Palin: U.S. should never 'second-guess' Israel

Watch: In her third TV interview, Gov. Sarah Palin raises eyebrows with some of her comments.

(CNN) - The United States should not second guess actions Israel takes in the name of security, Sarah Palin seemed to suggest in a Thursday interview.

The Republican VP nominee recently said that she would never "second guess Israel if that country decided to attack Iran." Speaking with Katie Couric of CBS News, she stood by that quote.

“We shouldn't second guess Israel's security efforts because we cannot ever afford to send a message that we would allow a second Holocaust, for one,” she said. “Israel has got to have the opportunity and the ability to protect itself. They are our closest ally in the Mideast. We need them. They need us. And we shouldn't second guess their efforts.”

The Alaska governor said the United States should be free to relay its rights our concerns, but “we don't have to second-guess what their efforts would be if they believe ... that it is in their country and their allies, including us, all of our best interests to fight against a regime, especially Iran, who would seek to wipe them off the face of the earth,” said Palin. “It is obvious to me who the good guys are in this one and who the bad guys are.”

Palin spent the week meeting with foreign leaders in New York.

I'm convinced that one of the reasons that McCain pulled that 'suspension' stunt was to distract the media from all of his other 'bad news' stories recently. And one of those stories was the ongoing subpar performance of Palin. She clearly is not ready to be VP or step up to be President. So McCain did not have the integrity to put 'country first' when he picked her, and he keeps pullings stunts and ploys and gimmicks to distract us. But this story isn't going away, and neither are the other stories that McCain was hoping to distract us from.

Yikes.............this woman is so scary and unqualified in her black and white world of foreign policy.

Does anyone else see a VP switch coming in the next few days?

I can see the McCain camp sympathy play already. Oh, poor Sarah had to withdraw because of that meany pants Obama and his blatant sexist lies about her family. The media, who is already in the tank 150% for Obama, just does nothing but expect this poor victim to answer questions with coherent responses.

My friends, please join me, John McCain, to right this tremendous wrong and elect me President. I will clean up Washington and the media. In my spare time I will run down to Washington and run it all by myself because there will be none of these other "do-nothing" politicians left after my mavericky, maverick, maverick house cleaning......Oh and don't expect to see any of it on the news, because I will censor all media coverage that doesn't tell people that I am a POW.

  9. White Mother for Obama!!

Where did she come from?? Outer Space?? Under a Rock??

Just because we have VERY GOOD relations with a Country does not mean they dont make mistakes and that they dont make bad choices that we should have to back up!!

Every country in my opinion is responsible for their own problems and mistakes. If Israel just wants to bomb Iran for no apparent reason and make up a reason like Bush did about Iraq... I dont want america to support it at all!!! You dont just not second guess!! I would second guess a friend if they were going to do something that could cost many lives!!

    Wake Up Palin!!

This is perhaps the most ignorant comment yet from Palin. Israel is always right, she says. Why doesn't she just go all the way and say something like "The United States is never wrong."

Apparently, Palin does not realize that just because someone is a close ally doesn't mean that they can never be wrong.

  14. Israel's the Problem

America should ALWAYS second-guess Israel. 1.3 million Palestinians remain stuck in refugee camps, 41 years after the end of the 6-Days War. That's the root of Arab hostility toward America, because America guaranteed Israel's security while Israel committed ethnic cleansing against Palestinians.

Israel's claim to be "America's best ally" is based on resentment of America caused by Israel's own behavior. America would have many good allies in the middle east, if it hadn't helped to enable Israel's campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Does she even know what the Holocaust entailed, or how it came about? Or is she just spouting jargon that she thinks is somehow related to Israel?

Usually I would find it difficult to pile on this women however I will never forget (never) her tone and sarcasim during her speech at the Republican Convention. Her undoing is McCains fault because she should never had been picked as a VP candidate.

It is funny how media wants to pick apart everything Palin says. People think we have some right to tell Israel what they can and cannot do. Ask the same question about NATO Ally France if they felt Iran was too much of a threat to them, and attacked, and the answer is of course, no you can't second guess them.
