Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

I'm simply speechless. She gives new meaning to the word 'stupid'. This would be funny if it wasn't so serious. I don't know whether to laugh my a– off or cry. How did we get into this mess with McCain/Palin? This is the best the Republicans had to offer the Country? God Help Us.

When you realize that you have dug yourself in a hole, you should not keep on digging. This woman makes me very nervous, and keeps on making it very hard for me to support John McCain.

Obamaites please recall that during the primaries your savior named his childhood days in Indonesia as his most formative foreign policy experience. He was there from something like ages 6-10.

Oh, and that was before he talked about visiting 57 states of our USA . It also predated his reference to his grandmother as "a typical white person" who feared black men. A bigoted remark it there ever was one. Such a sentiment almost certainly would have driven a white candidate out of the presidential race. However, it was virtually ignored by Obama's fawning jounalistic entourage.

The McCain camp definitely needs to keep Sarah Palin away from reporters because she stinks. She does not know anything about anything. Being a next neighbor to a foreign country does not give you any foreign policy experience, it makes you just a neighbor. No wonder why the McCain camp is trying to postpone the vice presidential debate by postponing the presidential debate. The fact of the matter is Palin can not handle a fierce debate. She is just incompetent.

Governor Palin continues to demonstrate that she is very articulate, smart and experienced. Katies Couric's simpeeing attempt to sneer at Palin just shows how the major networks have a very slanted pro-Obama agenda. Fair and objective journalism is dead and the voters have seen it. It is a backhanded favor to McCain and Palin.

This woman is utterly clueless. Did you see the Couric interview? God forbid she gets anywhere near the White House.

And now we hear that the Banking Committee had reached a substantive agreement until McCain threw a monkey wrench into it for political purposes? He should be tried for treason.

My God, Sarah Palin is dumb! How can she be in charge of anything? Also what is wrong with McCain? I know he is desperate but to pick her....It is hysterical, the woman is stupid as stupid is! WOW! I dont think Kathie Couric has ever had to interview anyone as stupid.

When ever I see ms. Palen , I smile to myself. This woman is not qualified for this position. If some thing happened to Mr. McCain, if he was elected, this woman would be in charge of our country. You all need to think about this.

  18. let's take our country back

    Well let's see...

I drove today, does that qualify to be Sec of Transportation
I saw Lake Michigan, does that make me Sec. of the Navy
I had French toast this morning, so that OBVIOUSLY gives me foreign policy experience.

She has no business in this race and I find it sad that her name is even being mentioned in the same sentence as McCain, Obama or Biden. She doesn't even measure up to their ankles! And no, I'm not sexist, I'm just allergic to BS.

I am sure Sarah Palin is a nice person. I feel bad for her though as she is a pawn in McCain's push for the White House. She is not allowed to speak her mind, she is forced to speak from a script. She cannot talk to the press when I have heard that she had a descent rapport with the press in Alaska. I wonder if she signed up for this when she said she would join the ticket? This has to be frustrating.

    Problems with her answer:

Most of the Russian Population does not live in Northern Russia (aka Siberia). In fact the region where she lives near, Chukotka, only has a population of 55,000. And only half of those are Russians.

Some 112 million of Russia 's 147 million people (78%) live in European Russia near Moscow and St. Petersburg. This is where all the politcal action is as well.

Chukotka is 58 miles from the Alaska. I really doubt she can see it from her backyard.

And as someone else pointed out, governors do not respond to incursions into US air space, the US Air command does.

So she is either stupid or a liar.

Dear heavens, she's even dumber and less coherent than Bush, and I didn't think that was possible.

Your first executive decision as a proto-President, McCain, and you blew it spectacularly.

  25. No to Palin

At first I thought she was speaking in the style of "Pennsylvania Dutch" that reverses the sentences such as: "Up the stairs I go".

But the more I read what she says...ugh!

She may be smart but the way she speaks makes her sound very uneducated! She does have a college degree, right?

How will she come across to the rest ot he world if she has to deal with foreign dignitaries!

They would need a translater from Palinese to English!
