McCain: Obama lead growing because 'life isn’t fair'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/02/art.mccain.points.jpg caption="Sen. McCain said Thursday Barack Obama is leading in the polls because 'life isn't fair'."]
(CNN) - John McCain said jokingly Thursday that Barack Obama’s poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink "because life isn’t fair.”

“He certainly did nothing for the first few days,” McCain told Fox News Thursday. "I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to Washington, met with the House folks and got on the phone, and also had face-to-face meetings.”

New CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation polls of several key battleground states released Wednesday found Obama has made gains across the board – either taking statistically significant leads, or erasing McCain advantages – over the past few weeks. Since the financial crisis began in mid-September, Obama has taken and held a lead over McCain in the national CNN poll of polls.

Watch: Is the bailout a band-aid?

But the Republican nominee said the economic anxiety-fueled poll swing was likely a blip. “Well first of all, you know very well that these are temporary things," he said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. "The focus was on the fiscal crisis we were facing. I understand that. I understand there are going to be ups and downs in campaigns. I'm happy where I am...

“I'm the underdog. I love being the underdog.... We're going to be up late on election night,” he said.

Running mate Sarah Palin is also facing an unfair disadvantage as she heads into the debate tonight, McCain told Fox. “Frankly, I wish they had picked a moderator that isn’t writing a book favorable to Barack Obama. Let’s face it,” he said. “But I have to have to have confidence that Gwen Ifill will handle this as the professional journalist that she is… Life isn’t fair, as I mentioned earlier in the program.”

PBS journalist Gwen Ifill, the moderator of Thursday’s vice presidential debate, is writing a book about Barack Obama and a new generation of black leaders that is slated to be released in January 2009.

I can't believe the whining coming out of the McCain campaign about Ifill.

They knew she was writing this book at least two weeks before they agreed to have her as a moderator. At least they should have since it was common knowledge. But maybe the same person vetted Ifill as vetted Palin. We know how well that went, don't we?

But the excuses and whining are for one reason only. They're giving themselves an escape clause should Palin prove to be an unmitigated disaster.

Oh, boohoo McCain. Grow up. Obama has the lead because people are finally beginning to realise how much of a WHINER/SORE LOSER you are.

Do you want an award for 'suspending' your campaign?!

  13. Hey McCain- Thanks but no thanks

Does this sound like sounding a Presidential candidate should be saying???

He has proven over and over than he's not Presidential or smart!

We alreayd have a dimwit in the White House, do americans really want a replay?

So McCain is saying that the folling questions that Katie asked her were unfair, sexist, gotcha journalism? Really? It sounds like any question that any one asks this governor is a ploy or unfair– what kind of crap is that- does he really think we're that stupid?

The comments come after Palin has faced criticism for her performance during recent interviews with Katie Couric. In the two separate interviews, Palin had trouble defending McCain's record on regulation issues, discussing the economic bailout, defining her foreign policy credentials, naming her preferred sources of news, and naming a Supreme Court case she disagrees with.

Is this a joke? McCain you are so lame. You didn't pull your ads. You didn't suspend your campaign. You pulled a political stunt and add more drama to already overly dramatized event.

Go back to Arizona. They have a bed waiting for you at Shady Pines.

McCain is right. Life ISN'T fair. For example, our great country had to suffer the presidency of George W. Bush for 8 years. THAT wasn't and isn't fair.

    OBAMA in 08!

McCain's sinking ship shown in the polls has nothing to do with life being fair or not.....it has everything to do with the fact that the American people have taken the blinders off and are actually looking at policy/character differences between McCain and Obama. America is growing up and the trend clearly shows that we are sick and tired of the old politics that have nearly destroyed this great country.

Obama has showed leadership throughout this process and will continue when he is elected the next POTUS.

McCain can go home and cry on his over-fluffed pillow. Its over buddy....you lost because you are incapable of changing the course of this country.

Mccain says that people support Barack because "life isn't fair"? What the? That doesn't even begin to make sense! His answers becoming as difficult to comprehend as Palin's. And doesn't it take more time to arrange to take down ads then to just let them run as you are working on the bailout? Furthermore, scores of his campaign offices around the country were still working fervently even as his campaign was 'suspended'. It was such a joke to say it was suspended. I'd like to hear of one thing that didn't happen as a result of that suspension.

THat is the last straw for me. I gave McCain the benefit of being senile, old, tired, etc. for some of his mistakes lately, but now I realize he is just a bald face liar!!!! The fact that the moderator is writing a book about Obama has been public knowledge since JUNE!!!! and he now wants to act all surprised about it. Either he did know and is a liar, or he did not know, which means he cannot use Google. Either way, it shows what a lame person he is. He is lost my respect and my vote.

What media moderator do they want? Sean Hannity? Why can't she write a book about race and politics? It is important. If she wrote a book looking at age and politics, would McCain like her more? This is so stupid. They are grasping at straws.

She is a good journalist and is known for being fair and because she is black people are trying to stir the racial pot. Thats all this is. Here come the cultural attacks everyone!!!
