Palin: I'm a 'Joe-six pack American'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/09/30/art.palinchat0930.ap.jpg caption="Gov. Palin met with fellow mothers of U.S. soldiers while campaigning in Philadelphia Sunday."]
SEDONA, Arizona (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Tuesday called herself a “Joe-six pack American” and said that her family has lost $20,000 in the stock market because of the financial meltdown on Wall Street.

Palin made the comments in a radio interview with conservative talker Hugh Hewitt while taking a break from debate prep at John McCain’s ranch in Sedona.

“I know what Americans are going through there,” Palin said on the radio show. “And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably $20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit.

“I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are.’”

Earlier: Palin takes a dig at Biden's age?

Hewitt asked Palin her reaction to the “extreme hostility” that she has faced from liberals.

“Oh, I think they’re just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe six-pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

Seriously, Mark, bring it? What do you mean by "Not some smooth talking lawyer with Muslim connections,,,,"? Is this a barefaced admission that the Republican platform is based on bigotry? And how the heck did this "Sic-pack Joe" thing suddenly turn her from and idiot into a hero?

Average Joe Six-pack and THAT's who we want to run the country? I have news for Governor Palin, the "average Joe Six-Pack" wasn't runner-up for Miss Alaska. There's alot of hormone therapy and surgery involved that most of us guys have no desire to face. There's also the little fact that unlike Governor Palin, us "average" guys have come to grips with the fact that WE'RE not qualified to run the country. Mrs. Palin needs to face that fact too.

Completely agree with you Palin! Enough of this political baby making business. I like to see someone like Palin who, unlike Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton (even John McCain) and the rest of the elite Washington type, twenty years ago was wondering how she was going to make ends meet, working two jobs and thinking about how to make Alaska a better place for her family, and people just like her. I thought our government is suppose to represent the people. Well, it seems our democracy has turned itself into a monarchy. You are born with the name, riches and support from high powered political parents, or you marry into it. No one in congress can relate to any american. Every election its the same group of people who have been planning for this moment there entire life. They are programmed well and hard wired. Its nice to see someone like Palin, who might flub on interviews and say "awesome" and "cool" in response to serious issues. Even Barack Obama, as young as he is has been preparing for this moment since he was 6 (watch his 10 min. video he presented at the DNC). You have my vote Palin.

Mark said: "Not some smooth talking lawyer with Muslim connections,"

That's the problem with some of the American, too narrow minded & racist. What's the problem with Moslem? Moslem is also a religion, same as other religions such as Christian, Catholic, Budhist & Hindu. Wake up America!! You're connected to the Global World that has different kinds of religions!!!

Things that I don't want to see "Joe Six Pack" doing:

    1) Performing brain surgery on someone.

    2) Figuring out a way out of a world crisis....

    3) University Professor.....

To all the above commenters who say they don't want an average Joe six pack because that is what you had with George Bush and you see how that turned out - then why are you so enamored with a B. Obama who is running on the identical platform of Bush of bringing hope and change and a bipartisan atmoshpere to Washington and who himself said he was not qualified to run for President when asked 3 years ago about being on the national ticket in 08? Seems we know how hope change and bipartisan effort worked out too, don't we.

For all of you who don't believe Sarah Palin's inexperience is a liability, I want some of what you are smoking. Honestly, the lady does not have a clue. Even though I'd never vote for him, I think John McCain would have been a very capable president. I just don't understand what was going through his head when he selected a running mate that can't handle a simple non-scripted interview without sounding like a complete idiot. I'm sorry I want leaders who can at least think for themselves without being told what to sat and when to say it. If McCain wanted a woman running mate, why didn't he chose someone more qualified like Olympia Snowe or Kay Bailey Hutchenson. I think everyone of you who make these comments about how qualified Sarah Palin is really needs to take time out and look objectively at the running mate of the oldest candidate ever running for president. Do you really and truly feel comfortable with an individual running the most powerful nation world who cannot put two sentences together without the help of a speech writer. This is serious stuff people, we are not voting for the king and queen of the prom. Maybe the way we choose our leaders so friviously is what is wrong with our country today. Hopefully we will wake up before it is too late.

That is one reason she is loved. She is an everyday person, No phoney pretense. She is smart and she knows that people are sick of phonies so what you see is what you got.
GOOD LUCK SARAH PALIN. Your are badly needed to help bring the big shots back down to earth and reality. And I think you are tough and smart enough to handle that Pelosi if she is lucky enough to have enough stupid people to reelect her.

I'm sorry, we don't need joe six-pack in the presidency. We've had 8 years of that already and look where it has gotten us. What we do need are intelligent, curious, well-educated and open-minded leaders who are willing to understand the economics and international context of the world we live in. Joe six pack needs to be represented and understood by our elected leaders, but doesn't and shouldn't be expected to understand the issues at the level needed to run the country and represent us to the world!! I personally have quite a bit more education & international exposure than Gov. Palin and yet I would never presume to take on that kind of responsibility. I don't think she knows what she doesn't know...

Sorry but this woman is a JOKE... All of you will have to look in the mirror forever... Remember, when you tell people you believe she is ready, they will never forget it and will use that to base your judgement on. I cant wait to see these Republicans have to hide from their words in support of her.You thought the Gibson interview was bad!!! WOW...The Couric interviews are down right terrifying. Shame on you all...and you know what it is deep down...You cant hide from the face in the mirror.

I could never vote for John McCain after he showed such poor judgment in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate. That decision showed his complete lack of concern for our great country. I've completly lost all respect I had for him.

This woman has no clue! If you were a Hillary supporter now supporting this woman, be smart and compare and contrast what she stands for with Hillary's. I'm sure doing research would give you the brain cells that Palin so obviously lacks!
