Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

bet McCain wishes he had picked Mitt Romney Now. At least he would have a more solid position on being able to say it's the Economy, Stupid.

Advice to McCain,,,, drop Sarah Palin… say it was a Joke and get Mitt back on your ticket.
    Romney – Economy
    McCain-Foreign Affairs

At least Barack picked someone who balanced his ticket.
    Obama – Economy/Leadership
    Biden – Foreign Affairs/US Affairs

In this day.. this would have been one heck of a match up.
But... My vote, funds and support will go to
    OBAMA/BIDEN

    No McCain/Palin

Wait, but. How? I don't believe it. I need to go home and look at the unfiltered footage. I don't have much respect for her, but I would think the campaign advisers would have tried to hammer in "Proximity != Expertise"

I'm sorry... but her response lacked substance, lacked insight, and lacked comprehension of the implications and issues confronting US – Russia relations. This woman is an idiot.

Palin's Russia/Canada logic about having "foreign policy experience" is absurd! She's on another planet!

I guess Palin thinks that by continuing to repeat it often enough it might come true.

I new Palin was a whack job – her continuing repeating of this absurdity only proves it..

WAKE UP AMERICA – This fool wants to run our country...

She seems so ignorant.. I can't imagine her as the President of the United States in the event that something happens to McCain. I am a republican, but I won't vote for McCain because he did not choose a person for his VP who would be the President in the worst case if something happens to McCain. I am voting Obama-Biden Ticket. Voting democrat for the first time in my life. I'm 48 years old.

America...are you really listening to this woman? she is bound to get us into a war...why would she say "it is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on"..Russia? does she not think that no one in Russia is watching this? by her saying that wouldn't Russia then send Military to guard the area? is she a complete idiot? this chick will get us all killed!!!!

Watch the video. I was trying to give SP the benefit of the doubt, but she looked simply horrible during this interview. No wonder they don't let her speak to press.

Who, besides the brain-dead, still believes she's qualified to be President if McCain keels over?

    Oh my God...she's scary

Not that it would necessarily give Palin great foreign policy credentials, but I am curious..has she negotiated trade deals with Russia?

  19. ObamaGirl

What a doofus. I play video games with a girl in Japan and I have more foreign experience than Mrs. Palin. What the...? If that's good enough for the American people, we are in deep moose dung. I'm moving to Canada. As far as I'm concerned, Ms. Palin pales in comparison to Biden.

And as for Mr. McCain trying to stall: just be a man and go to the debate. Get it over with and stop insulting the intelligence of the American people. We can see right through your lies and political stunts. Defeat is imminent. Why prolong the inevitable?

Wow.... Palin, that made no sense at all.

I am so tired of this ticket. I just watched McCain state "they" made progress on the bill today. He did nothing. Then when confronted about the debate tomorrow, he said that it's Obama's fault for not doing what he asked him. McCain wanted 10 town hall meetings and Obama never agreed. Then he asked if he would raise taxes to pay for the bailout–he said no. The government is too big and he'll cut it down. He can do that.

Let us remeber McCain's hit song "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran." He can not be trusted to shrink government when he wants a third war. He will not cut government. He couldn't cut ties to the lobbyists.

Let me end by saying KEATING 5!

I don't think the SNL impersonation of her was at all exaggerated, and this is proof.

She is inconsequential, a non-factor other than the potentially disastrous chance she could be running our country if McCain is elected.
