Palin: I'm a 'Joe-six pack American'

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday.

SEDONA, Arizona (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Tuesday called herself a “Joe-six pack American” and said that her family has lost $20,000 in the stock market because of the financial meltdown on Wall Street.

Palin made the comments in a radio interview with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt while taking a break from debate prep at John McCain’s ranch in Sedona.

“I know what Americans are going through there,” Palin said on the radio show. “And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.

“I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’”

Earlier: Palin takes a dig at Biden's age?

Hewitt asked Palin her reaction to the “extreme hostility” that she has faced from liberals.

“Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

Geeze...$20,000 would pay off my double wide mobile home. It's good to know we have a VP candidate understands my woes.

Wait. . . liberals are ticked off because an average person is finally represented in the position of vice-president?

    No ma'am, Ms. Palin.

The liberals are ticked off because should anything bad happend to Mr. McCain–God forbid–then you would be the president.

America is not going to allow YOU to happen to the presidency.
Sorry, you don't get or know anything about the lower 48 states. Please go back to Alaska.

And what in the world is a Joe six-pack American? You mean, you drink six packs of coke, beer, what?????

Uggg. Please go back to Alaska.

Governing to the lowest common denominator got us in this mess in the first place. I am all for having a beer with "Joe or Jill Six-Pack," but that is not what we need dealing with the important issues of our time. Please America, wake up!

Um... George W. Bush already represented the middle-American 'value' of blissful ignorance. Go home to Alaska Palin and use your BIONIC eyes to see Russia 1130 miles away from your house.

It is a "sin" for Pentecostals to drink. You can't be a Joe-six pack" family.

I am not "ticked off" that a Joe Six Pack is running for the vice presidency. I am ticked off that a not-very-bright woman, with no intellectual curiosity, with a willingness to dismiss other points of view, who is demonstrably vindictive, who is willing to give positions of power to people without qualifications is running for the vice presidency.

  11. Where is your head?

Ok... SO the GOP keeps her hidden away from the public like NO OTHER VP candidate in the HISTORY of the USA Presidential election, & we need to give her "Low Expectation" / a break for Thursday nights Debate.... or for not talking to the " Humble / Great Citizens of this country" by using meaningful dialog speaking to the press???
(Maybe we are hurting her feelings & she CAN’T handle the Pressure”)
Ms. Joe-six-pack??? No I think she is like Ms. Jack Daniels that just "downed the bottle", now lacking any sense!! DO the ticket a favor; drop her before she speaks AGAIN!!
Can you imagine, her “running the country"?

  12. Disgusted Citizen

The problem that I have with this statement is that other countries don't elect their "Joe Six-Pack" citizens to the highest position in the country. Why should we settle??? These other foreign leaders are highly educated elitists. Even Third World country dictators, they went to American IVY League schools. So why does America want someone who isn't an elite running the country??? What's wrong with you people??????

I don't think it is politically expedient to create a self prescribed moniker for a hypothetical aggregate of Americans that successfully endorses alcohol use and subconsciously highlights the common and yet pleasant qualities of your opposing vice presidential candidate.

Translation: This makes her look like shes trying to fit in by acting like she drinks and by using the word Joe we think of Joe Biden. A regular ol' Six Pack Joe American...what a guy!

    Obama/Biden 08'

No, Palin needs to understand that this country elected a "normal Joe six-pack American" President eight years ago. Why would we make that mistake again???

So what does Palin say about the conservatives that feel the same way as the liberals. I here more of the conservatives saying dump Palin. Palin has no dignity and she let Mccain take it away. Palin is smalltown will never make it and should go back home were she belongs. We need her watching the Russians !! LOL

I don't want Joe Six-Pack running my country. I want the best and brightest people possible running my country. I want people who understand how to lead, how to govern, how to make decisions. People who understand the issues, who know the history, and who can shape the policy. Sorry, but a Joe Six-Pack won't solve our economic problems, develop energy or health care policy, or negotiate with foreign countries. My garbage man is Joe Six-Pack. The butcher at the supermarket is Joe Six-Pack. The waiter at Chili's is Joe Six-Pack. They are all nice people, but they aren't qualified to be vice president of the United States. Neither is Sarah Palin.

We don't need a VP/ potential President who needs a crash course in world affairs and economics. Heaven help us if we fall for this again and put yet another moron in the White House!

And why won’t she answer questions from the press or even from the public who come to hear her speak? Because she can’t answer without letting on that she is clueless without a script.

And how can anyone support yet another candidate (Palin) who believes they do not have to answer to the public. It is reminiscent of the secrecy of the Bush administration. She and McCain are following in Bush'es footsteps. Straight-talk Express, NOT!

Usually, elected officials refuse to answer questions AFTER being elected. It is very scary when they hide from the public before the election, and the public still votes for them. Wake up folks!

We’ve had 8 years of this. Enough is enough!

I know so many people that are posting think Palin isn't smart enough to be VP but most of these posters couldn't even come close to her. I imagine you feel that you are smarter than her. Let's see you be a governor. Oh, that's right, she is a governor is a state that doesn't have a huge population. I believe a governor in Alaska deals with the same things as a governor in New York, only on a smaller scale. Also, the population in Alaska is about the same as the state of Delaware. Isn't that the state that Biden represents? Everyone (well, everyone with a brain anyway) knows that a governor has tons more responsibilities than a Senator. And so what if she hasn't met world leaders. She doesn't attend the same DC parties that all the Congress does so she doesn't go through the same reception lines, shaking hands with world leaders. How many world leaders have Obama and Biden actually sat down and talked with and worked out deals with? I'll give it to you that when Obama went on his world tour he met some people but that's not the same as having foreign experience. Biden has served on some foreign relations committees and may have some experience there but Obama, not. Palin is a real person. I believe that our forefathers, when creating this great country, believed that our leaders should be real people, not politicians. Obama has been rehearsing for his politicial career since he went to college. Biden has been in politics longer than anyone of either of the tickets. McCain has been in DC quite a while too but he isn't known as one of the regulars. He has bucked his party many times. He hasn't requested earmarks right and left like Obama has in his 3 short years (really only 1.5 because he has been campaigning for 1.5). Palin will be a fine VP. Give her a chance. After all, you guys are not geniuses and when you cut her down you are cutting yourself down, saying that any average Joe is not good enough.

OhhhHHH.... now I understand why she's such a ditz! She's drank way too many six-packs. They've always said too much booze kills too many brain cells – now we have the proof!
