Palin: Russia's my next door neighbor

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/25/art.palinfighters0925.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin visited with firefighters near the World Trade Center in New York City Thursday."]
(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended the claim that Alaska’s proximity with Russia helps bolster her foreign policy resume in an interview released Thursday.

The Republican VP nominee, asked by CBS’s Katie Couric what she meant by that statement said: “That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land - boundary that we have with - Canada.

“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

The Alaska governor, asked if she had ever engaged in negotiations with Russia, said the country had swapped trade missions with her state. “It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

Palin has spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York, as she seeks to boost her national security and foreign policy credentials.

  3. Oh wow

So "keeping an eye" on Russia, whatever that means, really boosts your foreign policy resume... If you believe that you believe in just about anything. Pathetic, just pathetic

So that must mean that George W. Bush got his foreign policy and national security experience from being the governor of Texas and sharing a border with Mexico. Are people seriously considering her?

She's right. Sharing a border with Canada is like sharing a border with Iran. She must be a foreign policy and national defense expert.

Russion bombers may enter US airspace, but they NEVER reach land! That would be a serious breach of national security and they'd be shot down. But what do we expect from someone who just ordered "How to be a VP: for Dummies" from Amazon.

  12. AMERICA'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH SARAH WAS A ONE NITE STAND!

Katie Couric(hardly my idea of a hard-hitting interviewer) ask the bobble head, we now know as the republican traveling side show, Sarah “Gidget” Palin, the woman’s answer is below:

“That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land — boundary that we have with — Canada.
“…our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of,” said Palin.

Sarah Screech a Speech then attempts to clarify her previous statement below:

“It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border,” she said.

“It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to our state."

    Observations:

    1. Now I know why it took 5 years and 6 schools in Idaho to earn that degree in journalism

    2. Never end a sentence in a preposition(Google it if you cannot find it above) especially on national television.

    3. If people BELIEVE that tripe, you should not be walking among us unattended!

Are you kidding me? What an immature, sophmoric comment to continue to make! I live in Florida and can see Cuba on a clear day–does that bolster my Ph.D. and business credentials? The part of Russia she can see from her back yard is tundra–inhabited by polar bears..not Putin!

You gotta be freakin' kiddin' me. Hell, I've been to Alaska, Japan, Panama and all over Europe. Does that qualify me to be the next Vice President of the United States??? I should think not. If you guys are really buying this, I got some hot new savings bonds I want to sell you and I promise that they'll make you a millionaire in one week. She is really a joke. Not because she's a woman, but because she's just a joke!!!

Ms Palin needs to get off this – it's just looking more embarrasing every time she says it. I only have a road separating me and a bank. Does that make me a financial expert?

Foreign policy experience comes from a lot more than having international neighbors (Illinois is just across a lake from another country) and shaking hands with a few leaders from other countries.

Sorry, but everything she says seems to be either incoherent, a lie or at best a stretch.

    "As Putin rears his head"???

Who's been coaching this woman, some relic of the 1950's Cold War?

What exactly does she do regarding Putin's alleged intrusions into U.S. air space over Alaska? Has she ever sent a communique to Washington? Has she ever put the Alaska National Guard on alert? Has she ever even been briefed on any such intrusions? In short, does her behavior as Alaska Governor in any way differ from that of the Montana governor because of this proximity to Russia?

This kind of talk might get you through a beauty pageant, but it doesn't make you fit to govern.
