Palin: I'm a 'Joe-six pack American'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/30/art.palinchat0930.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday."]
SEDONA, Arizona (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Tuesday called herself a “Joe-six pack American” and said that her family has lost $20,000 in the stock market because of the financial meltdown on Wall Street.

Palin made the comments in a radio interview with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt while taking a break from debate prep at John McCain’s ranch in Sedona.

“I know what Americans are going through there,” Palin said on the radio show. “And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.

“I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’”

Earlier: Palin takes a dig at Biden's age?

Hewitt asked Palin her reaction to the “extreme hostility” that she has faced from liberals.

“Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

So Palin is proud of being a poor investor, and identifies with the 6-pack loser drinking themselves into oblivion?

The American Dream was supposed to be about success and working hard to improve yourself. It inspired the world. The Republicans however have turned being a poorly educated drunk (like their current President – who's fake education isn't worth the money Daddy paid for it) into a political matter of pride.

Here's to Elitism. Here's to having the BEST for the job, here's having the smartest, the most capable. John McCain might get some sympathy if he hadn't picked this idiot fundamentalist for his running mate. The world needs people who strive to be the best. Not idiots who are proud of being idiots (that's the cancer that Reagan brought to the Republican party and America).

If America is dumb enough to elect Palin then the nation is doomed.

Did everyone but ME forget that this woman has a PLANE parked on the lake in her front yard?

Trust me when I say that is NOT what most Americans have going on.

And I don't drink beer; I drink wine and mojitos, so what is she saying about me?

  4. Palin is the female G.W. Bush

Ah yes, because the last “Joe-six pack American” we elected to office has been working out so well for us. I personally believe that both of them are full of it; the average American has a higher IQ than either Palin or Bush.

  5. Obama For President

That is just her opinion one that I do not share............I'm glad she feels she has an understanding of ordinary Americans but I see very little evidence of this.

And no...we are ticked off because she is an idiot who clearly felt no need to keep up with the goings on of her own country that she claims to love. She seems very well versed in Alaska and apparently a very good governor to them, but she is completely unaware of what is going on in this country and other nations. So, no...its not that you are Joe six pack; it because you are Sarah Nitwit.

The difference between her and us is she took a $20,000 hit and kept going 'strong' as she puts it. The rest of us REAL average Americans would be hurting seriously after such a loss.

Joe six-pack American?? People are ticked off about her being in the race?? OMG. This woman is really clueless... I'm actually starting to feel sorry for her – almost, but not quite.

How about the extreme hostility she has faced from conservative ideologues and Republican leaders? Gov. Palin, it's not about "average Joe," it's about being qualified for the job. Personally, I want the second highest elected position of the Executive Branch to be filled with a highly competent and experienced leader with the necessary qualifications - no offense to Joe Six-Pack or his buddies.

Yeah, I'm ticked off. Sarah Palin is an idiot – we have suffered enough from idiocy over the last 8 years and the thought of more idiots in government is absolutely nauseating, not to mention reckless and dangerous. Joe Six Pack American??? God, somebody get me a barf bag. I absolutely think Sarah Palin has the self-centered ambition for the VP slot, but I think it's been made abundantly clear that she doesn't have the smarts for it. Intelligence matters people – it's not to be feared or scorned. Since when did being a thoughtful, intelligent, educated person become something to be sneered upon?? What is wrong with this country? Do we really want to reward abject intellectual vacancy with one of the most powerful positions in the world??? No way. Ignorance goes hand in hand with darkness, hate and misery.

Hmmm...I don't even have $20,000 in the stock market to lose (or a tanning bed in my house for that matter). Does that make me even more Joe six-pack American?

    CNN please post me

PS- but I guess since i can name a few supreme court cases, I'm an "elitist"!

  15. Mr. New York City

I am completely and utterly shocked. I don't know what to even say anymore about this whole scenario. The fact that supporters of McCain/Palin are just allergic to the truth and the spin is enought to make you really want to run for cover.

I can see it coming: SARAHGATE!

The Republicans will "find out" that Mrs. Palin was actually "planted" by the DNC to make McCain look stupid – as if that was needed...

I'm sorry but did she just proudly proclaim herself to be a quote "joe six pack american?" Really? and then she goes on to say she lost 20,000 in one week? does "joe six-pack" even have a 401K? Do we need "joe-six pack" filling the second highest position in our nation's government?? What does this term even mean really, does she mean uneducated, poor, drinks six-packs joe? Everyday i read the news she never ceases to amazes me or rather frighten me. The fact that we are even talking about this women amazes me.

  22. McCain is too old

I'm thinking, Geez, if Palin is what a normal America represents, it's time to think about relocating!

I dont have any money in stocks neither does anyone i know. I think thats more normal than her freak of a life. How can you be a normal american and be a vice presidential candidate? HMMMMMMMMMMM....this blows my mind. A joe 6 pack american wouldnt try and regulate what you learn in school and would let you choose how you live your life.

Obama is present – sneaking into office...

Still don't think Obama is going to get elected but this is too close and I think many people with convictions and a half a care for our future are going to pay attention now and you're going to see.....

some UGLY but VERY TRUE campaign ads in the next few weeks.

Many commentors here in CNN won't be pleased but people need to know who this joker really is... This is an election for President!!! Not school board!

If I were selected in an ramshackle interview process to work on something I have no clue about, I will be in big trouble, will cause my employer a bunch of headaches and will be fired in all likelihood.

When the job is the VP of the USA, if clueless Sarah gets in,
    God help the USA!
