McCain ticked off Palin’s achievements with the editors of the Des Moines Register – a swing state paper that endorsed his presidential bid before January’s Republican caucuses.
"So, with due respect, I strongly disagree with your premise that she doesn't have experience and knowledge and background,” he said. “I fundamentally disagree, and I'm proud of her record.”
Later, after continuing to counter Palin’s critics, he pointed to what he called a divide between the press and the public on their view of the Alaska governor. “…You and I just have a fundamental disagreement and I'm so happy that the American people seem to be siding with me,” said McCain.
When editors pointed to similar recent assessments from conservatives, McCain responded “Really? I haven't detected that,” attributing those sentiments to the “Georgetown cocktail party” circuit.
“Some people allege that others may have spent too much time inside the Beltway, and too much time not out in touch with the American people,” said McCain. “Some people that know that Franklin Delano Roosevelt didn’t address the American people on television.”
Asked later if he had benefited from taxpayer-subsidized health care his entire life, McCain replied that the question had no relation to his ability to understand the concerns of those Americans who had not.
“You know that's an interesting statement, isn’t it?” he responded. “And I have never been an astronaut, but I think I know the challenges of space. And I have never done a lot of things in my life that I think I am familiar with.”
According to CNN's Iowa poll of polls released September 22, before the first presidential debate, Obama held a 7-point lead (50-43 percent) in the state. Iowa narrowly voted for President Bush in 2004, but gave a major boost to Obama's presidential fortunes earlier this year at the start of the primary season.
Of course McCain has to defend Palin. Every tiem the fool opens her mouth she sets women back 100 years.
Even though I can't stand McCain, he knows very well that his choice of Palin, and teh reasons he chose her, have blown up in his face. He picked her for two reasons only;
1. Because she is a woman;
and
2. Bcecause he was counting on the stupidity of women across America, especially white women, to vote for him.
You would think that women in this country would be outraged at being so used and taken for granted, yet many say they are voting for McCain and Palin.
Americans are the most ignorant, apathetic, whiny, uninformed people on the planet. I don't want to hear one woman who is voting for McCain to say that they put their family or their children first.
To put someone as ignorant, incoherent, inexperienced, etc. one heartbeat away from running this country is ludicrous.
No wonder it is a man's world. Thank to McCain and Palin it will be another decade or longer before a woman is taken seriously for a position of power in Government or the Corpoarte world.
The "Georgetown Cocktail Party Circuit?" Is he kidding? This is a man who's mom was an oil heiress. He married a beer distributorship heiress. He has so many houses he's lost count. Yet he keeps trying to inject elitism into his campaign so we will once again look at him as a guy we'd most like to have a beer with. Now his vp pick is a "joe six-pack american." Come on people. Wake up from your dazed and confused state. This is no commoner here.
McCain is a very stubborn man. Why would I want to vote for a person who is only interested in hearing his own voice.
NOW SPIN THIS ONE TOO JOHN!!!
The new Quinnipiac University surveys show Obama leading McCain in Florida 51 percent to 43 percent, in Ohio 50 percent to 42 percent and in Pennsylvania 54 percent to 39 percent.
GIVE US BOTH OF YOUR TAX RETURNS OR SHUT UP.
When Palin doesn't know what she is talking about it is hard to have a debate or conversation. Prediction for thursday is that Palin will break down mid interview of fear and lack of knowledge. This will be terrible but yet funny to watch. Without knowledge and command of facts what can she say.
Obama......08
That's why she's in debate camp and his own campaign team said she's dealing with items she never dealt with before. I'm a president of my own company so I'm qualified to be president of the u.s.. Notice lower casing for the small minded citizens in the u.s. who actually support this idiot.
Thanks McCain.
McCain is not fit to lead!!! He failed to vet Palin at all and now has to lie everyday to convince America that he has not lost it. America, this is no longer funny. This person cannot be allowed to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency.
Is this in denial or what. Should get his head checked out.
