Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

May God help us........ths woman can not become our VP............Let's make sure we do NOT elect a man that would choose such an inexpereinced, not thoughtful candidate. Refreshing to hear Clinton (Bill) say that he does not have all the answers. He has the sense to know we all blink – and should.

These type of remarks are very telling. After seeing the Palin witchcraft video and knowing that these far extreme religious are way different than the rest of us Christians it seems she is being consistent with her church's teachings that Armegedon is around the corner and she will be in a position to set it off. Russia is a nuclear power, Sara. Why on earth do you need to portray them as our enemy and where are you going to find the money to fund these new wars with the current ones leading us into so much debt that hurts our economy? Republicans are playing the fear card again. Will it work three times in a row? Stay tuned.

I know a man from the Air Force that was stationed in Alaska. And many times they would be scrambled to fend off the Russian air force. or spy planes.

This was when the cold war was on , before Palins time. So she needs to keep an eye on Russia and it does help her in the foreign affairs question.

    If you were not in the Air Force or are not up on daily events that take place in Alaska. then don't try to out guess the enemy {Russia }

Has anybody else thought about the simple fact that Alaska is not the only state that borders Canada? By my count there are 10 other states that share a border with Canada... so I guess this means that these 10 governors are just as well qualified with foriegn policy because Canada is a major threat to our national security!

It's just as ridiculous as my friend in downtown Cincinnati saying she can see Kentucky from her deck, so she knows how to grow tobacco...Sad, scary, and true that so many buy into this home grown baloney!
I want a president, not someone to have a beer with!

It's like that scene in "Ms. Congeniality" when they asked the contestant "Describe your perfect date." and she said April 23 because it's not so cold and it's not too warm. LOL!!!

If McCain/Palin gets office......My fellow Americans I think I'll see the great USA in 4 years! My bags are packed just in case. I was republican but this is ridiculous. I guest it's our turn. I mean the democrats did have Kerry.

Palin needs more than photo opps, sit down, pre-rehearsed interviews with foreign leaders ( talking about kids ) and bashing the press. She cries feminism if anyone talks against her. With all this, she needs a brain.

She even looks like she could be Britney Spears' first cousin. Has anyone vetted her genealogy? Hey, Jamie's pregnant and it's a scandal...Bristol's pregnant it's a blessing.

If you've seen the Palin church video where she takes Rev. Muthee's "Make a way" prayer to it's God's will she should be governor, you should look up Rev. Muthee...chased a fortune teller out of her village in Kiambu, Kenya calling her a witch because she didn't accept Jesus and there had been several accidents near her house.. She was almost stoned.

Look up the article in the London Times online.

He's been to Palin's church by invitation ten times.

And we worry about her knowing Russia's next door?

Sarah Palin has foreign policy experience now – yesterday she met two foreign leaders and hugged Henry Kissinger. Now she can mark that off her list. She might go on SNL next. And I just saw on MSNBC there's a corn maze off her. Wow

The really scary thing is how many Americans think she's great. Remember 4 years ago when we had the headline "how can 58 million people be so dumb"? God forbid, it happen again... but after Bush getting reelected, nothing can surprise me anymore. Horrify, yes, surprise no...
