Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

You know what she reminds me of? Those cut-in-paste replies you get from online comment forms. You type in a question, and out pops a generic response. They don't usually respond to the actual question, they just give generic answers... cause they've picked up on some buzz word.

Comeon Sarah... I know you must be better than that. Try going off script for a change. I know there must be a real person in there somewhere.

  10. West Virginians For Obama

When Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's running mate, I laughed. I'm not laughing now. I'm afraid of her ignorance and what it could do to our country. I wish she would stop mentioning Putin, she's making me very nervous. Imagine her as President, what a nightmare.

What a total idiot. So I guess that means if I can see Mexico from California and have traveled outside the US I'm qualified to be Vice President. If you really think your fit for public office fess up in Trooper Gate. Let us all know what you and Todd did to get this guy fired.

What a woman. The perfect model for my daughters. Mayor, Governor, Member of the Alaskan Conservation and Energy Board, candidate for VP and all by the age of 44 and all while raising 5 children.

Besides all that she's gorgeous which is making Nancy Pelosi go for Botox injections and increase her visits to her shrink.

  15. Jessica Simpson is from Texas!!!

Maybe we can get Jessica Simpson to run for VP. She can see Mexico!!

We have seen for 8 years what a big mistake can do to our country. A disastrous President and an uncaring, unethical puppet master for a Vice President.

    Don't do it again...VOTE DEMOCRAT!!

Question: Did you ever conduct negotiations with Russia?
Her Answer: My state is next to Russia!!

Who does she think she's fooling, anyhow?

Well I saw some birds fly over my yard today so according to Sarah Palin now I am an ornithologist.

She couldn't have sounded any dumber than she did with Katie Couric. All she can do is keep repeating the same talking points in between hemming and hawing. It's become quite clear that she isn't even qualified to be a governor let alone a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Dear God Im from England and we have europe and Ireland almost in spitting distance so that makes me more qualified than her to be VP if we use her demented idea. Hell my pig is more qualified than her and my pig doesnt need lipstick.

Who is she kidding? Most Americans have more depth of understanding of experiences and knowledge that are necessary for foreign policy work. If she becomes VP will her responsibility be to keep an eye on Russia from her own state? What action would she take if she sniffed out a problem with her neighboring country? Charm them with her looks?

I would like to know a specific "trade mission" (whatever that is) that Mrs. Palin specifically and personally participated in. Clearly it did not take her to Russia, as she has never been there. She always speaks in vague generalities.

I think Goethe expressed what our nation must be thinking at the moment – "There is nothing more terrifying than ignorance in action."
Sara Palin and John McCain are the epitome of ignorance......and arrogance. What a dreadful combination.

Sarah cares nothing for the 2008' election. She's being groomed to run for President in 2012, after Obama has incurred the wrath of the public for faling to lead us out of the coming depression. Simpl, and right out of Karl Rove's mouth.

Wow she is one stupid lady! There are plenty of qualified women. What about Kay Bailey Hutchinson she is extremely intelligent. This lady is like Ellie May Clampert from the "Beverly Hillbillies".