Please. The woman can gut a moose, lobby for a bridge to Nowhere, babble nonsensically to Katie Couric, and still find time to keep her teenage daughter from learning about contraception.
Experience? She's got it in spades.
"And I have never done a lot of things in my life that I think I am familiar with."
That about sums it up, doesn't it?
Sad old man.
Sarah Palin is popular with a portion of the die hard Republican base that wouldn't care if she was the Devil incarnate; they'd still support her.
The American people were infatuated with the cute Sarah but that is wearing off and McCain can't understand it because she's still getting a rise out of him.
She's not smart. She lies. She's snide (let's not forget that RNC speech that she read) . Even if I buy her "experience" there are SO many topics that she doesn't even have to deal with in Alaska that are relevant to the majority of the country of which she has ZERO knowledge. What does she know about large metropolitan cities for example? Where significant number of American's live?
Does she know anything about public education? I see her kids are never in school by the way.
Her comment about Russian aircraft invading US airspace has no relevance to her. She DOES NOT command F-15s & F-22s to deal with these incursions which, by the way, haven't happend while she has been governor.
When asked what periodicals she reads she couldn't be specific. The Wall Street Journal, the Economist, US News & World Report, nothing.
There is no there ... there
Is this old man in denial or what? Should get his checked out.
Enough, we don't want this woman, as she discribe herself as a Joe Six Pack to lead America,I sugest to you Palin go back to Alaska, you forget to tell the people about how you cheated, how you refuse to help rape victims with their tests. Enough lies animal killer.
Oh god. People get off it!
palin is good and there is nothing you can do or say.
so move no to more important issues, will ya?!?!
If what she's been showing recently is the product of that so-called experience and judgment then I feel so much better voting for the guy McCain labels 'inexperienced'.
“I fundamentally disagree, and I'm proud of her record.”
“…You and I just have a fundamental disagreement and I'm so happy that the American people seem to be siding with me,”
"The fundamentals of the economy are strong."
Anyone else see a pattern here? Every time John McCain uses the word "fundamental" or any of its forms, the statement is a bunch of bunk!
The Georgetown coctail party circiut!
Those horrible people with college degrees! Those doggone smart inteligent people! They're such elitists!
They shouldn't be running the country! Hockey moms who went to six community colleges should!
So there!
The more we learn about Palin, the dumber McCain looks. His tactic is back firing on him.
Deny, defend and deflect, but what else can he do now? He made an impulsive decision that gave him a short term lift but is now helping to sink him. It is really sad to see what has happend to McCain.
where in his warped beffudled old mind does he think the people of this country agree with him on Caribou Barbie. The majority think she is a blithering idiot who cant string a couple of sentences together to make it sound like she actually has an IQ.
John McCain is acting like a Father would protecting his daughter. I don't think Gov Palin wants his protection or she needed to be defended. Sen McCain let her grow up. GO Obama/Biden
Helloooooooooooo--Mccain is getting ready to dump Praline under the bus and roll on!!
All this "praise"--he is going to secretly force her to resign, citing family reasons. She will get a nice job with him if he wins in return for the resignation.
SHE will RESIGN so he will not have to admit a MISTAKE-because he will not ever admit at mistake.
All this "praise" is to make it look like he really really really supported her, so when she "resigns" it will look more genuine. AND HE CAN SAVE FACE.
ONCE AGAIN, MCCAIN AND HIS HENCHMEN WILL THINK WE ALL STUPIDLY BELIEVE HIS LIES. NOT THIS TIME--WE SEE IT COMING, FOLKS.
Thanks but no thanks!!!!
No way would I want Palin even LOOKING at the White House because she would think that is enough experience to be President of the USA!!!!
IT'S TIME THE AMERICAN VOTERS DEMAND THIS WOMAN STEP DOWN, NOT ONLY IS SHE BAD FOR OUR COUNTRY, SHE IS A TERRIBLE ROLE MODEL FOR OUR CHILDREN WHO WILL BE TOMORROWS LEADERS. PALIN IT'S TIME TO GET OUT!!!
