OXFORD, Mississippi (CNN) - Sen. John McCain, the Republican candidate for president, said Friday he would seriously consider freezing all government spending except for defense and care of veterans.

Sen. Barack Obama, his Democratic opponent, said that would be "using a hatchet where you need a scalpel."

Come on America! After this week's events, if people don't wake up and vote for the only man that can get the US back on track, this country is going to be in deep in trouble for many years to come!

McSame – Spending Freeze except for Defense!
Palin – I can see Russia from my backyard!..

Only chance back to greatness for our country is Obama!

I'm no McCain fan but he did say spending freezes outside of entitlements, which are Medicare, Medicaid and other mandated by law programs. After these programs, a spending freeze really wouldnt have that much impact.

I can't believe this. . . tell me why McCain is refusing to look at Obama. That shows he's a liar and VERY disrespectful. If he can't look at Obama in the eye, McCain is only a weak man, a spineless man. A spending freeze????? You've got to be kidding. Obama said it best. It's like taking a hatchet when only a scalpel is needed. I think McCain has lost this debate. Have you noticed how McCain sounds just like Bush, even the tone of his voice is just like Bush. Yikes......:(

    Well Tiffany,

Why don't you get off your butt and serve your country? How about we send you to Iraq or some other place so that you can earn your freedom instead of setting on the sidelines complaining about the programs in place to take care of those that are doing it for YOU and for YOUR children? Tell ya what, why don't you come and exp to my daughter why she has only had her soldier father in her life for 3.5 out of the 10 years of her life? How does that sound? I will leave the light on for ya!

And give the rich a tax cut!

And since all seniors are not married to a beer heiress, I guess he wants to start with SS and Medicare!

That ole fart lives in the past. Obama can change image of everyone in Washington. Experience does not count. Look what all the experience has gotten us: broke, the world hates us and we can't even travel on a plane anymore without getting strip-searched. GoBarack- You are an inspiration. Tried of the ole boys. Get rid of all of them

You cannot CUT yourself into growth. You have to make the right choices and INVEST in growth and some of that will need to come from difficult tax choices.

McCain keeps bringing up Reagan. The Reagan's didn't like John McCain because of what he did to his first wife.

McCain is right on track with this. You adjust your spending to match you income; it's called a budget. Obama is all for raising taxes and won't commit to suspending his planned spending increases that will cost $2,300 for every man, woman, and child in the nation.

We shouldn't be shifting the losses of corporations from their shareholders to the taxpayer. But if we did, it shouldn't be piled onto the national debt that's already at $30K per person.

Freezing spending except for government spending (doesn't this contradict his less spending in government) for defense (of course, we couldn't go to war if defense spending was frozen) for veterans (too bad he didn't vote for any of the bills making our vets lives easier, i.e. education, better health care, etc.) What a pack of lies. I've lost track of how many lies he's said since he started talking.
