Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

Well – in Washington state, we can see Canada. In fact, we can visit Canada often. That makes all WA state residents more qualified than Palin. She has not visited Russia.

Ok has Putin ever, even once, been to Alaska? I know when he "rears his head" and comes into our "air space" it is usually in Washington, DC. He did come to Texas too. I guess since I live there – I must have a much greater understanding of Russia since Putin has actually entered my "air space". I really have to wonder about the "air space" between her ears.

I grew up in New York. City I had hispanic friends, asian friends, canadian friends, friends from Europe, friends from Africa. I think makes me more qualified in "actual" foreign relations than Palin.

McCain you are a selfish, self-righteous narcissist. I just watched Palin's interview on CBS. She is NOT READY to be President and YOU KNOW IT! I admire her determination, and I would love to vote for a woman. But you ARE PUTTING OUR COUNTRY AT RISK. She is not ready, she's not ready.

I live near a community swimming pool, so I must be Michael Phelps. I also live near some great restaurants, so I must be a chef too. And to top it all off, I live just a couple blocks away from an investment bank, so I've been making billions for the last 5 years!

What the hell do the Republican's think is going on here? This is a Presidential election not a Circus. They keep sending in the Clown's and nobody's laughing.

I really feel sorry for them if Palin-McCain is the best they can do.

She is still talking that I can see Alaska from . . . Later Katie asked her a question about McCain and she attempted to answer it twice before saying, " I'll get back to you." What the feasy? Is this a game of concentration or a race for the President of the USA?

If I only had a brain. Yep that is Palin. Palin makes a mockery of the election and the process. I wonder if the reset button of McCain is to replace her.

some of you have gotten off topic, but if anyone possibly thinks they can defend this woman as a serious qualified candidate you are still celebrating at the rnc with your stupid elephant hats. i feel sorry for the woman, because McCain used her. he used her family, and her state to boost his campaign. McCain is nothing more than a pimp. 2 months ago no one new her she was living in alaska in her smalltown monopolizing her smalltown polotics, and then got thrown to the wolves, and not just the 30 that mythologically air dropped into alaska. no wonder she was sheltered, and now that the lipstick toting pitbull is off the leash everyone sees her bark is far worse than her bite.
