Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

If I was supporting McCain/Palin, I would be cringing about now.

She just doesn't get it, does she?

She's such an idiot. Just because I like rum raisin ice cream doesn't mean I'm fit to run Ben & Jerry's, either.

I eat alot of Chinese, italian, and Mexican food, watch alot of British TV, and live in a state that borders Canada. Guess that means I have foreign policy experience too. Does this woman ever talk about anything else? She would be better as McCain's Chief of staff. Oh well she is old news now.

Sarah Palin will bring a new brand of foreign relations – kitchen table diplomacy. She can invite Putin and his yes people to her kitchen table for some home cooked moose stew. Next, she'll have them eating out of her hand. You go girl!

Well Bush is from Texas which shares a Gulf with Mexico. It hasn't seemed to fix the immigration issue or stop any drug Cartels. Palin is a joke. One of McNipulators risky long shot moves to get votes.

she's joking, right? I've visted Canada, Mexico, Brittan, France, Germany and Italy. Wouldn't that mean that even tourists have more "foreign" experience than she?

Even Katie Couric can't make Palin look presedential.

Palin is a box of rocks. I'm starting to think she isn't qualified to be governor of Alaska either!

    This mama is for Obama!

Come on. CNN, you have to play the interview with Katie Couric. Palin fumbled through the whole thing. Especially when asked about Russia and her foreign policy experience as it relates to Russia and Canada. Please people look it up. You will laugh, then you will get really scared at the idea that this candidate could be elected into office to help run this country.

Has she been to Russia? Can she speak Russian? Does she understand anything about Russian politics?

Lots of people can see Russia from their house, it does not qualify them to be VP...

A land border with Canada huh? So does Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Michigan, Minnesota.. .need I go on?? How about the land border with Mexico that several of our states claim? Apparently it is this proximity to a foreign country that gave GW Bush the clear foreign policy advantage! And if Russia is going to attack us, which she can't possibly think would happen, less all of NATO destroy them, does she really think Alaska would be the "targeted" state? I am sure Anchorage or Juneau was one of the cities that the terrorists contemplated hitting because of its clear importance into our economic and fundamental values!!! She's got to be kidding me!
