Palin: U.S. should never 'second-guess' Israel

CNN

Watch: In her third TV interview, Gov. Sarah Palin raises eyebrows with some of her comments.

(CNN) - The United States should not second guess actions Israel takes in the name of security, Sarah Palin seemed to suggest in a Thursday interview.

The Republican VP nominee recently said that she would never "second guess Israel if that country decided to attack Iran." Speaking with Katie Couric of CBS News, she stood by that quote.

“We shouldn't second guess Israel's security efforts because we cannot ever afford to send a message that we would allow a second Holocaust, for one,” she said. “Israel has got to have the opportunity and the ability to protect itself. They are our closest ally in the Mideast. We need them. They need us. And we shouldn't second guess their efforts.”

The Alaska governor said the United States should be free to relay its rights our concerns, but “we don't have to second-guess what their efforts would be if they believe ... that it is in their country and their allies, including us, all of our best interests to fight against a regime, especially Iran, who would seek to wipe them off the face of the earth,” said Palin. “It is obvious to me who the good guys are in this one and who the bad guys are.”

Palin spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York.

Mama always said to watch out for dem pitbulls. They will bite ya.... and leave ya fatally wounded ...like my friend bubba wuz. She said they dem pitbulls belong locked up somewhere.....somewhere cold...like Alaska. She also told me not to let dem pitbulls in the White Hause.....they'll just tear up the new plastic on mama's old sofa. Mama wouldn't like that.

Yes all you liberals who seem oblivous to the real world dont understand Israels position. They are surronded by over a hundred million hostile people who want to exterminate them, they are entitled to take actions in their self defence that they deem neccasary. Palin hit this one on the nail. Though many of you would rather continue your trend of appeasment, which we all know worked so well in stoping Hitler and WW2.

I weep for the future of this country if someone this ignorant is elected as vice-president. Every single thing she says is meaningless blather, empty soundbites, or just plain wrong. I swear to god, she must be even dumber than W.

In all seriousness McCain needs to get her to step down.
She clearly has no grasps on foreign policy. She has no grasp on the way the world works. If Palin believes in good guys, bad guys, she could start another war with the snap of a finger.
Our name is already mud in the world after 8 years of Bush. Palin and the hotheaded McCain who sees everyone who doesn't carry an American flag and all other countries as enemies or potential enemies would make sure we stay in the mud and into another war.
This is danerous folks and the media better do their job or risk helping initiate another Iraq war.

    Watching from way up North!
Way to go Sarah! The folks calling you down or against you seem to be very jealous of you. A lot of SEXISM, the same thing they did to Hilary even though she belonged to same party. As for the people who appear to be so concerned about John Mccain kicking the bucket soon and referring to Sarah as being a heart beat away if McCain should win the presidency. Maybe another nickname is in the works for Sarah: "America's Heartbeat." As far as Biden goes, you have to feel sorry for him especially when he comes to face to face with Palin in a debate. Sure Biden has been a Senator all his life but Sarah proves she can multi task right from being a mother to dealing with politics. She's one tough intelligent woman and she will pull through despite all the name calling and put downs. Go McCain! Go Palin!

    SUPPORT EACH OTHER INDEFINITELY; BUT . . . .

. . . there is no nation on this earth where we as Americans should not apply President Ronald Reagan's mantra "TRUST, BUT VERIFY". Wise and discerning leaders should always know the smallest details of both its friends and its adversaries when it comes to international issues that may have life & death implications, or may impact a nation's good health and survival.

Clearly, Sarah Palin is NOT thoughtful enough to explain such a simple principle.

Well, there you go! Happy to support any war that might arise. Spoken like a true neo-con with their finger on the trigger.

Friends should always be in a position to advise friends. Sometimes they need second-guessed to ensure they do not drive themselves, and in this case the world, into the ditch.

Start up the draft. We are going to need a much larger military when the Republicans are put in charge for another 8 years. We will be involved in several more wars on several more fronts, it appears.

Ms. Palin doesn't have a clue about the subject. The USA second guesses Israel all the time.

I just came back from Israel the early part of this month – one of the recurring complaints I heard was that the USA meddles too much in Israeli internal affairs and that the Israeli government defers too often to the wishes of Washington because they don't want to put the US's aid to them at risk.

I suggest Ms. Palin bow out gracefully and get an education in economics (local and global) and international affairs – then maybe she can say something knowledgeable and coherent.

    Heaven help us!

People, I know how hard it is for most of us to recognize honor when it is right in front of us... it is a rare attribute these days. Who would we want for President, one who persues his own interests, who is absent from work like he has been most of his polical carreer, or one who forgets his own personal agenda and rushes to address what he considers a threat to the well being of the American people?
Say what you want about Palin's inexpirience. She is learning fast, and will make mistakes. Better now than latter. McCain is the real deal, if we can't see Obama for the traitor he is and would be as President, our country is selfish, weak and ready for a fall. Only faith, integrity, self restraint, and self-lessness will save our country. God first, Country second, Family third, Community fifth, selfish entitlement a very distant sixth.

I would like to give you credit for knowing when you are over your head, but I can't. You don't even think there is a problem here. That is more than scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does she expect to negotiate with Iran when she is already calling them "the bad guys"? How does she expect to negotiate peace in the middle east when she says she will never second-guess Israel, but will apparently second guess Palestine? Sounds like someone who would decide to go to war "without blinking". I didn't believe this was possible, but she's even scarier than Bush.

Peace can only be achieved when you have enemies that are willing to consider being your friends.

Does any logical human being who has read, watched, or listened to any of the spew from Iran's President, any radical Islamic clerics, or any one of Bin-Ladens team–really believe they will ever just settle their differences with infidels and eastern/ western zionists.

It's tempting to think of Palin as a perfectly nice woman who is just way out of her league. But then you think of her choice to be blessed by a minister that Palin knew had proudly run a "witch" out of her Kenyan village. And the pressure her Governor's office put on an Alaskan Workers Compensation clerk to deny her ex-brother-in-law's claim for an injury suffered in the line of duty. Incidents like these raise far graver questions about Palin's fitness for the office of Vice President than a silly interview answer. Please cover these fully, CNN.

I could be wrong but it seems to me like Palin is not 'at ease' during interviews and while she takes her time to 'respond to questions sometimes the 'answers and incoherent or questions do not get answered as asked. On this very sensitive issue, this sort of answer can raise eye brows!

    Dixie September 26th, 2008 1:58 pm ET

Iran has continually stated that they wanted to wipe Israel off the map. They should have our support to decide what is right for "their" future. Obama has stated repeatedly his dislike of Israel until he started campaigning for POTUS. We can't afford to have him as head of our National Security.

Lets give Sarah a break here. She like knows where Russia is. She like understands the good guys and the bad guys. You know the good guys wear white and the bad guys wear black. Perhaps John will let her answer more questions later. Until then we all must with be satisfied with the few humorour times we get to hear her.
