Palin lays low in Philadelphia, goes jogging

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) - With the eyes of the political world focused on the legislative drama unfolding in Washington, D.C. and on tonight’s presidential debate in Mississippi, Sarah Palin is keeping a low profile in Philadelphia, where she will spend the coming days preparing for her own debate against Sen. Joseph Biden.

After a marathon series of meetings with international heads of state in New York earlier this week, Palin is now holed up in her Philadelphia hotel with a cadre of domestic and foreign policy advisers, studying for next Thursday's vice presidential debate in St. Louis. Her campaign plane, a JetBlue charter, left Palin and her staff behind in Pennsylvania Friday in order to fly John McCain’s staffers and press corps to Mississippi.

Palin is expected to make a brief appearance Friday night at a local debate watching party at an Irish pub before returning to her room to watch the much-anticipated face-off between McCain and Barack Obama.

It’s not all work for the vice presidential nominee, however. These “down days,” as they are known on the campaign trail, have allowed Palin to make time for one of her favorite hobbies – jogging.

Palin has said she enjoys running cross-country in Alaska because “it thrashes your guts and your lungs and your thighs.”

The governor has gone running with her Secret Service agents along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia for two days in a row, donning a pink “McCain-Palin” baseball cap, a black Nike windbreaker and shorts, and Nike running shoes. She timed each of her runs with a digital wristwatch.

Her workout on Thursday lasted 25 minutes. On Friday, she jogged a path along the river for nearly 40 minutes, with her daughter Willow joining her for part of the run.

Maybe she will do a runaway bride on her next run, when her mind is clear and she realizes she is out of her league and being used by the Republicans to energize the base. I almost feel bad for you, then I recall how mean your convention speech was and I don't feel so bad anymore. Good Luck on 10/2 debate from the prior interviews you will need it.

Also thanks for letting Putin know how important Alaska was to our security.

  3. not as disciplined

I hate running myself...dedication to running cross country is admirable...if it were easy more Americans might do it...guess the same could be said about being a leader rather than criticizing a leader.

I sure wish there were more leaders in America...or at least that those who will openly criticize others will step up to fill the gaps they observe.

    cmon cnn...

    Your comment is awaiting moderation.

If she steps down or McCain cans her, we have to remember this horrendous, impetutous pick. Even if he picks someone much more stable and moderate, the fact of the matter remains that he screwed up big time with this pick, he screwed up big time with his political posturing over the bailout/debate, and he will further screw up, big time, our country if elected. We can not elect this man as President.

You can run, Sarah, but you cannot hide your ignorance. Why don't you let us think about your run for VP and get back to you – next year.

Gov. Sarah Palin ought to serve the United States by carry on jogging unntil the Philadelphia airport and board the first jet planebound for Alaska. 300 million Americans would then have a debt of gratitude towards her.

    THANKS, BUT NO THANKS SARAH!!!!!!!

Ms. Palin. Leave this race and return to your career, hunting, fishing and family in Alaska. Many people in Alaska like you and this is where your confort zone is. You would learn very quickly if you left the race and returned home you would be much happier. Stay with McCain and this race for a position that you are not ready to fill and it will destroy you. Don't let McCain do this to you.

  21. Clearly not ready

You know – I could be harsh, but even though this woman is clearly not ready for this I have to say that she appaers to truly care about her family, seeminly taking them everywhere. She is probably a very good mother and devoted wife and should be commended for that.

Everyone, especially her family, would be best served by going back to Alaska. This is not her mistake, this is McCain's. He is a pure nutcase.

Sarah Palin has no idea what is going on national and international. What a pathetic and dumb answers she gave to CBS anchor Katie–listening to Sarah Palin is like listening to my 94 year-old grandma tells bedtime stories? She is not bright, uninformed, pointless, dances around wth grammatical errors. I can barely grab what she was saying whether is Isreal, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, economy, bailout and energy. She said she is an expert on energy yet she she lied about 20% Alaska energy supply to the US. What about Bridge and Road to Nowhere? Sarah couldn't even name Mcsame bipartsan accomplishments since for 26yrs in the Senate. What about Lame Bush doctrine and many more? American, our country is doomed.....................
