me feel ashamed of Americans.

And there are still people who will vote for this idiot – please explain how she can be a heartbeat away from the Presidency and you can be comfortable with that thought?

John McCain lost my respect in this choice – very poor judgement and not Country First. He obviously put politics first.

I can only pray they don't make it into the whitehouse.

I love how so many are mocking this, but if you think about it, given our history with Russia and the all-too-recent Cold War, it's very important for the Governor of Alaska to maintain impeccably up-to-date with anything going on there. Because, as this post states, Alaska is a very large and very important border to keep an eye on.

So does that make Gov. Charlie Christ ready for Sec. of State down here in FL? Cuba is only 90 miles away and they don't like us either.

How many Russian invasions have you guarded us against Palin? GOP zealots have to be soft in the head to defend these credentials.

Please be aware that Palin could not even answer these questions without note cards, to which she repeatedly had to refer. And she continues to duck questions–she was asked if she had engaged in negotiations with Russia and said "we have trade missions." Was she ever involved in them? Did they have anything to do with politics?

    Sarah Palin is frighteningly unqualified.

Governor Palin, please stop. Proximity does not translate into knowledge and experience and your answers keep making this painfully clear.

  13. Good God!!

Good God John McCain made a very big mistake picking Sara Palin. How anyone can believe that she is ready to be No. 2 is beyond me. I know a lot of people want to see a woman in the white house and to some degree so do I but sorry it's not Sara Palin.

We need to stop his American Idol type of election and get to this issues with her and stop trying to postpone the debates that just a tactic to keep her away from the Amerian public because J. McCain knows he wanted to pick Liberman but was forced to pick Palin.

It amazes me that everything that Palin has "accomplished" as Mayor and Governor is a fabrication except for the EARMARKS AND LOBBYISTS AND THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE.
She also gave a huge government contract to a FRIEND and then hired a LOBBYIST to make sure the contract went through.

BLAH.BLAH..BLAH..that is all she knows what to say....To all men and woman of America...she is not qualified to be VP...she has no idea on how to handle foreign and domestic affairs...she should have been prepared by now....she even made a mistake indicating that former State Secretary Kissinger would not speak to Iran at all...he is for diplomatic talks with Iran leaders/President...I watched the CNN show this past Sunday indicating this and Katie Couric confirmed...This VP pick would be dangerous for America...

    No she didn't...

    I just...

    I mean she...

Listen girl...just because we may have a post on the tip of Alaska checking out Russia does not mean that you command it, know what they are doing, speak to them, or anything and it certainly does not lend itself to Foreign POLICY experience. Just because a restaurant is a stones throw from my house does not mean i know anything about the zoning regulations and the fire safety procedures and all of the health codes required to keep the restaurant open. In this day and age, it's ok to say you're right, I don't know...or even I didn't know. Shock us with the fact that you came in with no knowledge and then show us all of the things that you have had to learn in a short amount of time and make that the thing that perks our attnetion. Stop trying to prove you already have it. It's not very becoming...

You have got to be kidding me. This is her knowledge of Foreign Policy? I went to Saudi Arabia for 2 weeks to see my father who worked in Big Oil for the country. Does that make me qualified to do foreign policy and energy issues? Not hardly, but it sure sounds like I have more to give the country than she does.
Time to go back to Alaska and gaze on your neighbors with a pair of binoculars, Caribou Barbie

You CAN'T be serious!! Does she really expect people to buy that??! As for meeting with the foreign dignitaries in N.Y., all that was for was photo ops, talking about Karzai's infant son, and foreign leaders telling her she's gorgeous and wanting to give her a hug! Nothing that would boost her national security and foreign policy credentials there.

Hey guys, I live next to an airport, and I can hear when planes take off. That means that I have aviation experience, right?

She is so dumb, and somehow the campaign advisors haven't told her that talking about Russia's proximity to Alaska in the same context as Foreign Policy makes her seem pathetic.

err, wait. Keep on keepin' on Palin. Can't wait for that debate next Thursday...

    September 25, 2008 07:58 pm at 7:58 pm |

What in the world is she talking about? There is no way she is qualified to be VP ... and to think that she is one heart beat away from being President. WOW!!!
