Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

it is now the time to see sarah for what sarah was, a peice of eye candy, with the same temper as mc cain , also with many problems , he met her twice she never really was investagated, if she was a blind man could see her daughter was with child, for 5 months she keepth this from the party, they even brought the boy who got her pregant and paraded him in front of every one,how they got him to go there i don't know, but to be put in front of the public and treat this like it was a family reunion, nothing wrong here. but sarah has been shut in so long she has lost her touch , the cocky alaskan now can't even answer the most simple questions, the candy is melting, and john is the one who pulled her down becuase she became to popular with the poeple, they wanted to see her not john , his crowds dropped ,so he brought her back with him, the funny thing was after she did her speach and john started , poeple left, and in a meeting with a forigan minister, he looked at the cameras and said now do you have any questions from me, the press asked sarah a question and with mc cains short temper he had all the press put out of that room within 2 min.. he can not deal with her being more popular than him ,so bnow they will shut her down as much as they can, she was never asked to gowith john. ken

We've all had chuckles and giggles about Palin. However, the laughter needs to stop here. Palin is no longer funny, she has become dangerous. Her qualifications are minimal no matter how much theRepublicans sugar-coat her. The United States needs more than a hockey mom to get us out of this mess.

I can't believe this!!!!!!! This woman is a heartbeat away from a 72 year old person running for president. While watching this interview I suddenly couldn’t comprehend anything and thought I suffered some kind of stroke then when I switched the channel I regained my senses back then I switched back and it happened again wow was that scary.

People, she could be one heartbeat away from the Presidency! Do we as a country not value intelligence? I am completely astonished that we are in this situation. I am not comfortable with a Vice President who is not intellectually equal to a significant portion of the nation.

Her living close to Russia as being a sign of experience has about as much credibility to me as someone living in a shack next to Bill Gates and claiming they know what it's like to be the worlds richest man...

Good guys.... bad guys.... what was she talking about? Palin's remarks were mind-numbingly stupid. It's actually a relief that the real Palin has now emerged so we can get on with electing a team that actually has some smarts. I think it's time to return to the Tundra!

My next door neighbors are psychologists... ("because they are right there. They are right next to our state") So that makes me an expert on psychology, right Palin?

Thusly, it's my prudent professional opinion that anybody who jeopardizes our country by voting for McCain/Palin... NEEDS THERAPY!

America is the best country in the entire world. People around the world admire and envy us. However, anyone watching this interview would say, "How did America sink this low?"

If McCain is needed in Washington, might I suggest that Sarah Palin substitute for him in Friday's debate. Is she ready?

this is the best time to be alive. this country is about to go from great to a doomed shining star. people are going to let mccain and the dirty repugs destoy this country over lies. there are a big group in this country that will do anything for power. even lie, spew hatred, try to keep the race's apart. i see why other country's hate us so much. we hate ourselves even more. and that's why this place is doomed. im just going to sit back and watch and laugh, not going to get much enjoyment out of it, the chickens are coming home to roost i think now.

    Ken and Jane,
Forget about Hillary Clinton, she's history and totally irrelevant. She lost fair and square. Nobody hoisted Senator Obama on anybody. When talking about experience, what kind of experience are you, guys, talking about exactly? Executive or legislative? If it is executive, neither presidential candidates have it. Last time, I checked the American president didn't require any executive nor legislative experience otherwise President Bush wouldn't have done such a wonderful job of tanking the whole economy in a 8yrs.

Voting for Senator McCain in the hope of bring back Senator Clinton just smacks of poor judgment. and juvenile politics. Time for you both to grow up an join the club of rescuing America.

She genuinely does not know how dumb and ignorant she is. Got most of what she wanted so far by a mix of cuteness and ruthless arm-twisting, but does not realize how different it is when you are in the national spotlight.

In Alaska she could con the public, but now she just might be about to learn a surprising lesson: most people nationwide will not cut you any slack just for your gritty hunting-hockey-mom-snowneck (=Alaskan redneck) style.
